Marathoners are the most impressive athletes. Sub 4:40 pace for 26 miles is crazy

It’s insane! They are basically repping many athletes 800m PB dozens of time over.

Great vid, but I gotta correct you cause you said it multiple time. Just cause you negative split or finish fast doesn’t mean you finished the race with a lot left in the tank. Elites make it look easy sometimes, but often they can feel exactly how much they can kick and time it perfectly.

I agree a negative split doesn’t necessarily mean you have more in the tank but I think it can be a good indicator. Especially when it was as aggressive as kiptum’s was, I believe he would have been able to run even faster if he ran more consistently. I think he played it more safe in his races and decided to see where he was at around 30km before really going for it.

Kipchoge's competitive spirit still seems somewhat dampened by the loss of his chief competitor who he [presumably] intended to pass on the metaphorical torch of Kenyan marathon greatness to this year or next, feeling satisfied that he'd left the title in good hands. Kiptum's tragic passing throws that whole beautiful succession scenario way out of wack

He is the biggest loss to us Kenyans and to all marathon fans. Most of us where waiting to see how he will perform since he was to improve his time. Kelvin kiptum was a rare talent.

Sub 2 is much more like a sub 9:5 or sub 3:35 mile lol

Pretty sure he ran 300kms a week which is astronomical think the goat of the marathon belong to him

@@GaryFlannighan-g8r 300km is insane. Although kiptums peak was faster than kipchoge, kipchoge still ranks as the goat to me as he had such consistency and longevity in his career. That being said, if Kiptum continued the marathon then I have no doubt he would become the GOAT.
