You need to hear Tarja Turunen mate- she was the first singer for Nightwish, and now she’s solo going by the name Tarja. Most amazing female vocalist I’ve ever seen live. With the possible exception of Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy. She scared the shit out of me...
I can't. I love Amy ... her voice just cuts right into your soul, it makes your heart ache. I watch so many of these videos and it never fails during a performance ...somewhere .. somehow, I end up with goosebumps on my arms!

2003 to now. It's not even close. She can sing rings around the old Amy now. Her voice is a touch deeper giving her a less airy sound if that makes sense. And live it's not even close. She light years better now. Still silly hot not matter the year thou:) But most singers to get a bit better as they age. Not all of course but most. Amy would be one of the biggest. The difference is night and day. I thought she was good back then. I'd love her to go back and do every song with the same arrangements with her voice now. It would be epic.
Amy could have never done Synthesis when she was young she didn't have the full voice she has now. The Live DvD is really something. She put old Amy to shame with her voices:)
I hadn't heard this in a while, brings back memories. In the early 2000's there was a period when I mostly just listened to Nightwish and Evanescence. Amy has a wonderful voice, I gotta go find some of the newer Evanescence. And you're lovely as always, Beth, great reaction!
Havent heard this song since it was popular. I think watching this gave me a new appreciation for it. Its such a well constructed rock song. Obviously amazing vocals from Amy. Very consistent and coherent vibe. Great buildup. Background vocals in the chorus are perfect. Rap break and bridge are both great. Also its crazy that most of the performance sounds almost identical to the studio recording. Making all the little deviations all the more juicy.
Every time I hear this song floods my mind with memories of my time in Iraq... We must have played this song a thousand times on repeat. Amy Lee is an absolutely phenomenal singer!!

each time she starts those cords on the piano right before it starts gives me goosebumps each time, its so beautiful hearing Amy Lee sing and play the piano
Just came back from seeing Amy Lee and Evanescence in concert and listening to those songs brought back such nostalgia it almost drove me to tears. I listened to this band in high school. She is also an incredible performer. Hearing her voice live is special.
Her voice is eerily haunting and magical and beautiful all at the same time it pulls on your emotions to the sound of her voice and music need I say more.
renewedx25 I have heard countless times that rock/metal singers use a lot of heavy instruments and “scream” instead of singing because they “cant” sing. Of course, I know it is bullshit, but people will find anything wrong with a genre they don’t care for to put it down.
Amy Lee is honestly my all time favorite Rock/Metal female vocalist! It would've been great if you reacted to a more recent version of this song off the Synthesis tour they went on with Lindsey Stirling, I saw it live and it was incredible! The Synthesis version is a lot more orchestral than this one.
When this song came out, it was the best thing I had heard in about five years and it was all over the airwaves where I was at. Evanescence came out of Little Rock, Arkansas and I was living in Memphis, Tennessee, about 150 miles east. Since Little Rock isn’t really a music Mecca and Memphis is, Evanescence made sure that they got tremendous airplay there, so we heard this song even more than the rest of the country. I think Amy is the second best female rock singer ever, and it took about 22 years for her to appear after the best singer first appeared. In 1979, Pat Benatar shocked everyone with her ability. She got a lot more pop oriented later in her career, but her first three albums established her as THE best rock frontwoman ever. I love Amy and, obviously, so do you. But, since you like strong female rock vocalists, why not check out the best. Now if others made suggestions, they might ask you to check out Heartbreaker, or Hit Me With Your Best Shot. I would even mention Hell is for Children (Her anti-child abuse song that is severely underrated) Promises in the Dark, Fire and Ice and Precious Time, and they would all be great for you to review. But…….I have two lesser known songs I wish you would check out, Don’t Let it Show, and Wuthering Heights. That last one, especially, you get to appreciate her ridiculous range. I think you might enjoy them.
The reason Amy Lee is easily my favourite singer is because she performs her music, she doesn't just sing and recite a song. You feel the music she wants you to feel, not just hear the notes you're told to listen to, she's a pleasure to hear. You should try their Synthesis album, it's incredible.

Major respect for her pitch control as well. Only way to really tell that she's not lip synching to the album version is the intro, and a few notes she clips a bit short. Otherwise it's perfect. There are plenty of good singers that have a hell of a time doing that on stage trying to match what you're hearing through a monitor while a couple zillion decibels of amplified noise crash all around you. But yeah, whether you like her style of music of not, she's really good.

Rewatching. I highly recomend listening to the most recent album Synthesis. Recorded live with a symphony in Germany. Her singing has gotten even more operatic. More powerful. She can truly belt out the notes.
Amy Lee definitely gives us something special with those beautifully haunting tones. First time I heard her voice, I was instantly in love with her sound.
