My uncle was really into Maiden and I became a fan when I was 12. His son is also a Maiden fan, but it wasn't until 12 years ago, when my cousin was 9 or 10, that he fully became a Maiden fan. It was at my uncle's party at the local football club when he turned 40 (apparently that's a big thing in Germany (he's not German, he's Dutch but built a house across the border)), and the DJ played some old skool hard rock and metal because he knew my uncle loved that stuff. My cousin really looked up to me as a kid (he was 8 or 9, I was 24 at the time, had long hair and everything), and we played air guitar and headbanged to Maiden together, that's when he truly became a Maiden fan. Up 'til this day he still tells me it's one of his fondest childhood memories: trying to sing along with Bruce and headbanging with his older cousin "who looked so cool with his long hair and his Maiden shirt" :D Kid's 21 or 22 now and he's exactly like his dad: metal all the way!

Bruce Dickinson has stated in the past on how animated he is on stage, how he never stands still, and he said he does it with the people in the furthest seats at the back of the venue in mind - he says they paid their ticket price like everyone else, and when the band look like wee ants from all the way at the back, you better be running and jumping around as much as possible to become larger than life as much as possible, and give them something to watch as if they were front row.

Maiden just has that IT factor. Before I discovered them, I would listen to a lot of metalcore and deathcore. Pretty much anything with scream style vocals (which also requires a lot of skill and talent to perform correctly) so my taste werre definitely "and heavier the better. I had heard of Iron Maiden before but always thought it was dad rock or something like that. Hi Beth. This was a great reaction. It was interesting to see what you thought of one of the greatest, most amazing singers in metal.Bruce Dickinson is an icon. Geoff Tate - He was in Queensryche.
@@KTF0 As an Iron Maiden fan myself, and the son of one of the biggest Maiden superfans in all of Canada (my dad), I can say that your statement is accurate. Maiden is just phenomenal at what they do. We take for granted that they can still create great albums and give us great live shows, and the shocking part is, THE BAND HAS BEEN AROUND FOR 43 YEARS! All of the band members are in their late 50's to mid 60's and they can still blow the roof off. They're that f***ing good. My all-time favorite band (only band that even comes close is Metallica), and my dad's all-time favorite band (only band that would even come close to making him question that is Led Zeppelin).
I love maiden and their music, but none of them ever struck me as a master of their instrument. They're more of a team with great synergy and teamwork as opposed to being a bunch of stellar players. Bruce is probably the best at his respectable instrument among them.
I enjoyed the vid. A word of advice for future Maiden videos you may do, it is generally considered polite to not interrupt when Mr. Murray is unleashing a killer solo.
Nice comment :-) Actually, I do not like interrupting the song at all, but then, there would be no point in watching someone just listening to a song :-)
My daughter and son love iron maiden, 9 and 12 respectively, we all agree we need more of this kind of music... and history, and thoughts, and skill.... And we all love your vids.
Had the distinct honor of meeting Maiden and some of the nicest guys you could ever meet. Dave took me aside for 30 minutes and we only talked about military aircraft which was so cool. Didn't want to be a fan boy but when he found out I flew he lit up. I guess his brother was in the RAF and we hit it off well. Thank you Beth. Maiden is so so so awesome and Bruce is remarkable.
I've had the honor of seeing Maiden perform live in person. It was in Edmonton during the Maiden England 2012 tour. One of the best days of my life. You're lucky to have actually met them face-to-face, but my parents are even luckier. They actually got to meet, I kid you not, the guy who Bruce replaced as the singer, PAUL DI'ANNO! He autographed my dad's copy of the first Iron Maiden album. My dad is a huge superfan of Maiden, probably the biggest superfan in all of Canada. That moment was a dream come true for him, and he now owns one of the most valuable copies of any Maiden album in the world because of that event.

What can I say - the girl wanted to rock!! 🤘🏼😝 I told Marty that story and he was highly amused!
Bruce Dickinson 10/10 -- That long note starting at 3:03 is so awesome, especially how he comes back to it after breaking for a breath, and then kicks it into a higher gear and really belts out that YEAHHHHH!!! at the end of it. At first it's like, "damn this long note is impressive," but the return to it and kicking it up a notch, and then that majestic "YEAAAAAAH!" is epic.
And by the way, he just happens to fly himself and the band around to tour dates in a 747 called.... Ed Force One. This bad has been apart of my life since 1980. Welcome to the club and thank you Uncle!
BTW, you mentioned the drummer, Clive Burr. He was the reason I became a musician. This was his last tour with Iron Maiden and a few years later he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. The band held several charity events to help with his incredible medical costs and stayed close to him to the end. He died in 2013 at just 56 years old. His playing on the first few albums was a HUGE reason for the band's success. Cheers.

funny how your rock and metal reaction videos have so many more views than other genres...we metalheads love hearing our idols praised and explained to us what exactly makes them so damn good :) I think it might be interesting to hear from you what part of the voice makes some singers be so instatnly recognizable. Ozzy, Brian Johnson, Robert Plant etc
Great analysis of his voice Beth. He is one of the main reasons they are my favorite band along with Devin Townsend. I love the Rock In Rio version of this song which is later in their career where he holds one of the notes well over 20 seconds. Check it out on your own time if you want.
that was actually a solid breakdown and reaction. i liked it. You clearly know what you're talking about and at some point couldn't help but bop your head along with the instrumental parts. good job, have a like.
What many people dont realize is that even with as amazing a voice as his, he has never recieved any formal voice training, but instead has natural voice control, and has a naturally operatic voice. I attended an Iron Maiden concert in 2012, and even though I was up in the nosebleed section, it felt as though he was standing 10 feet in front of me as he was singing. Absolutely amazing! Your uncle has great taste in music, Beth!
I'm 50 now and I spent a big part of my teenage years listening to Iron Maiden. They, especially Bruce, were my big idols and still are. It's quite funny that I still remember almost all lyrics from their four or five first albums even English is not my native language :)
You *really* should react to "Stargazer" by Rainbow. Greatest and most popular metal vocals ever, it will give you some serious chills. The singer, Ronnie James Dio, is regarded by Bruce Dickinson himself just as by all of us as *the* metal voice.
Wonderful analysis of Mr Dickinson's voice! Made me really happy to hear a formal breakdown of a great singer. I'm a big fan of your reactions cause you really know what you're talking about and you look at the singers for what they are, not just the style of music and what you're into. Good review of an awesome performance!

But, his voice was blown by 1987!
How he managed to get it back, I don't know.

On top of that the whole "number of the beast" name put me off because honestly, I hate edgy metal that relies on Satan for attention. But one day they came up on my suggestions on TH-cam and I decided to give a chance. The rest is history. To this day I'll play the Number of The Beast album in it's entirety. It's too damn good to not listen to it!
Hi Beth. This was a great reaction. It was interesting to see what you thought of one of the greatest, most amazing singers in metal.Bruce Dickinson is an icon. Here are a few other metal icons for you to check out:
Ronnie James Dio - He was in Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and he had a solo career.
Rob Halford - He was in Judas Priest and the band Fight.
Geoff Tate - He was in Queensryche.
Definitely Geoff Tate

Klaus Meine. We'll burn the sky (the Tokio tapes version).

Uh, yeah. It’s Maiden.
Ha, us Maiden fans almost take it for granted.
Duh!

😂😂😂

I can't let this go without commenting about the fact that he's one of the most athletic live performers ever, but despite running a half marathon every single night, STILL comes out of that cardio routine he does during the solos and breaks and comes back in with flawless pitch, range, and sustain, all without any help from fake vibrato, transposition, or autotune.
... And when he's done with that part, he proceeds to get in the cockpit and fly his own goddamn band to the next venue. Guy's a fucking machine.
And that "sturdiness" you are hearing is Steve Harris. A bass God.
Steve smyth I was thinking the same thing...that guy is the friggin anchor
Steve smyth Shes pretty clearly talking about the bass drum, and niko's signature doubles and triples. The bass cant make the drums sound better if the drum sounds like shit to begin with. Just check out how good the drums sound without bass on and justice for all...
@ also, it's 80% bass guitar with Maiden. Amazing drummers (both of them) but Harris is def the one who contributes the most to the amazing sound that they have.
all I could hear was how fucking loud the bass was mixed LOL
@ Nicko isnt in Maiden at this time. Thats Clive Burr who played the drums like a machine, whereas Nicko plays more flashy. I prefer Clives drive

The band held several charity events to help with his incredible medical costs and stayed close to him to the end. He died in 2013 at just 56 years old. His playing on the first few albums was a HUGE reason for the band's success. Cheers.
Think this is the "Beast On The Road" tour. With the seminal Maiden line up in my opinion.
