Top notch my brother. ‘Divine Intervention’ is my favourite SLAYER album due to Paul’s masterly, technical and brutally powerful debut behind the kit. This track is not for the novice to undertake and even with your chops, your fast groove left the pocket @ 2:34 directly following the fill.
    Edit : Props! 🤘🏻

I have been playing for 37 years and I know that you have some time behind the kit as well-- Remo pinstripes and a Remo power stroke!!!!! And that cross sticking and your drum fills are absolutely insane!!!! Old school way of doing things you are a page right out of metal history!!!!! Salute-- my brother!!!! ❤️🙏🥃🥃🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🤘🤘🤘🤘🌎😇😃

Nailed it! My favorite Bostaph song by far. Not an easy song to play consider the how the fills are placed.

Excellent accuracy! Man this album came out 94'. Bostaph was the perfect replacement for Lombardo. He is very solid and crazy good! Give Tom araya credit on incredible bass performance and vocals too!

    Lombardo? Nah. I prefer, Bostaph

People of exceptional taste who are cerebral, musically seasoned, instrumentally informed, drumming connoisseurs and drummers alike all prefer Paul Bostaph’s drum tracks with SLAYER over Dave Lombardo’s. Paul’s an outstanding live performer, his playing is much more powerful / heavier and he’s technically superior to Dave. His debut effort of drum track compositions joining SLAYER in ‘94 on DIVINE INTERVENTION has ensured it will forever be known as a timeless masterpiece of peerless thrash drumming and an unsurpassed masterclass in constructing memorable, emotive drum tracks while creating uniquely original musical stories of brutal complexity with the most physically demanding and highest degree of difficulty in which to conquer amongst all other instruments of percussion.
Edit : Even Paul’s drum tracks of slower tempo are ingeniously creative and extremely powerful (e.g.) GEMINI : I love playing it and the hook on the toms within each verse’s groove is wild af.

@Virvum_Juggernaut I totally agree with all this. I compare Dave's style to that of Bam Bam. He hits hard and fast. Bostaphs, push/pull technique adds a level of speed and precision Dave, doesn't have. I call it "smart mans" drumming. 👍🤘

@@peeholio3260 Great call! Paul is definitely a drummer’s drummer. Watching his live technique of playing style it’s apparent that when playing slower songs, his sticks incorporate exaggerated arcing for his crash and tom strokes for not only impacting with power, but also for keeping time. His movements around the kit are stylistically cool and very easy on the eye. When playing in this stylish manner, he reminds me of an extreme metal version of a prime Tommy Lee. I have learned the vast majority of SLAYER drum tracks over the years and Bostaph’s are of a greater degree of difficulty to replicate accurately than Dave’s are.
Edit : When 100% healthy and free of injury Paul’s double bass chops were superior to Dave’s in terms of their musical placement, speed, technical patterns and metronomic keeping of time. I’m sick of haters claiming his feet were useless because they’ve only seen a live clip from the end of his career with SLAYER., when he was suffering from debilitating and painful injuries which affected his playing to the point where he quit the band in 2012.

@Virvum_Juggernaut right...several years back here on TH-cam, I was fortunate to engage in a conversation with a drum tech from Slayer. After going back and forth through several messages he did discretely admit, that he chose Bostaphs, playing over Lombardo's. I hate to come off sounding like Im bashing on Lombardo. I do like alot of his chops he's played. Skeletons of Society, is one of my faves. I would love to see, Bostaph play live. Never have had the opportunity. I did however get to watch one of my faves from right behind his rig play one night. Alex Grind, from Despised Icon. Talk about speed. That a whole other conversation.

@@peeholio3260 I’ was fortunate enough to see Bostaph play live twice : once on the Divine Intervention Tour and again their tour for God Hates Us All. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. Wow dude! I love DESPISED ICON but have never seen them live and have only seen Alex Pelletier play on their live gigs on YT or his drum playthroughs. I envy you because they are so tight in concert, so it would have been something to see (talk about unique playing styles hey?). I, too, respect Lombardo for his pioneering thrash drumming on Reign In Blood and his catalogue of numerous tasty drum compositions which I enjoy playing. Pete Sandoval was my main drumming influence when Altars Of Madness was released and was killer in his prime, but Tim Yeung blew my mind watching him play live. Even when playing at breakneck speeds, Tim still managed to incorporate some ultra-slick stick tricks in his performance (I love his DIVINE HERESY drum track for Facebreaker and the video of Tim playing it when jamming with Dino without the vocals in the recording sounds 10 X better than the original. It’s one of the sickest drum tracks ever created. Sean Reinert (R.I.P.) was a beast on DEATH’s album Human and was only 20 yrs old when he recorded it 😱! To think that a 20 yr old gay man changed the approach to extreme drumming by introducing jazz elements into the mix. I also love playing to Gene Hoglan’s works from Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic by DEATH. Not to mention playing Igor Cavalera’s awesome drumming on both ARISE and CHAOS A.D. Unfortunately I can’t accurately replicate the works of the drummers in my favourite albums of all time to listen to by my favourite brutal tech death bands … such as : Darren Cesca on “Nucleus” by DEEDS OF FLESH • David Diepold (COGNIZANCE / OBSCURA) • Sebastian Lanser (OBSIDIOUS / OBSCURA) • Jamie St Merat of ULCERATE • Janne Jaloma on “God Ends Here” by AEON • Spencer Prewett (who just quit ARCHSPIRE) • Simon Schilling (his Meinl drum playthrough) • Giulio Galati of HIDEOUS DIVINITY.
Dude, you must listen to the unhinged drumming of Alexander Kubiashvili from ABOMINABLE PUTRIDITY on their album Abnormalities Of Artificial Origin. It’s released on Unique Leader’s YT channel or the band’s YT channel, so try the track “Letting Them Fall” because his song structure is brutally heavy, fast and technically difficult but absolutely unique in relation to the flow between the many transitions and breakdowns … but his footwork! 🤯
