I saw some ichika nito haters on r/guitar circlejerk. I met ichika in Thailand once and I can tell that his playing is legit and not fake.

I found his music on "i miss you" and immediately fell in love. Underrated artist must rise!!

Illusory Sense is when I found his music. I had to share it. Those EPs are immaculate. His NAMM appearance really shows that he’s emotionally attached to what he plays at the time, and doesn’t concern himself with impressing others. Personally, I would have flexed a little. Lol

I completely agree with your statement on his NAMM show. You can feel the passion behind his playing and those EPs are seriously something else. His sound and style is truly unique

Whenever I feel like I am good enough in guitar I watch him and the other Modern Guitar legends to humble myself (and push myself even further)

Ichika also plays the harp! I found him because of Marcin. He’s definitely a top listen of mine on Spotify. Like the calm counterpart to Hiromi’s upbeat and creative jazz which I also love.

The other guitarist of ATS is the former member of a Japanese progcore band named Abstracts.Their debut album is incredibly good featuring Mark Holcomb and another Japanese guitarist Satoshi Oka who plays in a unique style with his whammy bar.

Abstracts is good!!! I'll have to go listen to that album

Ichika is something seriously special, especially as his stuff is, regardless of technicality, always so heavily melody focused. That can really set him apart from other modern players
Theres just something different about his music, thats just a step above the rest for me. Songs like ‘orb’, ‘awakening’ are just on a different level

I just wanna say, before I was recommended "i miss you" by ichika nito, I felt that electric guitars were this very "noisy" instrument and refused to ever want to play it. However, watching that 30s clip simply changed my entire perception of electric guitar and guitar as a whole. It inspired me to create music the same as him.

Amazing next level player! 👏 I would also suggest checking out the legendary Stanley Jordan who was using his pianistic "touch technique" back in the 80's. His versions of Stairway To Heaven, Elenor Rigby, and Lady In My Life are epic!

Ichika is one of the pioneers of the..polyphonic guitar movement(or piano style)....certainly instantly recognisable for his music and style(and thats a rarity for guitarists).if i could choose to be one guitarist i would still wanna. be Guthrie Govan for that genious on the spot improvisonal god level skills but if the task is one guitar,no band impress me then ichika has no competition.....

I love your videos! I really don't know how guitar can evolve any further than how these players have done it ... Also fyi Ichika's name is better pronounced if you don't put the stress on the middle syllable, and instead make the the first syllable the most prominent. So it's pronounced "Each-kah" (forgot to mention, the "i" sound in "chi" is mostly silent). In comparison, you (and many westerners) automatically stress the middle syllable of japanese names, which is actually not common in japanese names :)

I greatly appreciate your work. I'm assuming you've heard of Stanley Jordan, another guitarist who approaches the instrument like a piano. I thought of him when I first saw Ichika.

I play and listen to more Americana/classic Rock style guitar (thru to "modern" guitarists like Jack White) but I'll gladly accept this style. I don't care for the Tosin Abasi style "math rock" stuff, but this uber clean piano guitar is great

I saw some asian ''kid", i think Japanese
He added more drumming type beats than what i am seeing here.
