My lolo survived the Death March because he knew how to cook and a Japanese officer made him his house cook. He learned Nihonggo too. Once he was freed, he went home to Panay Island and led the guerillas against the Japanese and retired as Captain when the war ended. He then continued law school and finished his degree.

Thanks to him in his bravery and and came to the United States. Thanks to my father we have a blessed life now. With great respect in love for my father.
Thanks, been watching you forever. A little help toward a new luggage can't have you getting stuck. You are one of the reason I went to Philippines this February. And you are right it is a beautiful country.
@@25Soupy I'm sorry but only the business district & touristy part of those places you mentioned are clean. In reality, they're surrounded by dugyot residences. If you want a clean city, start with Iloilo City.
155,King of battle!!! My step fathers dad was not part of death march but was in hiding in the mountains with a few other American soldiers and Philippine soldiers or brave citizens without military training and he told my step father all the time how brave and hard as nails they were they are the only reason he and fellow American soldiers survived and how even back then the Philippine people were soft spoken and were deadly quick and brave when fighting the Japanese, I never met him but yep dad said he only talked about it when really old and only time he ever cried when remembering how vicious the Japanese were to Philippine people but they never betrayed the Americans hiding places and no americans would of lived if not for the tougness and bravery of the philapino people,I really appreciate this episode and can't wait till I'm there,Thanks
Your comment brought a tear to my eye. I either saw in a documentary or read somewhere that many Filipinos were killed when caught delivering aid or trying to give water or food to those on the Bataan Death March. & yes there were many non formal military as well as actual Philippine military who fought & died. It disturbs me when some history (to me) seems to disregard that & attribute all military endeavors of WW2 to the Americans (who were indeed very brave & made many sacrifices including many their very lives, & I am a proud American), but so many for most of my life seem to have no knowledge at all of Phil-USA history. Except those like your step grandfather…God rest his soul….
The 🇵🇭 Phillipines were a possession of the United States won in the Spanish American war in 1898 ! After world war 2 , America granted the Phillipines its independence on July 4 1946 ! It was granted due to the Filipino people and the amazing dedication to the defeat of Japan 🇯🇵 ! These people fought as Guerrilla men women and children , while under occupation !
It is a shame how little American's know and understand the huge sacrifices made by both the Civilians and Military of the Philippines. So many gave their lives to help US Soldiers.
I got to say, you are just one of the very few foreign vloggers that prioritize reaching out to local tourism before anything. The other foreign vlogger that I can think of is Kulas who also has connections with the local tourism. Keep it up!
Michael I have to agree with one of the comments you would make a good TV host. You are so good with meeting people. Keep up all the great videos. I am enjoying your travels.
Oh sorry your already came to Mt samat. I thought when i first watched you in las casas youd never visit there but then i finally watched youd been there and i thqnk you for featured.the Mt. SAMAT. GIDBLESS.BRO❤
I'm married to a Filipina from Bataan. 8 years ago we met. We now have a home in Bataan and plan to retire there over the next 5 years. Love the people, the culture and you just get way more for your money. The government leaves you alone. Also I'm from Canada and looking forward to no more winter!
I have to say, because of you this is another destination in the Philippines that I will visit! Thank you! Your depiction of the less featured cities is so helpful. I am planning to retire in the Philippines in about 8 years. I am not sold on any place I particular, so your vids are giving me a lot to think about! Great job brother!
Love your channel. My Mother's Father fought in Bataan and my American Grandfather took back Luzon. I still have relatives there. Matter of time. I will come to the Philippines soon.

21:00 i remember going up in that elevator when it was still working in 2006. You can feel the fresh wind at the top and great 360 degrees view of Bataan and Manila Bay from afar and see luscious greeneries below.
That WWII memorial at 4:14 is in Dinalupihan. I have very good friends that live in Little Baguio in Hermosa, Palihan. Last time I was there was 2019. Hope to get back there this year.

Hi Michael, thank you for promoting Bataan. Thank you Local Tourism for the great job in supporting Micheal. V,loggers like Michael is our voice to locals and the world.

Happy Good Friday from NYC in the USA. As I suffered through another 45 degree (F) and drizzly evening in Manhattan, I was so glad to stumble upon your Blog! The appreciative and happy folks in the Philippines always warm my heart. I truly enjoyed your informative narrative regarding an important and pivotal piece of both American and Philippine history. My grandfathers' were both part of "The Greatest Generation" that fought and protected the United States during World War 2. Sadly, since it has now been more than 80 years, most of those heroic individuals are no longer with us. Once again, excellent work! You really seem natural at doing that and your enthusiasm and passion are very apparent! Looking forward to your next video.
I enjoyed your video, I have been to Balonga and Mt Samat. Last year when my wife and I visited her son and his family and our granddaughter. We are going back again. Battan was very emotional because my Dad fought in the Philippines to free Battan during WWII. Keep up the good work.
I love the way you interact with the locals. You are very sociable and doesnt mind going to public market. Good vibes! You should make your name “Good Vibes Philippines Life”.
Bataan is really big in history. It is also big in industries: home to biggest refinery, power plants, several export processing zones. Per capita income is relatively higher in Bataan. 👍🏾
Bataan, like Cavite, is another historical province. Thank you for sharing this vlog with us. Hopefully the bridge linking Bataan and Cavite will be finished and afford us shorter travel time.
Wow. I was born in Bataan long long time ago. Went home for a vacation last December, I haven’t seen a lot of histories in my home province.
