40yrs ago my dad traveled to Australia for work as an engineer. He brought back to me a pair of black Opal earrings. I still have mine & my mother’s pair. This video reminds me I need to wear them more often
They are great journeys are they not, almost meditative and educational at the same time with abundant passion. I'm sitting in the sun, sunbathing between 8 & 9 am, Traditional Chinese Medicines brew in hand absorbing the suns glorious rays concurrently absorbing this beautiful journey. Peace to all you cool cats
My 1st black opal was seen when I was 16 visiting my aunt in Cleveland OH. She took me to a museum and it was pure red and black! it was huge and rough! from then on red fire in black! I do have a small one! thank you Justin for what you do! I have 3 from you!
Im a gemhead. I enjoyed watching your artistry on the raw stone. Opal has always been my favorite. I wear a sharp opal pendent every day. I'll keep watching ✌️
I'm with you, Justin. I love the blues and greens. They seem to have so much depth to them. I know that everyone loves the red and orange, but the blues and greens look like a deep, mysterious ocean. My favorite pattern might be a little boring too. I really like chaff and pinfire.
You are like the bob ross of the gem world , so soothing to watch. Bob ross paintings look rough in the beginning and turn out masterpieces. Great fun to watch.
This is truly an example of one man's trash is another man's treasure. You were commenting on how not every stone is a top-level gem. Personally, this is one of the prettiest stones I think I've seen you cut, in the 20th or 30 videos I've watched. That color of deep blue purple is my absolute favorite. And the way it plays through the potch, I find absolutely stunning.
Thanks again, Justin. I always enjoy watching and learning. Not a record setting stone but it has it's own beauty. Looking forward to your next one. Keep Smiling and Stay Grateful
I no longer have favourites. Opals are like horses. A good horse is never a " bad" colour!! LOL. Hi all at BOD and viewers. Greetings from Victoria, Australia.
@blackopaldirect yeah. Still getting over broken bits. Tell Saxon that he's young, but DO NOT do it again. I have busted a lot. It loses it's novelty, when you do stupid at 60. It takes way longer to get your bones together enough for another try. I just thought that I would fix pipe to tank. I fell off. Too scared to do anything. I could feel my feet. I didn't get help. I didn't have my phone with me. Yes. I'm bulletproof. Until, I was not. Now just getting opal stuff together. You lot have always been wonderful to me. Nice to have friends.
Greetings from Czech Republic (central Europe) 🙂 my favourite colour generally is blue, and in your opals I really love this deep blue and purple. But it is closely followed by all the blue green gems you show us. Thank you for your videos, they are always nice and gentle and I like to watch them. Especially now, as I fight cancer (I am 42 and this is second time I have a breast cancer, after 15 years), it always brings smile to my face and warms my heart to see the beauty born from the rough stone. And smiles are the best cure, thank you for that, Justin ♥️
All opals are beautiful. I really loved the way the color hid and flashed on that stone. Another beauty Justin 😊 I really love the crystal opals. I like the way the light passes through them.
Diamonds just look like shattered glass. People are attracted to them because of the value and the status they bring. If the value was the other way round, everyone would have opal engagement rings.
@@Tweed58 black opal is more valuable than diamonds. And much more rare. Diamonds value has just plummeted bc of Lab brown diamonds. Opal doesn’t have the issue.

Thank you Justin for sharing this with me ! I love all Opals ! This Opal really stunned me a little as I thought that with brightness around the edges that it would really pop out in color ! It's still a beautiful Opal !
Oh that’s a cool colour opal! My fav is a black opal with a mix of colours. My nan had a white/milky opal ring and it was hideous but after seeing some newer styles of opal rings, I’ve fallen back in love with them.
I can't help but love a good multi-color opal, especially with some pigeon blood red, but I love all opals. They're all so unique, every time I look at one I say, "wow, that's beautiful". I could get lost for days just looking into one opal.
I love a stone to have all colours albeit with red and purple being the dominant colours especially with a nice high dome! The volcanic opal that you cut awhile ago was to myself an absolutely beautiful stone. Have a ripper Justin!
I took a gem polishing class in college! I love watching you do this! My opals are from an opal mine in southeastern Idaho! I made a beautiful green and blue stone into a necklace for my mom. If I could I’d post a photo

Opals are nature's treasures, and that dark opal is beautiful in its own way! My absolute favorites are the crystal opals with colors of the rainbow 🌈 in them! Greetings to you all at BOD! 👋♥️💎👍
That opal is stunning, there’s something quite magical about the way the colour appears. it’s like a deep, dark pool of water, the shimmer of colour, the shimmer of mystery.
Hi Justin. Greetings from South Africa. My favorite colours are red, orange and yellow. The blue and green are also spectacular. Great video. Kind regards to all
You have single handedly got me into opals. Ive always loved gems of all kinds but opals are now my favorite. I've learned so much from your videos and ive purchased my first lap grinder and hopefully soon my first cabbing machine. Keep uo the good work. Your work is awesome

My favorite colors are the light colored ones. The royal blue and purple is pretty phenomenal though. It would be gorgeous combined with amethysts or saphires.❤😮😊
Those black opals that are blue+purple and not knock-your-eye-out bright make good man's rings, IMO. But that one is so large it would take a giant to wear it. Or a lovely woman's pendant - maybe a gypsy cabochon setting in yellow gold? Excellent job, Justin!
With the right setting an balancing of the gemstone gallery it would be a fantastic ring even at the size of the cut thatJustin did. Fabulous index ring 💍

Fire Agate is, to my eye, a bit more fussy but the general principles seem to carry over. My mother's birthstone is opal and I have a couple of Australian white rough pieces.
