    Wear black gloves and the camera will expose the frame to compensate, meaning the shadowy areas in the control box will show up better. When you wear white gloves the frame becomes much darker making it harder to see everything.
    Thank you for making these videos. I’m a first time owner and they have helped me immensely.

    AZ expert, I appreciate all you folks that share your knowledge. I have the same unit that you are working on in this video . Coleman Mach 6535 basement AC. I’ve replaced all the capacitors, bearings on the fan motors, the #2 compressor relay. With a buddy’s help we replaced the circuit board after watching your video and following the instructions that came with it. I had an AC tech out who did a cursory inspection and he said the compressors looked good and that the board was probably bad so I ordered one and found your video. It’s still doing the same thing. I set the thermostat for one degree below the interior temp and switch it on, runs fine cools down to that temp and I move the thermostat 1 degree lower. If I go to 2+ degrees the second compressor come on , the exterior fan cuts off and the unit keeps drawing power until it is pulling 31 amps. Then it shuts down. Also if it is hotter (midday) and humid even though it’s only 1 degree below and the #2 compressor doesn’t come on it will pop the red reset button after 15 minutes. Any Ideas what I should try next? Thanks /

    • @AZExpert

      the exterior fan stops running? That needs to be running whenever the compressor is running.

    Great videos. I've been in the construction industry for many years, have been a home inspector and am a plant engineer. It's amazing how much gets done wrong on something brand new, how bad a good intentioned owner can screw something up and how poorly "experts" can troubleshoot. Nice work.

    First I want to thank you for such great content. I have a 2002 Winnebago Adventurer with basement dual heat pumps. I have been having an issue with compressors not running correctly. I found your video and I ordered two relays and the updated control board. After watching your video and reviewing the instruction I installed the board and relays today. Works like a champ. It was original board and as you showed my board also had been super heating at resistors. New board is so much simpler. Thank you again.

    My head is spinning watching you pull those wires!
    I have an '02 Adventurer 35U with the Coleman Mach Basement System (6535-A Board). The fans run in the coach fine, but compressor #1 does not kick on. Power management readout always shows between 1-3 amps depending what's on when I've been troubleshooting it (off my Generator).
    So far, I have replaced all 5 capacitors (2 new hard start kits, 2 motor run capacitors, and the fan capacitor), checked ohms on all compressor lead combinations (showing no issues) as well as jumping both the indoor and outdoor coil sensor to test for a possible temperature safety lock-out. All have produced no positive results, and I still have the green LED light rapid flashing.
    I've contacted a couple of buddies that deal in hvac, and they asked if I could check the refrigerant levels, but I don't think there is anywhere to verify that on these models, correct?
    What else could I be missing?

I am going through and putting shades on windows etc but it gets about 95 degrees during the day. That seems excessive with this type of system.

    What a great tutorial. I just bought a 2000 Winnebago as my first RV and have a lot to learn. My first step was to upgrade to 50 amp service. The ATS was 50 amp from the factory and your are right their 30 amp wiring was a complete mess. I ripped it out and wired direct to AC from the breaker box. Thank goodness I found this video because now I know I have the new circuit board and that the old diagram is invalid. And the mystery of 4 blinks on the green led is solved. My first AC problem was a broken / loose setscrew on the power input. I didn't like the cheap terminal board at all and replaced it along with the run caps and start caps and PTCs. Finally the primary compressor works. But number 2 appears to be locked up drawing a large current until the thermal switch cuts out.. Thanks to your other video I will pull out the unit and take a look at it. How critical is getting an exact replacement for the compressor?

    • @AZExpert

      Thank you! I'm glad it helped....but yes Winnebago did a very strange 30amp wiring for the basement A/C to work with a 5500 watt generator but 30amp service.

    • @alexchliwnyj5941
      @alexchliwnyj5941 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@AZExpert Yep compressor 2 was locked up because the copper tube on the suction side cracked and all the freon escaped a long time ago. The previous owner didn't know anything about it and had paid someone $600 to fix it when he bought it in December. I assume the AC tech didn't know anything about basement AC units so when he replaced the board and it ran on one compressor and it was December. I certainly didn't know there were two compressors when I test drove it. What a shame that Coleman dropped the low pressure switch. I have ordered two that screw on to the Schrader valves to protect the compressors in the future. This is an insidious problem because if the freon leaks out slowly you are almost guaranteed to burn up a compressor before the average person would notice. Bad engineering to save a few dollars.

I took a peek at my outside controller and the two black pieces that you replaced (Compressor #1&2 relays), were burned and melted( gotta change these out). I would also like to change out the mother board to the much simpler board. I appreciate the step by step instructions so I can mimic you while I install my board and relays. Great information and informative. I have a 2005 Journey with blower motor bearing noise. The blower is the one blowing on the ground so a bit confused on how all of this works. Guessing its the compressor fan although its a squirrel cage? curious if motor can be replaced without pulling the unit. Why in the world they didn't put this on a slide is beyond me. Heating and cooling are awesome but worried about life of blower with all of the rattling going on.

    • @AZExpert
      @AZExpert  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's very difficult to say. If you are on 50amp you should not have a reading, if you are on gas generator that may not be the true amp reading, if you are on 30amp with both compressors running that reading is too low.

    • @jeffharpster7099

      @@AZExpert I broke into the unit today and have some more info turned on the system, which is 6535A871 and had indoor fan start then compressor 1 start, then after delay compressor 2 started running on the diesel generator. The indoor EMS unit says running on 30Amp. My clam on amp meter read 8.5 on compressor 2 and 5.5 - 6.5 on compressor 1 fluctuating. Seems like the charge may be low? Do you know if these units have test ports that are accessible...I couldn't see any, so was thinking maybe the unit needs removed to get access. It is blowing about 25-30degree split in the unit now. Bedroom vents nearer the unit were reading about 45deg, thermostat was at 79, living room vents were about 58-60. looks like compressor 1 has some kind of issue due to low amps. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

    • @AZExpert
      @AZExpert  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most of these do not have service ports installed, a few older models do. You would have to remove the unit to gain access to the service ports or to install one. Your EMS should be showing the generator running if it is running off the generator. But at any rate, the unit should be cooling "ok" with those numbers. Check the main trunk duct and make sure you are not losing your conditioned air to the outside from leaks.

    Is there a web source to see layout/diagram for Coleman Basement ac on Winnebago RV? On Winnie forum a person suggests installing a supco spp6e e on Coleman to run parallel with run capacitor? What does AZ Expert say about that?
    In addition other winnie owner suggests if any start / run capacitor is older than 7 years spend the $20 to replace with new. What does AZ Expert say?
    So on basement ac if two compressors, each compressor has how many start/run capacitors? Two each compressor or one each compressor. If suppco spp6e is installed in parallel with run capcitor is there room?

    Thank you for the great video! The heat pump in my 2002 Horizon suddenly stopped last fall (2020). After watching your video I was sufficiently motivated to look for the cause. I used a hose to rinse out the dust like I have done many times before. Now it seems not to be working. The light on the board is blinking green very fast. I have the 6535A871. When taking the panel off I noticed some water at the bottom where the 12/2 110 wiring comes in for the 1st circuit and 2nd circuit. The AC was working fine before. Now I cant get the AC or the heat to come on. My fan works on "ON" but nothing is working on Auto. My gas furnace comes on from the Tstat. I have tried the reset of the tstat too. I checked the service manual and found with the light blinking fast means thermistors may be open. How do I check that?

    Too bad Coleman didn't design this with servicing in mind by installing a pair of "super heavy duty drawer glides" on the unit. This would make it easier to service regardless of the make of the motorhome without the need to remove it from the motorhome, much like Onan does for various models of their generator sets. This would make it easier for the motorhome owner to slide out the a/c unit to clean the coils, lube the blower motor. etc.

    My #1 compressor comes on maybe every 20 or 30 times that you try it. When it does comes on it works great. Does that sound like the board? Or do you have any other ideas? I've checked out the thermostat, replaced the lifeline (temporarily), replaced the start and run capacitors. Last time it started the outdoor blower failed to come on. So today I replaced the capacitor for the OD blower. The blower started up but the #1 compressor didn't feel like it was running. It did feel hot though. Unit was blowing warm air. Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

    Hello!!
    I am in Texas and my 06 Winnebago basement AC is working on one compressor. I think I want to replace the whole unit because the heat pump is. O longer working either and it’s coming to the end of its life anyway.
    It is a 6535b871.
    My question is, where can I find a guide in replacing it without just taking it out and “hopefully” figuring it out. I am mechanically inclined, but I want this to be quick. Thanks for any help you can offer

    We have a 2001 Winnebago 40 foot motor home, the ac is working somewhat but only pulling 10 amps and the heat of the day the motorhome just climb in heat inside what should I look for? there are no mechanics in my location. Can you share any information with me on what this may be?

    • @AZExpert
      @AZExpert  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be difficult to troubleshoot online, but each compressor should be pulling about 9 amps and the fan motors would add 4 to 5amps so it sounds like maybe only one compressor is running. If you are plugged into 30amps that's about all that will run you'd need 50amp or the generator. Obviously, check the air filter under the bed first.

      if it's a winnebago, there can be stops screwed in at the top, but if you have everything disconnected, including the clamping bolts that squeeze the a/c in place, sometimes the unit hangs up on screw heads underneath and it needs to be pryed up a little. They should slide fairly easily out.

    Nice work James! My 2011 Tour features a similar unit with R410. Comp #1 only provides 7 deg evap drop. #2 kicks out 20+. Repair shop can't see me for four weeks. See any issue with swapping the compressor leads (6&8) at relays and the four board pins (ac1 & ac2) to make #2 come on first?

    • @AZExpert
      @AZExpert  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There should be no issue with swapping compressor leads(ie making stage one now stage two and vice versa). My one advice, if this is to be a more longlasting/temporary repair until you get to the shop would be to let the shop know you did that. Mechanically speaking, each compressor only uses half of the shared coils, so there is no real differerence between which one is the first stage or second stage. Thanks!

    On hot days (85 degrees plus) my unit will stop blowing cold air (blower motor continues to run fine) after 2-4 hours of operation. I shut the unit down for a few hours and restart the unit and it works fine again. It doesn't happen all the time when it is that hot out, and has not happened when the temperature is below 80 degrees). I had an HVAC specialist test it and it checked out fine (both stages) and blew 50 degrees. But because it is an intermittent problem he wasn't able to test it when the problem occurred. When it occurred last time I could hear the compressor trying to start but cut off after a few seconds. Any ideas? Does this sound like a board or relay issue? It has happened while running the generator as well as when plugged into 50 Amp shore power.

      I'd take an amp reading on the black lead to the first stage compressor. If its 0 than it's not being turned on, if it's 3-5 amps than there is likely no refrigerant, if it's 8-12 that's about normal, and if its above 20 than there is a mechanical fault with the compressor. I'd also like to make sure the exterior blower is operating you should feel air blowing down from a wire grate underneath. Thanks!

      Sounds like the motor capacitor is bad. I'm guessing it's the exterior blower wheel you're spinning and that capacitor is unfortunately mounted inside the unit next to the motor. Of course, if you're going to replace that, you might as well do the motor and bearing since you're in there.

    • @AZExpert
      @AZExpert  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would start at the control board outside and see if the board is sending power to the motor and if the motor works on low speed too. Winnebago has a strange 12vdc wiring that can shut off the high speed blower through the EMS, assuming you have a Winnebago, but that's where I would start.

    • @ryantanner47

      @@AZExpert I have a Winnebago. I have been checking the voltages at the end of the lifeline on the PC board and it isn't matching the wiring diagram found on the service manual. The wires leaving the thermostat match the color of the diagram, but at the connector to the PC board, the colors are different and the pinout doesn't seem to match the diagram. It seems very unlikely that the wires were assembled incorrectly 15 years ago. Example, pin 9 (purple) shows 12 volts at the thermostat when fan is set to low. At the connector to the PC board, pin 9 does not show 12v and isn't purple.
      Does the ID blower motor have thermal protection built in that would shut itself off?
