    I find it quite wholesome that you put those real life friendships at number 1. Sad how so many of them now have to miss their friends. R.I.P. Nichelle Nichols, Aaron Eisenberg and René Auberjonois.

    Mentioning Kirk and Spock without McCoy is sign of the generation gap. For those of us who grew up on TOS, they were an inseparable trio. Even with most of the movies highlighting Kirk and Spock specifically, there was always Spock and McCoy stubbornly refusing to admit that they cared for each other just as much. The ONE good thing that can be said about Star Trek 5 is that Shanter at least understood the friendship between the three of them.

    my favorite Dax & Sisko moment is when Dax is thinking about renewing a relationship with another trill from a past life, in direct opposition to what trill society deems acceptable. Dax goes to Sisko for advice and Sisko delivers the BEST line (IMO) that after Dax spends some time thinking about the consequences he says "that if you decide that this is what you really want I will back you all the way" That is friendship

      @@Chad_Billington I don't think Garak is gay or straight, he's Garak. He wouldn't put his feelings so categorically. But yes, in the sense that he is likely attracted to Bashir, he'd be gay, but I still think there's more to it than that; I don't see Garak as ever wanting to have intercourse with Bashir, rather he gets more out of his lunch dates and poking at Bashir's intellectual side. I think for Garak it would be much more complex and intense feelings than humans feel, directed through other mediums than we do

      @TashaJaeger ปีที่แล้ว

      @KristenK78 I think that Picard was Q's only real friend. Janeway maybe, but she liked him less. Picard was there for Q when he was dying. Q helped Picard by letting him know the borg were coming, by helping him see that his life was worth living (Tapestry), wanted picard when he was going to be punished, all the things a friend does. Picard was exasperated by him but I think that Q's final moments in Picard show how much they really meant to each other. YMMV.

    There are so many bromances that it actually can feel intimidating to go over them all. Riker and Worf, Boimler and Mariner, Una and La'an... So many duos and trios whose friendships made them better people overall.
    McCoy not being mentioned as part of the Kirk/Spock bromance was an oversight. And I should point out that Kirk was written to not seek relationships with female crewmates. Janice Rand, for instance, was certainly a love interest. However, the two kept their relationship on a professional level. TNG would have Picard start a romance with a woman who was part of his crew, but ended it when he realized he couldn't live with the idea of sending her on dangerous missions, potentially to her death. (Which is another reason I don't buy that he and Beverly actually got together, but whatever.) Long story short, Kirk didn't seek on-ship romance because of how messy it can get. Picard did and things always got messy.

    • @StockportJambo
      @StockportJambo ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Picard and Beverly got together after they stopped serving on the same ship. As you say, it got complicated when Picard had a relationship with anyone under his command. Even Riker and Troi didn't happen until after Deanna had been promoted to full Commander.

    I feel like there's a LOT of stretching going on to get Tuvok and Neelix and Odo and Quark on this list. Especially considering you left off Picard and Guinan and Trip and Reed.

    Rutherford and Tendi? I think you're misreading that one. They're both socially awkward and inexperienced when it comes to romantic relationships. The show is clearly setting them up to be a couple.

    • @teabeasley
      @teabeasley ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In fact, Becket and Biomler's relationship is the completely platonic one. The obvious joke between Rutherford and Tendi is that they're perfect for each other but are too socially awkward to realize it. Am I watching a different show?

    • @teabeasley
      @teabeasley ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, but it does break the videos own rule about them having absolutely no romantic love for one another. I my opinion, anyway. There's an obvious attraction between the two that the show is going for. By the way, fantastic username.

    10:04 not "many believe". It's a fact that they did. Ultimately it's up to the viewer how they interpret their relationship, but the fanfiction genre does come from them without a doubt. Also, your point about the representation, very well put!

    yes, you missed the best trek bromance of all time, though it may not qualify because of how INFREQUENTLY they saw each other....Picard and Q...season 2 of Picard was all about that....the reason why Q came to see Picard one last time and bring him on an adventure that most fans did not like....but the last episode made it worth it to me...(SPOILER) Q was dying as a Q would probably understand it and he wanted to see his best friend one last time

    Roddenberry himself said in an interview that Kirk and Spock DO love each other romantically and while they never showed physical (meaning sexual, as romantic doesn't have to be physical) love on screen, "We certainly had the feeling that the affection was sufficient for that, if that were the particular style of the 23ed century." And keep in mind, he said that back in the days where even openly hinting at homosexuality was still illegal in quite a few US states.
    Not to mention that nowadays the Roddenberry estate oftentimes post Spirk stuff.
    So ... feels a bit weird to see that on a bromance list.
