    Thanks for the review. I’ve got the bike on order and I’m also in the process of slimming down to a svelte 250lbs, so it’s good to hear that your bike has coped with the load 👍

    Just picked up my Roscoe 6 from Trek @ Williamsburg VA (Thanks JP). They invited me in to watch my bikes unboxing and build, awesome! I did these initial upgrades at build: XR2 Tubeless tires, and Bontrager Flat MTB pedals. When I got it home, I added a Rock Shox enduro front fender and made all the needed cockpit adjustments (that took about an hour, I’m a previous road bike guy and like everything just a certain way). Took it out for my first ride yesterday and it was AWESOME! It’s not a Roscoe 8, but that was a tad out of my price range. The Roscoe 6 was stretching my budget, but I’m glad I went for this instead of the Marlin 7 (which was my first consideration). Great video and keep on Peddling!!!

    The derailleur hanger might be bent. Because if your derailleur hanger is even just a litle bit bent it dosent matter how much you adjust it it will still skip.

  • @BerserkerNick
    @BerserkerNick 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Helpful tip: take your derailleur hanger to your local machine shop and have them make you a new one out of stainless steel.
    I did this for my Roscoe and haven't had any issues since.

      That's a bad idea. The deraileur hangers job is to bend or break so your frame or deraileur doesn't.

    One upgrade I highly recommend is to switch to a wider bar and shorter stem. I ride a size large Roscoe 8 that came with a 750mm bar and a 60mm stem. I purchased a Race Face Affect 780mm bar and RF Affect 40mm stem, made a world of difference on technical sections. Easier to steer those 2.8's in rocky sections and quickened up the steering.

    For me good bike for exploring or longer trips, but min. on gravel paths - for the road not recommend. For sure it's not XC bike. Recommend upgrade :drivetrain, NX is... how to say... just su...not good enough, derailleur living his own life, shifter only tumb use. Crank+ chainring ok as well as cassette. One more thing - rear hub is Q141 with quick release made by Formula, if You think to change for power spline You need to buy new hub ( not many to choose) or whole wheel.

    I have the same roscoe 8 love it, though I'm a light rider 150lbs so the fork is pretty plush for me. As far as the sram derailleur i think it's a calibration issue man. Mine shifts ever gear perfect, i would maybe get another shop to look at if you're not able to get it tuned in yourself. I swapped out my 2.8 tires for 2.6" and went Tubeless it feels much more nimble and engaging to me now.

      I am getting a 2021 roscoe 8 brand new for 1500, I think its a no brainer and i LOVE the geometry and color, also I am 5.10 tall and weight 154 punds. I heard that the engagement its bad because of the hub, do you still have this bicecle? any sugestions? (also planing to change tires fo 2.5 or 2.6max)

    I had the same issue with a bent derailleur hanger on my ‘19 Marlin 7. It may be a Trek thing but IIRC they’re designed to be easily replaceable for that reason. Ask for the senior tech next time. He clearly didn’t do a good job if you’re still out of adjustment.

  • @oklahotb3217
    @oklahotb3217 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If your shifting is off in the middle of the cassette but is good at the top and bottom, that's a sign of a bent deraileur hanger.

    A good video for tuning your own derailleur-Park Tool. Keeping your gears shifting smoothly is such an ongoing thing, it’s good to be able to do it on the fly. Great video. Keep up the good work man.

  • @monkeysize
    @monkeysize 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry not time to read through the comments to see if it was addressed. The skipping you experienced sounds like a bent der hanger. T he der hanger is meant to break if the der gets hit. It might be able to take a small hit and lightly bent back into place but the next hit will mean time to replace...so no, it's not "a Trek thing". Cool pedals by the way.

    I have a 2019 and while I love the bike I hate the boost 141 qr spec on the rear hub. I think Trek is putting a better hub on now than in 2019 but mine was garbage. 3 hub bodies in one season and all Trek said is take it back to the LBS. I finally ended up building up a Stan's wheel with a Hope hub.

    Hey there Kenny, nice bike and NICE send!!!
    I hope you got your shifting figured out!
    If not, here are some things to think about.
    Shifting problems like yours where a few cogs are the issue will likely stem from indexing. As well as a bent derailleur hanger. Almost always, it’s a bent hanger. You said you really ride your bike hard so that’s my guess. Sounds like the shop you brought it to did a rush job. It’s easy to just index it, charge you some money and off you go with the same issues. So frustrating to me to hear these stories. 1. Derailleur should be inspected for possible issues. (Twisted pully cage etc...) 2. A derailleur hanger inspection and alignment should be performed. 3. All 12 gears properly indexed. (Make sure all barrel adjusters are turned in all the way then a rotation and a half back out before cable is reattached) 4. A road test as the pressures of riding put different stresses on the drive system than just sitting in a bike stand. 5. Make sure components are the same brand to avoid incompatibility or at least aftermarket compatibility.
    LBS’s can be good and some can be not so good for service on your bike. During this pandemic, I have seen lots of rush jobs because they have taken on SO many repairs. They had no bikes or parts so they have make their money somehow. Unfortunately this kind of service can tarnish their name. When you bring it in, ask them what they will do to diagnose your problem. When you pick it up Test the bike in their parking lot before you go. Also, don’t leave the shop without a spare hanger. Keep the hanger in your ride bag! Hope this helps a little.

  • @TomKennedyUSA
    @TomKennedyUSA 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd have another experienced bike shop guy look at that shifting issue, it should go smooth through all gears. Almost everyone changes out the 'contact points' - pedals, grips, seat - personal preference items. Great bike!

  • @polishguywithhardtospellna8227
    @polishguywithhardtospellna8227 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could try longer dropper, to have the seat even lower thus prevent breakage when jumping, but you also have to set a line somewhere cause just throwing money at it will get you to full suspension that you didn't get. I guess doing some squats to strenghten your legs can also help, and help more really cause you know how tiring it is, to ride while standing so much off road.
    Blowing a seal might have happened due to the fork having to work a lot in full stroke, and sucking air into the lower legs. Or it could have had more just from putting it together certain way in the factory.(you can put it together to instantly create pressure in lower legs, or try to avoid this as much as possible) So you can release this pressure and also do it periodically, by pushing in a small cable tie between dust seal and stanchion, smooth end first and smooth edge towards the seal. You will even hear a small hiss. There are videos on YT. If you wanna do this often, i'd prepare a spacial smoothed out cable tie or other piece of plastic with all the edges rounded off. Cable ties are quite ok, but not perfect. And off course clean the area first not to push dirt in or have some drop from above while you're doing it. Pressure can build up in both lower legs. Same people are anal about it and do this preride, cause it does act as if you added pressure and stiffens up the fork.

    When i got mine the gears weren't weren't going through the whole range. So i took it in for an adjustment. Apparently 12×1 has to be be adjusted perfectly or it has issues. I don't mind the saddle, but i heard the WTB Volt is a particularly good mtb seat

    I can’t get my rebound to work, I twist the black cap thing on the bottom but there is no difference, any tips or am I doing something wrong?

    • @greghunter275
      @greghunter275 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, I hope you got your rebound adjustment figured out. If not; dial it all the way in then put load on the fork, you should see a delayed response back then dial out all the way, put load on the fork and you should see an immediate response back do you notice any difference. If you really don’t see any difference after doing that then the fork needs to be looked at. If you do notice a difference then you can set up your rebound by dialing all the way in and then back it out by 2-3 clicks. Then ride your trails and fine tune as needed! I would count the total number of clicks the adjustment has as well then you know what range you have to work with.

    Hey @Kenny Bondeson, I was just thinking about what kind of mountain bike to get. I am completely new to mountain biking and I don't have that much knowledge. Some bicycle shops have directly recommended a Fully to me, for example the Trek Remedy 8 2021. Another shop told me I should get the Trek Roscoe 8 2021, because I learn to ride better with it. What's your opinion?
    Here in Germany we currently get no bike before the end of May. So I can save up money and maybe get a Fully
    .
    Cheers from Germany and Great Video´s

    • @mountainbond1743
      @mountainbond1743  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man! Thanks for reaching out. I personally think a hard tail would be better for a beginner cause like the other shop said you’ll learn to ride better. What they mean by that is a hard tail requires more bike control and that will come much quicker on a hard tail than a fully.
      Cheers!
