      Varheim singapore malaysia and brunei are among richest countries in this region, indonesia? eh last time i checked their total gdp and gdp percapita both ppp and nomial are higher than vietnam, laos, cambodia and myanmar. And the last three countries I mentioned are among poorest countries on earth.

    • @Ucuz_
      @Ucuz_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +135

      Varheim singapore, malaysia, indonesia, brunei and Philippines are part of malay archipelago, nusantara, or maritime SEA. And most of them are richer than those on the mainland SEA, or atleast not the on the bottom list of poorest countries like cambodia, myanmar and laos. Thailand? well same goes for Ethiopia, they are one of a few African countries who can resist European colonialist, but is Ethiopia better than Philippines? clearly not.

    As a Thai, I really wish we didn’t have to fight 🇱🇦🇻🇳 during the Cold War.
    Laos? In cultural aspect, the closest one to Thailand; so close that we can speak our own languages and understand each other. Vietnam? How can you not root for this country that singlehandedly fought the French, U.S., and China; like a big brother of Indochina.. and I also have met some cool Vietnamese people in my lifetime - the most based Asians. But well... politics of Cold War greatly divided us (our government was scared shitless of Communism) and as for nowadays, toxic nationalists’ comments always stir hate.

      Khmer empire is big. We were here in 8th century before thailand. So now I see how thailand adapted to our culture. Thailand started in 12th century..khmer Empire fall in the 15th century only because of war. Changed it to cambodia but people still call themselves khmer. We are still here and the temples are still here. We are strong people. We had war with khmer Rouge 1975 killing over 2 million people, still khmer live on with cultural and we still fighting to keep it alive. Now is that call "Weak"? I don't think so.

      @zizzzazzle8975 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yes, it's quite sad... I am part Cham myself. I dont think Champa fared well because the Chams were outsiders, who were not native to mainland southeast asia. The primary native/indigenous groups are the Vietnamese and Khmer. They already lived there and were the original inhabitants of mainland Southeast Asia, along with several other smaller tribes/civilizations scattered throughout. The kingdoms that made up modern day Burma, Laos, and Thailand were primarily composed of migrants from Southern China, so they are not native either. But since the Chams arrived by way of the ocean, I feel like they were at a huge disadvantage in comparison to the people who arrived via land....

    Seeing this reminds me of some of the maps I found in a box in the library of my school. The teacher who owned them was retiring, and didn't have a place for them, so she was giving them away. One of the maps was from 1951 and labeled Vietnam as "Indochina Vietnam" since it was before it split into North and South Vietnam. It also only had one Korea on it and also had countries like Tibet and French Africa. It was pretty cool. I still have it now.

      We actually dont know (or dont know so much) about our crimes and errors for history in classes, schools. We just know about the struggle for independence and freedom for vietnam over 2000 years, and freed Cambodian from polpot genocide... Until now the internet is expanding.
      Many vietnamese who dont know the true, then they just disappointing for Cambodia that their fathers who shed blood too much in Cambodia to win power for the people from the hands of Pol pot. The international community also objected to Vietnam's intervention with Cambodia's pol pot, even until now!
      Maybe i will be cursed by someone Vietnamese, but i understand them, like Chinese also dont know too much the true for their history in vietnam thousands years. When I interact with them, I feel them very kind and gentle, unlike Vietnamese people who often think negatively about them for Chinese invasions in vietnam over 2000 years. just china's "political ambitions". Maybe someone will curse me: Khmer Empire invaded vietnam 5 times in the past, why u should sorry them?; but finally i realize we still have sins.
      We have been through a lot of war and understand exactly the Price of Peace. Today we always hope to contribute to building a peaceful world, although many countries always think badly of us by communism. But we are contributing to the maintenance of peace in Africa;
      🇻🇳👉many people always remember vn war and anti vn, but 2019 we stand out and organized "DPRK - USA Hanoi submit Vietnam" between Mr.Trump and Mr.Kim Jong-un, we had invested and hoped it could be successful so much for Peace, but not.
      Im so sorry for Cambodia! 🙏 🇰🇭🇱🇦

    The History of South East Asia/Indochina summarised so you can remember it:
    300 BCE: The Northern Vietnamese Kingdom first appears as Nam Viet
    200-100 BCE: The Kingdom expands but ultimately gets conquered by the Chinese Empire. The Burmese City States and the Cambodian/Khmer Kingdom of Funan first appear.
    100 BCE - 400: Funan would expand on the South Coast, the Southern Vietnamese Champa Kingdom first appears (which almost completely survives until the 1800s)
    400-600: The Thai Kingdom of Lavo gains independence from Funan.
    600-800: The Funan vassal of Chenla conquers the former and expands heavily, but splits in Land and Water Chenla at ~700. The Javanese colonize parts of Indochina, which splits apart Lavo.
    800-1000: The Khmer Empire, gaining independence from the Javanese, conquers the Chenlas and Lavo. The Chinese Dali Kingdom is established in the North. The Dai Viet Kingdom of North Vietnam finally gains independence from the Chinese.
    1000-1200: The Burmese city of Pagan rises as the Pagan Empire. Indochina is mostly filled with states by this point. (Pagan, Dali, Dai Viet, Champa, Khmer Empire and small states like Haripunchai)
    1200s: The Thai gain independence from the Khmer as Sukothai. The Mongol conquests cause the splitting of Pagan in small states.
    1300-1500: The Sukothai get conquered by the Ayutthaya Kingdom, the Lan Xang Kingdom of Laos arises and the Khmer Empire transforms into the now small Kingdom of Cambodia.
    1500-1700: The Toungoo Empire in Burma conquers much of Indo-China, but is only able to keep Burma. Lan Xang splits into three. Dai Viet conquers Champa to the South.
    1700s: The Konbaung Dinasty takes over Toungoo and the Rattanakosin Kingdom (or Siam), suceeding Ayutthaya, conquers the remainders of Laos/Lan Xang.
    1800s: While the Brits take over Burma, the French establish French Indochina (Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia). Only Siam/Thailand can stay independent.
    1900s: After Japan takes Indochina during WW2, the colonies gain independence. And after communist North Vietnam wins over the South, we have the modern states of Myanmar/Burma, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

      the Khmer-Mon and Austronesian people once were very close together in relation, civilazation influenced and maritime trade accross the sea.
      The Vat Kamnou prehistory site gave the most credibility for us about these two subgroup people. The DNA shown the Austronesian and Khmer-Mon People shared very close DNA from the 1rst millennium BC to 1rst AD. I believed this because Austronesian people were the most expert seafarer alongside the SEA coastline.
      For the Tai Kradai actually, it's hard to find the odest evidence. Because Tai Kradai date back only between 6th - 7th and the odest prehistory of Tai Kradai in SEA is found in Tham Lod cave. But the DNA is still mixed with the Khmer Mon people, different from the Ban Chiang prehistory site was very close to Khmer-Mon people.

      North Vietnam had alot of Chinese influence and mixed with the Chinese who came down to settle through out the years. South Vietnamese are champs who got conquered and assimilated into the North. But the South historically did alot of maritime trading with the Chinese Merchants and were mostly neutral in many conflicts and peaceful people. They originally were more related to the Cambodians until North Vietnam conquered them.

    Somebody doesn't know much about Vietnam here.
    Daiviet conquered Champa in 1492 not 1528.
    Between 1680 and 1708, there was a Kingdom of Hatien, a Chinese rump state founded by refugees from the Manchurian conquest. Mo Jiu, the king of Ha Tien later pledged his allegiance to the Nguyen lord in 1708 thus becoming a part of Daiviet
    Saigon was the capital of Daiviet from 1790 to 1801. In the video, it was still Cambodian. By late 1700s, most of the Mekong delta river was under Annamese administration already. However, the Siamese and Cambodian only recognised the region as Annamese in 1845 peace treaty.
    The kingdom of Cambodia was under joint overlordship by both Dainam and Siam during the period of 70 years prior to the arrival of the French. It was written in the peace treaty of 1845.

      I know but you made quite a lot of mistakes in this video. Another thing is that according to your video, the Siamese had both Laos and Cambodia under its direct control which was not true. Both Laos and Cambodia were vassals of the Siamese king very much like the kingdom of Champa after the Daiviet conquest in 1492. So it is not correct to make them part of Rattanakosin because they still had their kings on the throne.
      Last but not least, nobody controlled the highland between Vietnam and Cambodia hence the Vietnamese even built a 200 miles wall to secure its border with the tribes. It was the local who ruled the land until Vietnamese colonisation in 1900s. So yea, another place that is not Rattanakosin.

      Existence of Assam is older than Manipur Kingdom. Ahom dynasty was a continuation of Assam history after the fall of Varman Dynasty under whose rule Assam was called Kamarupa. The Ahoms were Tai people who migrated to Assam from South China in the 11th century. Ahoms already had their own language and religion similar to the Thais of Thailand. Once the Ahoms formed their kingdom in present day Assam by uniting all the ethnic groups, they too accepted Hinduism as their court religion and Assamese as their court language. So you see, the continuity of Assamese language, culture and Assam's very existence has been going on since the time when Assam was known as Kamarupa to mainland India in ancient times.

    There are some minor problems. The ancient kingdom in Kunming was established by Zhuang Qian in 277 BC. He was originally a general of the state of Chu. After Qianzhong County of the state of Chu was captured by the state of Qin, he established himself as the king there and established the state of Dian. The local is a branch of the ancient Pu people.
    Continue to the southwest, in today's Baoshan area, about the 3rd century BC, there is the ancient country of Ailao. Recorded in "Huayang Guozhi"
    The founding monarch of Ailao was Jiulong, who worshipped the dragon god. In its heyday, it was 3,000 miles from the east to the west and 4,600 miles from the north to the south (Han miles). It roughly ruled from Xishuangbanna in the south, Nujiang River in the west, Hengduan Mountains in the north, and Erhai Lake in the east.
