  • Should Jakob Ingebrigtsen SHOULD NOT Transition to the 5km (yet). Jakob Ingebrigtsen has lost his last 3 major championships in the WC 2022 and 2023 and most recently the 2024 Paris Olympic Final. Yet he has conversely won his last 3 major championships in the 5000m followed by a dominant 3000m world record prompting many to suggest that he should move up to the 5km distance from the 1500m. In this video, I argue that SHOULD NOT Transition to the 5km (yet).

    Running 3:28.24 and not even medalling is ridiculous. El G only went sub-3:30 once in a championship final. But in his era, 3:30-3:35 was good enough for medalling (El G even got pacemaking help from fellow countrymen in three major final). The level of competition is unreal now.

    Adam Jansen,I think you have to research what you are posting much better,in all of your comments here you are commenting as if the three who was better than Jacob in Paris,have a better kick than him,and that you are declaring as it was something as a law of nature.Have you really had a look at some of their races the last years,I have and, I can tell you Jacob has a kick that is as least as good as the other guys kicks,and may be even better.Try to have a look at some of their races,the races they has run against each others,as well as other races.I think that most of his problem in Paris,came a results of his missing 4 months of his winter running mileage,he had to do alternative training,so may be he lost a bit of his feeling for how fast he was running,his first lap was at the time of 54,9 compared to 55,00 for the first lap for the world record.When Jacob took a look at the great screen at the stadium,he got a shock,it was unintentionally the opening pace,he did not go out in that pace,to get the world record or run away from the other from the start.After the first lap,he tried to calm down a bit without it being so much registered in the pace.After a while he saw that he got a couple of meters,and then got too eager,and once more speeded up a bit,so now it was to late he could only try to see how long he could run at that pace,he eventually met the wall,run out of gas,and you could clearly see he more or less stopped,not because the other kicked so well,it only looked so,because he nearly stopped.Hocker had 13,00 in his last 100 m,the same as Nguse,Kerr had 13,2,while Jacob had for him a very slow pace at 13,8.So if Jacob had done it in his ususual way,waited till it was 600 left,and then gradually speeded up,or if he just had opened at a pace at maybe 1-2 second slower,he would not had met the wall,and then I think he never would have been outkicked.He frontrun all the distance,and become number 4,and still managed to run faster than his own old Olympic Record.

      @@frankjohansen9364 if it was just the Olympics I would agree that it’s too small a sample size to go off. But he lost the Zurich diamond league and 2022 and 2023 world champs in the same way. His last 4 losses in the 1500m come through being sit and kicked on in the final stretch, and he has a poor 800m time relative to his 1500m time. I don’t believe that’s a coincidence and to me it demonstrates he does not have genetic speed like hocker and Kerr do. Whenever he finishes well, it is normally due to running a slower pace that means he has loads of energy near the end or it’s a longer kick over the final 600m.

      @@AdamJansen786 You say that Jacob lost the Zürich Diamond League this year,he became number two,he lost for Nguse,but all around Jacob, told him not to compete in Zürich,because he had an infection only some days before,he was not fully restored,but he loves to compete,and he still managed to beat Hocker and Kerr.And Hocker he beat with 2 second in the Lausanne Diamond League.Only a week after the race in Zürich, Jacob was maybe fully restored,and managed to set a New World Record at the 3k in Silesia in Poland.A record which has been unbreakable for 28 years,and that at a distance ,which all the great athletes have tried to beat.Now Jacob beat it with 3 second and ran at a time at 7,17,55.In 2022 Jacob was beaten at the world Championsship due to as he said himself,bad tactic.In 2023 in the World Championsship in Budapest,he lost to Kerr,but that without any great kick by none of them.But Jacob was not 100%in that final,he may be even had a little fever,because that he had a couple of days later when he still manage to win against Kathir,who later was suspended because he three times did not show up when the controllers should test him,and he beat Kathir by running the last lap in the 5k at 52,45.He has a slow record at the 800 m,and that distance he has not run for years,because he don't like that distance.I think I willl come back and give more information with times and races to illustrate my points,I will come back later this evening.

    This video makes no sense. First off, the idea that he doesn’t have the kick of hocker or kerr is false. He has closed as fast as them in other races. Him being “outkicked” in paris was him really just slowing down due to having no energy left from leading it. Nobody else was running 3:28 from the front that day other than him. Secondly, nobody has repeated as a 1500m in the 21st century since El Guerrouj (Kiprop was a doper). It is insanely hard to win two or even three times in a row.
    It’s also disingenuous to Jakob to say that he has “lost” three times when he still has the best record over championships than any other 1500m runner today. 1st 2nd 2nd 4th is better than Kerr’s 3rd 5th 1st 2nd. Lastly, Jakob just has a piss-poor strategy honestly. In Eugene, his first 700 was literally run in lane 2. He probably ran an extra 15 meters in distance in that race so it was no surprise that Wightman who ran smart and tucked in, outlasted him. Budapest he was sick and really had no other way out. Paris, he led from the gun and had way too fast of an opening. His best strategy would have been to start off slow and continually accelerate until the end. By the final 100 he was toast from leading and going out too fast. Don’t call these excuses these are straight up facts.

    • @AdamJansen786
      @AdamJansen786  8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@beeloop156 I think it’s pretty undisputed that hocker and Kerr have a natural speed that Jakob doesn’t. There’s a reason he doesn’t do or like the 800m and whenever he kicks well, it’s normally after a slower race where he has more energy or just him winding things up over the last 600m compared to a 100m kick the others have. I agree his tactics were not great going into the WC but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he is consistently outsprinted in the final 100m and has a comparatively poor 800m to his 1500m. Tactics may play an important role but I think it’s unarguable his last kick is not great compared to his superb aerobic strength. Regardless, the issue remains that he performs badly in championship 1500m by his standards as both WC were seen has huge upsets and although I didn’t expect him to win the Olympics, coming 4th is terrible for his standards. Therefore a complete move to the 5km can still be a valid suggestion given his success in championships in that distance compared to the 15. That said, I do of course argue that he shouldn’t move yet.

    The problem with Ingebrigtsen is that in major 1500m championships he tries to run an insanely fast time all on his own, wasting energy on a good kick. His kick is actually really good in slighly slower races, this season the European championship and diamond league final where good examples where the final time was a little bit above 3:30 but he won both with ease. I think Ingebrigtsen needs to trust his kick more, but in world/olympic championships he cannot show it because he tires himself too much throughout the race.

Needless to say Wightman and Hocker ran great races. In Worlds 2023 he was under the weather. His responsibility but still. He would have one the 15 and the 5K by 5 meters (not one foot:-).
