Because 106 still doesn't like bullets. Same with pretty much his entire containment - he can phase through complex materials, if he wants to, but it reduces his motivation for escaping.
In the business I think they call it a training scar, not that we face these threats today, but I dont see a military mindset person leaving his weapon behind just cause its a little more hopelless.
Is it just me, or does it seem like deadly blackouts happen at Foundation sites a little too frequently? One would think that an organization like the Foundation would have some kind of backup system in their facilities to keep that from happening.
The moment you take a moment to analyze things is the moment you realize that the SCP Foundation is probably at best the second most incompetent major anomaly fighting instution in it's own universe even as the "protagonist." They're often ridiculously unnecessarily cruel, and so incompetent/corrupt that they refuse to solve their own problems with the anomalous means they posses but will still take advantage of them just to serve the O5 Council, basically riding their own high horse into their own Doom time and again until their higher ups feel threatened. Which makes sense, considering they constantly feed the brightest minds in the world to anomalies regularly by being careless, sometimes on purpose when confronted with said flaws.
I mean church of th broken god chaos insurgency I always assume someone on there is tasked with doing this cause well if it only takes a 5 second power outage and you have reality breaking crap too I dunno I'd at least try every now and then
@@fluffypinkpandas The thing is, most government institutions at least care enough about lost funding and equipment to try and protect the equipment as well as the things they don't want to lose. They're spending so much on these facilities and making them so thorough, and then they're just leaving everything as is despite the numerous outages that continuously occur. I tend to think the SCP foundation for some reason hooks lots of stuff up to singular power units. Or interconnected power units that are reliant upon one another, or one singular unit to continue running. In the first place, with average power usage, that's a good way to overload a powersupply. With how much power they need to keep each singular part of the more complicated SCP containment imprisonments active, power outages would be rampant. Realistically, any company doing this sort of thing would look into solutions right away. If they're unwilling to change the power supply system, they'd move to alternative methods of keeping things in check. Especially transportation for cross-testing. The moment the lights went out one time while 173 was being transported, they'd have another means of keeping the SCP lit up during transportation. Alternative light sources would be trained on the thing even when the power is on until it reaches its destination. Even for the corrupt, complacent, and downright careless, the common reasoning for breaches leaves the SCP foundation seeming downright negligent and incompetent. Especially with how intelligent a lot of the design work for everything they do is, their funding, and what technology they have access to. Basically, the big thing here is, these things are dangerous to everyone no matter where they are if they escape, and its these that often get out the most. The higher ups would normally take this as reasoning to be more careful, so they can protect themselves in real life circumstances.
@@jacoblineberry1788 Narratively injected incompetence. is when, say, you are watching star wars and this "super deadly and threatening faction" is just missing all their shots because the main characters are not allowed to be actually under-threat in the story. For SCP writers, its when they need X to happen, and so make Y happen to accomodate it. So one day for no reason at all, Epstein-173's camera turns off in his cell and all the lights go off in order to have his super spooky badass containment breach event. it is the result of 1 million and 1 fan fiction writers submitting articles that get approved simply because "it evokes powerful emotions and makes my dopamine receptors fire" rather than instructed to revise particular segments that DAMN the foundation's ability to be competent and cautious as a foundation designed around anomalous objects should be. Their lore becomes this conflicting mish mash of incompetence and competence, because the 1 million and 1 writers can't seem to agree on how a government ran bureaucratic institution should function.
What if The Pestilence is suffering? We discovered during the events of SCP-5000 suffering wasn’t supposed to be part of the human experience. SCP-682 finds us disgusting because of the creature buried in our shared psyche. What if SCP-049 is attempting to cure mankind of the entity which causes suffering? His successes, while dead, do lack the ability to experience suffering and he admits to not being a perfect cure to The Pestilence. Maybe he’s aware of the symptom of suffering, but not the cause of the entity in the psychosphere?
Thats exactly what I was thinking. He could have some sort of idea of "IT" and is trying to get rid of "IT", but doesn't know how to and is using orthodox methods.
What if in all degrees anomalies are a byproduct of The Suffering/Pain? As they found ways to negate it or stop it completely by gaining anomalous abilities?
I believe the pestilence is fear. Seeing how every victim feared the plague doctor or showed signs of fear of something when they were present with the plague doctor before they died, it's probably fear. As for 106, it feeds on fear hence why the plague doctor saw it as the main source of pestilence.
049 said that theres humans that dont have the pestilence, yet those humans still feel pain. he also congratulated the foundation because there were less people with the pestilence in the facilities
Virgin Old man: Isn't a plague doctor Doesn't have a cool plauge doctor suit Can't cure pestilence Is creepy, old and ugly Gigachad SCP-049 Plauge Doctor: Is a plague doctor Does have a plague doctor suit Can cure pestilence Is old, cool, and Mighty good looking. Gigachad Plague Doctor wins.
From what I keep seeing of the old man, he seems to have a somewhat limited ability to shift. Toss him into a trajectory that would take him out of our solar system during his dormancy. I think distance and lack of surrounding mass/material to shift through would be key... Putting him into another dimension would not work due to his ability to "bridge" and the fact that multidimensional qualities tend to layer themselves.

Yes! 049 is my favorite because of this. His gifted power alone is cool, but the fact he expanded on it to making his own zombies. He is resourceful and surprisingly quick-thinking.
You know, I'm kinda surprised no Cyanide pills are distributed to SCP personnel, at least guards. I mean, something simple like a shoulder pouch where they can bite into it and steal the satisfaction from 106 as well as save themselves from literal torture.
This means that if the procedure took them about 5 minutes longer the whole breach wouldn't happen because there would be no sound of dropping the box.
Wish we got an explanation on how 049 managed to get him self back to containment. I would want to know how he managed to put 106 back to sleep too. The arm regrowing is just part of 049s anomalous arsenal.
Its always nice to se SCPs interact with eachother (even though it seems about 90% of the time it's because the foundation locked them both in a room seeing if they can't kill eachother)
Isn't it stated that bullets have 0 affect on 049 and has massive resistance to almost everything? How did he get hurt by a needle from a portal when a machine gun doesn't even make him flinch?
@@ctgckkotr792 It's not that he's healing, it's that he has higj resistance. His effects have show to be corrosive like acid, however a machine gun is much stronger than acid. 049 instantly cut off his own arm to stop the skudge, but it would do nothing to him.

So… did 049 die?? That ending left me with questions. Otherwise, it was thrilling. Edit: I’m assuming they did not die, but in terms of storytelling, I’m still left asking questions. Interesting thought, maybe the plague doctors “pestilence” is mortality. The fact that we are born dying, in contrast to him. It would make sense as he states that he has seen much of this pestilence through his time, and the fact we are all dying from the moment we are brought into this world is the one thing all living things have in common.
If 353 would introduced to 049, i bet 049 would lose when 353 would attack 049 with all diseases of real reality and scp universe + also with one extremely deathly influenza from 1918.
This was amazing as always. The Plague Doctor is one of my favorite SCPs. I'd learn french just to be able to speak with him in his native tongue. I wonder if he's aware he has fans or if he'd answer our questions, like the video with god.
I like 049, if they actually made a movie about the SCP Foundation I would want Paul Bettany (AKA Jarvis/Vision) to play 049 (mainly because their voices sound similar)
Considering how often the SCP's are made of "an unknown/unidentifiable material", I don't know why they would be so eager to work out what 106 is made of. Given his molecule makeup would most likely be just as unknown as most things are.
If SCP-106 isn't affected by 049's touch, wouldn't that mean he's already dead? In that case, couldn't 049 just use a syringe from his endless medical bag to reanimate and thus, control him?
I dont see how the people writing forget that SCP security are the best of the best. But they write them like scared children panicking at the sight of something they would be very familiar with by now. And with everything they have at their disposal, why would they be using guns as weapons when they already know they have 0 effect.
Ok what?? Aren't we all wondering what the hell happened to SCP-049?! The video doesn't mention if SCP-106 had finished him off or made it out alive but badly wounded!!

Foundation tried to terminate 682 with 049 once and 049 said 682 has Pestilence. (This channel has a short video about this) So Pestilence and IT from SCP-5000 are different (unless 682 itself has IT which is extremely low chance)
353 vs 049, 049 wouldnt had chance when 353 attacks with all diseases including deathly influenza from 1918, and what If 353 would adapt 049 deathly touch or its skills.?
I've always thought of 049 as the guy id want to have a beer with, just always teasing the idea he could see reason. Dear god did I see the character I like when he started prescribing an aggressive regimen of flashbangs.
As an scp foundation researcher, I have requested multiple times for the very fine setting of scp 914 to be used on a regular hand gun, only to be used against scp 106, 097, and 2317. I kept getting turned down, until they permanently stopped using 914 items on other scps, claiming that they’re too dangerous.
There's not enough death row inmates in the world to satiate the foundations uses for them. So it's funny to never mention the scp that make humans, some would say, for that purpose.
Couldn't you easily imprison the old man by keeping him in a chamber with high powered fans blowing in every direction so he just floats suspended in the middle not able to contact any surfaces? Or better yet in an orbital satillate suspended in 0 G?

it is the result of 1 million and 1 fan fiction writers submitting articles that get approved simply because "it evokes powerful emotions and makes my dopamine receptors fire" rather than instructed to revise particular segments that DAMN the foundation's ability to be competent and cautious as a foundation designed around anomalous objects should be.

The part where 049 throws flashbangs into the portals sounds like a portion of a boss fight.

@@sirowl2519 Exactly my thoughts. I believe he believes the symptom is the sickness and is unaware of the real condition.

From what I keep seeing of the old man, he seems to have a somewhat limited ability to shift. Toss him into a trajectory that would take him out of our solar system during his dormancy. I think distance and lack of surrounding mass/material to shift through would be key... in may ways its possible 049 is trying to remove ''it'' from the human soul (that weird parasite) but in doing so removes freewill and creates mindless zombies which it becomes the soul master to. it may just be ramblings but i love how all these videos open so many possiblilities to what could be
i forgot 096 in the short but noticable list
Foundation tried to terminate 682 with 049 once and 049 said 682 has Pestilence. (This channel has a short video about this) So Pestilence and IT from SCP-5000 are different (unless 682 itself has IT which is extremely low chance)
Where 173?
I love these SCP match ups! It seems that SCP-049 is just the unpredictable power we need to save the world from the other anomalies!
There's not enough death row inmates in the world to satiate the foundations uses for them. So it's funny to never mention the scp that make humans, some would say, for that purpose.
Weird how somehow the doctor managed to contain him again. He seems to know more than he is saying.
Couldn't you easily imprison the old man by keeping him in a chamber with high powered fans blowing in every direction so he just floats suspended in the middle not able to contact any surfaces?
Or better yet in an orbital satillate suspended in 0 G?
@Keith's Random Stuff They currently keep his cell at all time suspended by high power magnets,i think they can afford it
@Keith's Random Stuff those are most definetly electromagnets which do need power to work

Other SCP staff: Were you killed?
SCP-106: Sadly yes, but I LIVED.
I love the goofy animation, it almost comes off like none of this really happened and these are hypothetical videos for the staff. They have an in-flight plane emergency warning look to them.
