That's true, but, it's also the fact that he's an original member of the band, not a hired musician. The band should split everything, except for songwriting royalties and the like, evenly. Tour receipts, merchandise, etc - EQUAL! There's a reason Steve Harris and Nikki Sixx write 99% of their bands music, but, they're all rich!!!!!
I was a Slayer fan with "Reign in Blood" but became a huge Dave Lombardo fan when "South of Heaven" came out. Between those drums, thick riffs, and Rick Rubin's ahead-of-its-time production . . . perfection.
Christopher Bell Thanks. I was just about to go to my calculator. He should have been an equal share holder if you ask me. His style was unique and contributed greatly to the classic Slayer sound.
Agreed! 67k per year is not shit. I make way more than him and I have a regular job. 250k per year minimum for Daves work. Watch, Dave will return and when he does, Slayers popularity will skyrocket. Kerry even said it; when Dave returned in 2001 or whenever it was it brought back a ton of fans. They made a DVD because if it. Still Reigning in 2006.
The fact that he spills his guts at a private session while unknowingly being filmed instead of a regular interview shows how likely he’s not lying at all
It's sad because it doesn't even sound like there was bad blood within the band. It's the fact they were all being stolen from, but the rest of the band was apathetic to it. They ARE the band. They ARE the leverage. They hold all the cards. I don't understand why they wouldn't stick up for themselves.
he conveniently forgot to mention that he went up to the band with his payment disputes *less than a week* before the band was supposed to start a big tour in Australia and he was basically making it clear that he's gonna sit at home and not work with the band at all until he gets his way
@Fuzzy Butkus well clearly that "bargaining position" thing didnt work for him since Slayer just kicked him out and replaced him. If Dave had done his thing after the tour or a month or 2 before it he would at least have the moral high ground in this, now he made himself the guy who tried to hold the band hostage
AnonymousCowardX Facts. Even the best don’t make much money in rock. Shit is crazy. Amazes me why guys keep going for it. I had to get out. Making sub 60K a year as an adult male in post 2010 is just not good enough. Especially with no retirement plan and medical insurance is just not smart. No matter how much you love music
There are tears in my eyes here knowing a guy who composed drums for angel of death, war ensemble and the likes makes less than a grand per show. It is insulting !
Seems like the drummer always gets the shaft. Dave is one of my fave drummers. His style helped make SLAYER what it was. Nothing against Bostaph but I always thought Dave fit SLAYER better.
No matter what lombardo, you're are the reason slayer became SLAYER!!! And regardless what many might say, once you left,so did slayer.. and never was the same ,never!!! You forever will be one of the GREATEST drummers to hit the scene...thanks dave lombardo! Thank you.
Absolutely! He's such an approachable guy and doesn't treat people like strangers. If you're cool, he's cool back! Met him backstage at 2 different OG Misfits shows. Such a humble dude.
I come back to this video every few months because I hear the hurt in his voice, and it reminds me NEVER let anyone take advantage of you, especially business partners. When you first start a band it about the music. Then for the lucky few it becomes about the fame and glory. Then it becomes about the money. They say never meet your heroes - they may turn out to be zeroes. Slayer (KK and Tom), Ronnie James Dio, Ozzy Osborne - I love their music, but money and power rotted their souls. I hate what happened to Dave, to Vivian Campbell, and to Jake E. Lee. Their love of the music and their friendships blindsided them. They let themselves be taken advantage of, by people they trusted to look out for them. It is a despicable shame what happened to them, but the music industry is rife with stories like this. I'm glad Dave is putting this chapter of his life behind him, keeping positive and sharing his profound gift to those around the world. Thanks Dave for all you've given us! Cheers!
I agree, man! Jake E. Lee is really underrated guitar player - in rock history and in Ozzy career (( He is one of my favorite rock guitar players. And favorite Ozzy guitar player.
Thanks for the truth david always is the best. I played drums for 55 years I’m retired now but watching you put out all that energy for $67,000 is such a joke God bless you man you’re a hard-working drummer wonderful talent with loads of heart
Jamie Baron Have you listened to Justice for all? Have you listened to Garage Days? He has been voted best drummer of the year many times in the 80´s and 90´s. LU was a very technical and prolific drummer until the Black Album, he said in an interview that he wanted to switch over normal drumming style like AC/DC were doing(less technical) because he thought it was better. Basically he got tired of the technical drum style. Saying he has no talent is just wrong. The man wrote the first 5 albums of Metallica with James(the rest I don´t care for, just mater of taste).
***** So you're saying Lars is one of the best metal drummers of all time? Do you only listen to Metallica then? Because he doesn't even grace the top 10 in my opinion, if you go by talent anyway. Just because he is in one of the most commercially successful bands on the planet, doesn't make him a fucking legend. Yes he is a dick, but that doesn't affect his lack of talent, you can tell he stopped progressing a long time ago, mostly i think that has to do with ego, like, "I'm as good as I need to be."
+Green Man there is a long history of personal issues, too. Dave is an intense guy, a hell of an artist where most drummers are like the borg, he has that thing which elevates him above the rest. He had a central role in how Slayer developed their sound. In many instances, I can see how songwriting credits and respective royalties are allocated to primary songwriters, but in the case of a band like Slayer, where each guy brings so much to the table in the style and song development, a more balanced distribution of royalties could have made for a smoother ride. Doesn't matter much now.
Green Man you never know. Hell has frozen over before with these guys. I do like them with Dave better. It's what I grew up on. Bostaph and Dette are awesome in their own right, but there is only one Lombardo.
I think it's more about money. It's like, for 30 years, there were people ripping you off and your friends didn't give a fuck about it. It's money but not entirely....
If Kerry and Tom were receiving the same amount as Dave, they would've said something to their management, together as a band; if they had the mutual feeling of missing money. I give Dave props for standing up for himself and leaving. …I know it's only money, but the principle of the matter is not being taken advantage of.
It's only money?, man that's right, it is only money, and I'd love to see any musician give up their money to charity, to ease poverty, sickness, no, and there is nothing wrong with it, but bands are in it for the money (some for the sex too). Rock bands, principles? Hahahahaha, they have none. I'm sorry, but the premise you started from there is irreparably flawed.
That was the first time I met him and the second time a met him wasn't that long ago and I apologised to him for putting this video up and he forgive me, because he got loads of questions in interviews because of this video I uploaded thanks for watching guys
That's awesome he forgave you. I always wondered about that kind of thing and if I'm the person uploading the video how would I feel about it. I wish I would've made note of how many views this video had when I made my comment ^ 1yr ago because I seem to remember it was something shockingly small like 2000 views or something.
+Andrew Kirk James Dave Hammett Thanks very much for uploading it even though it caused some issues. I think it's very honourable that he was willing to open up regarding the whole thing. I went to his clinic about 12 years ago and it was amazing so seeing him as an artist really is great.
Why should any apologies or forgiveness be needed? He spoke in public on record about the corruption. In doing so he revealed a very common problem in the music industry, and educated those in attendance. That's what a clinic should be about. Not just some guy or gal banging on his or her drum set. His teaching point happened to be about the filthy side of the business, versus some practice technique or stylistic element.
+TheWitchOvAgnesi good points. note that during that whole explanation, not one ill word toward his bandmates. not saying it was always that way, just saying it at least seems that legal fees and insurance racket, airline racket, all those rackets designed to corner and essentially leave you with little choice but to say "no more". the undercutting of bands is criminal and sadly common.
Dave has NEVER, to my knowledge, EVER thrown Slayer under the bus in any way. Always tactful and truthful. The rare combo of integrity and God-given talent. Love me some Dave. Thanks so much for sharing this with us fans.
Kerry King was full of shit in his interview... He didn't take Bostaph back because Bostaph had changed, he took him back because they could pay him even less than Dave!
Disgusting, Dave Lombardo's drumming is one of the most important elements to the Slayer sound and he should be paid the same amount as the others. It sounds like Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley in Kiss, that's how they roll.
Jason Voorhees This is the true inside story right here. It's very rare a band will talk in this much detail about actual figures they earn. Tom and Kerry arn't naive, you can bet they get a healthy bonus on top of that $114k too and Daves guess of $200k is probably on the low side I would say. $4.4m! "Here's your $67k Dave". Amazing
Dave is the reason I started playing drums back in 1990. I used to put my massive speakers one on each side of my kit and crank south of heaven and play along over and over and over again! Until I got it! Thank you Dave you were my inspiration for over 25 years! I toured the USA & Canada 6 times with my band called Stand Up. Thank you for challenging me and making me sweat it was worth it! Hopefully that is a little reward for you. You deserved so much more!!
Dave is one of the greatest drummers ever and was part of a band that remained totally relevant and popular during his entire tenure with them and yet he made only $67,000 a year? As a successful businessman, I can't blame him for demanding an audit and a review. I've seen Slayer with Dave 3 times and once with Paul Bostaph. Bostaph can cover the parts technically, but he doesn't have the same feel, groove, or vibe. I knew right away it wasn't Dave. What a shame!!
Well, in Bostaph's defense, there are very few people who can replicate another person's style. Bostaph has to be appreciated for Bostaph, and Lombardo for Lombardo.
Seen them twice with Lombardo, twice with Bostaph. second time I saw them with Bostaph he fucked up THAT kick drum fill in "Angel of Death". absolutely shocking. Lombardo is the better drummer live.
Bostaph can no longer play any double bass runs... The last couple of tours it's easy to tell his abilities have erroded drastically... It's unfortunate but it's a fact.
Kevin Jones I agree that Dave is the better drummer too, that's why it was a total bitch to see DAVE fuck up the kick drum break in'Angel' at 'clash of the titans' in London back in 90'...
Dave should be paid the most out of the band/ when they play live he works the hardest and sounds the best. his drumming is flawless /your the man dave and a drumming legend
I met Dave Lombardo on the Rain in Blood tour and even then I knew that he was a genuine, honest and down-to-earth kind of guy. I believe his word more than anybody else from Slayer.
He's getting screwed by the bassist/vocalist and the guitarist with the beard. He should walk out in the middle of a big show so they can see how it feels to work for nothing
@gaboxd4407 I knew that, he was with them from the beginning wasn't he? I'm an old dude that used to be into black sabbath and judas priest n stuff (I'm 63) but a younger buddy of mine is a slayer nut! But he always talks about them to me, they sound great. I think he went to their show like 2 yes ago in Columbus, he got me a cool tee shirt. Later man, didn't mean to rile ur feathers lol
He did! You're right - this should get mainstream coverage! CNN and ABC, and all of the big networks should broadcast this immediately! Even break in on regularly scheduled programming!!!!!
@@gregorydavis9691 that's why Dave left the first time. They literally weren't paying him anything and he had a kid so he was forced to leave to get a regular job
The Amount Of Views This Video Has Got Over The Last Couple Of Hours Is Unreal :D Thanks Guys :D Hope You's Like Dave Lombardo The Masterclass Videos :D
I'm so on team lombardo in this whole slayer thing! Ever since he's out - slayer is history. Same story with portnoy and dream theater. these two guys are just so necessary for the sound of what their bands have been known for.
In portnoy and DTs case it's even more apparent, since the man was a producer and songwriter in the band besides being an amazing drummer. Their next 3 albums after portnoy was off is ridiculously mellow and boring. Portnoy was quite literally the "metal" in the "prog metal" the band became famous for
I've been on his side since I heard about it. I was still in highschool at the time when it first started making news around 2010 or maybe a year or two later. It wasn't super long after Big 4 if I'm correct? I was so pissed off being the drummer kid
Unbelievable, a total drumming hero of mine and one of the main reasons I learned to play the drums as a teenager and studied music thereafter. Where's the money gone? Lawyers, agent's, management and anyone else who can squeeze the juice of a hugely profitable machine. Lombardo is and always will be an outstanding drumming legend and maestro.
this also upsets me as a hardcore Slayer fan, like wtf was I supporting for so long? These greedy half-wits who only used Slayer as a trademark? Was I just rooting for a bunch of puppets? Ugh, sickening feeling.
That's about $745 per gig, for Dave. Wow, what a shame. The guy basically pioneered a style of drumming that is still huge today. He is an original member of Slayer. This is how he gets treated? He should call the cops. Are Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley his managers?
Wow here in the Philippines the average musician gets paid $10 to play 40 songs a night. And it is very frustrating that even singers who bust their vocal chords off earn just as much. I wonder when we can even get somewhere a quarter of that.
I believe that Management (including Kerry and Tom) were keeping two books. One for them and one for the others, including Dave. When Dave was making a push for a independent audit, Kerry panicked and immediately fired him. Why else, it makes no sense. How could an independent audit be so bad that it gets a founding member immediately fired?
Yeah, it would seem to guarantee ALL members more money. So for them to not want to generate vastly more income for future endeavors, as well as have cause to sue for past moneys, there must be something going on, such as another book or some cash layout that is being accounted for separately in offshore accounts. Ahh, the wonderful world of the music biz!
An organic force...exactly. I wish I could like that comment a few times here...that's exactly what this man is. Had the pleasure of meeting him in Dublin a few days ago, what a raw energy and wildness he has in his drumming.
Neil Power Meeting Lombardo is very cool,Neil! Yeah, that level of tension he creates and the way he shifts things around so subtly; its incredibly unique to hear that in rock, never mind a thrash band. The man has style!
+the artist formally known as craig lastname Disagree. They have their best selling album in years. Garry Holt brings a lot to the table. Dave has been pretty aimless lately- You Against You. Too bad because the best Slayer albums were the ones with Dave.
dkyelak I haven't heard a decent song from slayer since disciple. Dave didn't play that one (paul did a great job) so I don't see slayers lack of form as a result of losing dave, but I think slayers problem was when Kerry king took over from jeff hannamen. Garry holt would have been better off working with jeff.
the artist formally known as craig lastname Interesting observations. I actually like the last 3 albums. It seems Tom would like to quit and doesn't get on with KK but if they let Holt contribute and give proper member status, I think Slayer could put out a BRUTAL album.
+the artist formally known as craig lastname I am getting the impression from watching recent Slayer videos that the big problem is Kerry King not knowing how to do anything other than Slayer. Like his eggs in terms of talent or ideas are all in a Slayer basket. Whilst it is true that Tom and Jeff never did much outside of Slayer, either, Dave at least has shown he can do a whole lot more than play thrash. His work with Fantômas is a thousand times more challenging and interesting in just one album than Slayer’s entire catalogue.
Dave is a straight up guy. You can hear the honesty in his voice and demeanor. In the end, it’s a business like any other business. It always comes down to the money.
Dear Dave, I've been a major fan of your abilities ever since I was a teen growing up in the 80's. You most definitely deserve all of the best. Much love with the highest amount of respect Dave. You're definitely an inspiration.
I met Dave when my band played with Testament on the Gathering tour. He is not only an amazing drummer but a amazing person as well. He was nothing but sweet and appreciative to me. He was tired and had his wife and kids with him they wanted to go to the hotel but didn't have a ride so I took them in my bands van and he was so kind the whole way. Didn't mind any questions about music and him in general. Hands down one of the coolest people I've met.
It sounds as though Tom and Kerry "Peter Crissed" Dave. Trying to make him an employee instead of an actual part of the band when it came to finances. These guys should have been very wealthy by now just from touring.
Agreed = and I think they (Tom and Kerry) totally took him the wrong way. Dave was trying to fight for all of them to make more money. He wasn't saying Tom and Kerry were screwing him...he was saying the executives were screwing all of them - and had for YEARS. All of them should be wealthy after the decades of great albums, huge tours, etc. - and they are not. Instead, the "management", lawyers and accountants that Tom and Kerry trusted, are the ones who got wealthy. It's a shame. They all deserve better and Dave was trying to fight for that...and instead of thanking him, they told him to get lost. Nice friends - and even better business partners.
this guy's a legend. learned how lo play listening to this guy from hell awaits through to seasons in the abyss. . . . this guy left some of the most hair raising difficult and imaginative chops to the everlasting cloud.
Oh wow, I didn't think Dave would publicly divulge this information. He's an intelligent and well-spoken person ... and I thought the days of the record companies and management extorting vast sums from musicians were over. Sorry to hear of this Dave - you deserve better and I hope the future is bright and prosperous.
his honesty is refreshing......He's a legend and smart enough to question shit....has every right to know where his money is going........deserved better, You rock Dave.
What blows my mind about this is, I make just about the same amount of $ per year playing gigs in clubs as he made with Slayer!?! Something has to be amiss here.
I'm a guitar player and Dave was without a doubt my favorite member and a big reason why I even listened to Slayer. What he did with the band and especially S.O.H took Slayer from a good metal band to one of the best in the world. TBH whenever I listen to them it's mostly just their 80's material like pretty much every metal band from back in the day. Seasons may have been more commercially successful but I think S.O.H blows it away largely in part because Dave was firing on all cylinders. Something very haunting about that album. I think I even prefer it over Reign.
Dave, YOU ARE A CLASS ACT! I feel horrible that you were treated the way you were! It’s UNCONSCIONABLE! However, it’s typical in our society today! The lawyers siphon off the majority of the money and leave “table scraps” for those who are doing ALL OF THE WORK! Very, very sad!
Dave is super amazing and this all makes sense. If there's one thing I learned from TH-cam and the explosion of information that is the internet, it's that the entire music world ran for decades on the backs of completely unsung heroes. Session musicians, men of class like Dave, and who knows how many who we don't even know about.
We fucking adore you dave, we're hurt at the state of slayer right now, but we're much happier you're happier, seeing you play in all your favourite bands just having a great fucking time is inspiring, everything a musician should be. Legend.
I'm not a Slayer fan, don't go to their shows, and Kerry KIng's beard doesn't scare me,but I tuned in to hear someone be frank about the music business. I really enjoyed the honesty. Thanks Dave.
thanks for posting this , this is the real deal. they need to pay his ass and keep him! he has without a doubt the most physically demanding job in the band
I saw Dave years ago in clinic and was amazed by his super consistent power at all dynamics. Such an unbelievable ability to effortlessly swing for the fences with every stroke, always with metal musicality. I wish him nothing but the best.
I grew up in the analog age. I heard Slayer on a copied cassette and did not know who they were because rarely anyone wrote info down on bands or songs on traded tapes. No radio or TV show would put them on. Few stores anywhere sold them on vinyl or cassette. Most "Metal magazines" shunned them. To this day on ozzys boneyard they only play Seasons in the Abyss. It's a great song, and was a great tour, (Clash of the Titans.), but how about some other stuff? I heard Chemical Warfare, Show no Mercy, Black Magic, and Die by the Sword. I quickly learned who they were. In my opinion, Dave Lombardo is the best drummer in the world. He was the first to do that kind of timing; 3/4, 5/4, 7/8, Drop beat and 4/4 at any speed. What a metronome head. People say words to the most extreme and they lose meaning, but watching Dave live, and I have several times, is awesome. jaw dropping in awe. Iron Maiden will always be my favorite, because I was a teen in the 80s and they captured me young. Not to mention all the killer first time ideas, artwork, stage shows, and super great albums they still make. Slayer is my 2nd favorite and that is that. My third favorite band; Overkill, also gets no love and they should because they are super great. Suicidal I love and is my 5th favorite after earlier Megadeth and have been from Join the Army. I saw them open for Queensreich in Kzoo, Michigan. Lights, Camera, Revolution, which is some of their best work. Rocky George is an awesome guitar player. I was right up front after the pit for a while, and I watched him amazed. So is Kurt Hammond, Jeff Hanneman, Kerry King, Gary Holt, Dave Mustaine, James Hetfield, Merritt Gant, Bobby Gustafson, Dave Linsk, Derek "The Skull Killer" Tailer, Chris Poland, and so many others. I can go on and on. This was the age where everything on guitar, bass, and drums that was humanly possible was done. I'm happy I was there.
Spoodermen Produktionz so, one way or another, celebrity net worth puts Dave's net worth at like $10 million. dunno how reliable that is, but if so... i hear he's working with Suicidal now, and rumor has it he's the drummer for the Misfits/Danzig reunion.
$67 000 dollars for playing 90 shows in a year...wtf!! What bullshit management has Slayer got? And why are the other band members getting more? Dave contributes more drum work in one song than Kerry King contributes in one album. That's fucked up. I'm glad you quit, Dave. I would've left years ago. As long as you have a couple million in the bank, then there's nothing wrong with retiring early.
Kyle Batteson Here's the things wrong with your opinion. -Kerry King has been with the band since the beginning -Kerry King wrote songs -Dave left the band three times -Dave didn't do any song writing -Kerry and Dave nearly have the same exact net worth Do you get what I'm saying? Kerry made 114k that year and he was with the band since the beginning and Dave made 67k before leaving for the third time. And here he is complaining over it. It's called fucking hindsight. If you wanted to be paid equally, you shouldn't have left three times and bitched so much. Hell, I bet Bostaph and Holt gets paid less than him and they don't give a shit.
***** I think Dave was right to leave the band as he did. In the past, there were differences of opinion. Dave is a phenomenal drummer and contributes a lot of sweat and performance to live shows and to the music. He deserves to be paid more. I would pay him more. Heck I'm sure he'd be paid more joining Metallica. That I'd love to see, if Lars decides to retires. Dave knows how to play the drum parts right without going overboard. BTW. Writing drum parts for a song is writing and contributing music for the band.
When Dave left the band in 1992 that's when Slayer went to shit. I don't think that's a coincidence at all. Dave is an incredible drummer, and as soon as they lost him they couldn't maintain the energy or aggressiveness in their music that his drumming gave them.
Paul Bostaph is a good drummer but he was much better in Forbidden. Dave leaving Slayer just left a huge void that couldn't be filled. In fact, I'd say he was the best musician in the band.
Kerry King couldn't get a dog to bark at him when he left slayer. Nobody was interested in bringing him in, he said so himself. Dave Lombardo is universally revered by his peers and has a line of world class musicians lining up to have him drum for them to this day. Look at his media. Constantly meeting new musicians with a smile beaming across his face.
Btw it’s shocking how little integrity Slayer has. For a band that was leaning heavy on drums and also pictured itself as having a moral high ground in corporate / war torn world they sure didn’t keep the same integrity in their personal life. You can say all you want about Metallica but at least they did the business right and kept integrity through the most part.
Exactly. how many people have *QUIT* or been sacked from Metallica ? Just 2. In Forty Years. Dave was sacked and Jason quit. How many people have been in Megadeth in 40 years ??? Says a lot about Lars and Mustaine.
@@DavidOakesMusic Doesn't help that half the guys Dave found were on the H or something other. Still a big problem today even. And then that news about Junior Dave recently... Ugh.
@@flandyc4513 dave mustaine is a total prick say's nick menza and the reason he was kicked out of the band was for a silly gesture of throwing away picks instead of drum sticks because nick says he doesn't want to hurt people by throwing his drum sticks. but dave mustaine took it personally because he allegedly told nick that since he was the guitarist its his job to throw picks not nick's. it got down to a better quarrel and then boom. nick got kicked out of the band unannounced.
Interesting. This paints an interpretation that Kerry is too stupid to see he's getting rooked. The swift and decided reaction to boot Dave hints otherwise. Either Kerry is A) getting something off the books or B) is loyal to the management outfit and leaves the monies to them. I tend to think A. because if it were hurting him, he'd act swiftly. But, yes Dave's comments highlight how the music industry destroys music. When it becomes more of a business and consumable product rather than an art people consume - these things happen.
Im a double amputee drummer. A long time ago there was a tour called clash of the titans. Slayer megadeth anthrax alice in chains. Well i got a backstage pass. So i wheel backstage. Hung with layne stayley forever. Man he was a cool guy. And went to meet slayer n megadeth. I got told to fuck off from kerry king. Hes a prick. Well dave came out. Took time to hang with a fellow drummer. He Went n got my shirt signed by the pricks in megadeth n slayer for me since they all treated a disabled fan like that. Props to u dave. Thank u for taking time to inspire and talk drums with a disabled drummer.
Slayer used to slay millions of people with their raw sound, now their voices are being slayed by the management companies. I didn't know I was rooting for $layer
Slayer failed to understand how many kids came to them in the 80s because of Dave's drumming. It was the heart of their aggressive style.
He was probably the most talented member in slayer
Slayer was Jeff, Dave, Tom, and Kerry; in that order. To me :)
Brian Phillips no one wanted Kerry King’s sloppiness. It should have been him not Hanenman
I was a Slayer fan with "Reign in Blood" but became a huge Dave Lombardo fan when "South of Heaven" came out. Between those drums, thick riffs, and Rick Rubin's ahead-of-its-time production . . . perfection.
For anybody wondering $67'000 ÷ by 90 is $744 a show, for a player of Dave's stature that's just completely insulting.
Does it mean that it costs only 4 * 744 = $2976 to hire a Slayer for a pool party?
No, Tom and Kerry made about $1267 per show, so a bit more.
Christopher Bell maybe Kerry doesn't value dave the way the fans do
Christopher Bell Thanks. I was just about to go to my calculator. He should have been an equal share holder if you ask me. His style was unique and contributed greatly to the classic Slayer sound.
Edward Hurlburt That’s fuking hillarious dude !!!🤪🤟🏻
I don't blame Dave! 67k a year is a slap in the face for someone with his experience and talent.
I make more than that and I sux at most everything. I think I will become an accountant for Slayer and make a couple million.
That was his base though. I'm sure he was paid for public appearances and concerts.
baax you know just cause someone is awesome at one thing,i.e. writing fantastic metal music, that doesn't mean he is also all around smart.
baax You know what's funny, I'm willing to bet Paul Bostaph is either getting paid the same rate or even less and he doesn't give a flying fuck.
Agreed! 67k per year is not shit. I make way more than him and I have a regular job. 250k per year minimum for Daves work. Watch, Dave will return and when he does, Slayers popularity will skyrocket.
@Fusion72 are you upset by what I said?
I glad Dave did what he did. Fuck getting shitted on by someone who isn’t even in the band. Life is full of stress , Never smoke it!
That's insane! A lot of wedding musicians could earn that money in a year. This guy is world famous and one of the best at what he does.
Slayer is the big losers in that fight. Dave lost Money, but Slayer lost Dave.
Denmark_1974 ......and got a way better drummer.
@@caseyplooy1696 Bostaph is a great drummer. But Better than Dave? Hell no!!!

That’s why he left
You guys are gey😅
Seems like the drummer always gets the shaft. Dave is one of my fave drummers. His style helped make SLAYER what it was. Nothing against Bostaph but I always thought Dave fit SLAYER better.
No matter what lombardo, you're are the reason slayer became SLAYER!!! And regardless what many might say, once you left,so did slayer.. and never was the same ,never!!! You forever will be one of the GREATEST drummers to hit the scene...thanks dave lombardo! Thank you.
Slayer died with Jeff Hanneman, and Slayer is not Slayer without Dave Lombardo either, Period!
Amen brother
true that........
Absolutely agree. It was the formula of the original four, that was the true essence of Slayer.
Just like Cliff Burton was the backbone of Metallica.
88Erwache Wrong. Paul Bostaph is twice the drummer Dave was. And Jeff.....well that’s just an unfortunate loss of a legend. R.I.P. Jeff.
@@caseyplooy1696 fanboy much?
Just by listening to this, I can easily say that Lombardo is the guy who can really have a sensible conversation with you.
Absolutely! He's such an approachable guy and doesn't treat people like strangers. If you're cool, he's cool back! Met him backstage at 2 different OG Misfits shows. Such a humble dude.
Lets for a moment forget about his work as a drummer. These are brave words from an honest man! Respect!
Jake E. Lee is really underrated guitar player - in rock history and in Ozzy career ((
He is one of my favorite rock guitar players. And favorite Ozzy guitar player.
A lot of people got screwed over by Ozzy and Sharon...
Thanks for the truth david always is the best. I played drums for 55 years I’m retired now but watching you put out all that energy for $67,000 is such a joke God bless you man you’re a hard-working drummer wonderful talent with loads of heart
He is the best metal drummer of all time.
***** it may seem as a harsh statement but ulrich (in my opinion) is a disappointment and an embarrassment to the metal scene.
***** Hell yeah! Mickey Dee was badass with his work in the first three albums of King Diamond!
Bob Grey I hear ya bo Mikkey dee is the man .he has is own unique style 'but still wonder why he went on with dokken .Big change from diamond
it's kinda depressing that they were best friends for 30 years but they got broken up over money.
***** I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there was more to it then money. I hope they do get back together
Green Man you never know. Hell has frozen over before with these guys. I do like them with Dave better. It's what I grew up on. Bostaph and Dette are awesome in their own right, but there is only one Lombardo.
***** yeah, a guy like him just can't be replicated
I think it's more about money. It's like, for 30 years, there were people ripping you off and your friends didn't give a fuck about it. It's money but not entirely....
$744.44 per show (67000 divided by 90) for the worlds best drummer.

Dave's a class act and one of the best drummers of all time.
Definitely one of my favorite influences as a drummer myself.
Dave is not only in incredible and influential drummer but a inspirational person too , he deserved so much more ..
But even their money was an insult considering what Band we are talking about.
If you respect yourself, you wouldn’t let an outsider of the band come in and rip you off dirty. Lawyers and some managers are leeches
@@gonedeep43that’s what I was thinking. They play arenas but still only make $100k a year.
Amazing
aaronrus ya thats true and pauls a great drummer
Truth
looks like nobody's safe from getting fucked by someone in Hollywood. Chicago cop pay 78K even more after you factor in OT!!
Slayer would never have gotten as far as they did without Dave. He is so important to their sound during their golden age.
Dave Lombardo is one of most influential metal drummers of all time. Good for him he leaves Slayer!
he didn't leave slayer, he left from some $layer.
@monokhem WAT?
@monokhem Lars can't play 1% of Dave's parts ;)
TheWitchOvAgnesi paul was great in forbidden
Respect for Dave as a musician and as a person. You can really tell from his voice what a sincere and genuine person he really is.
He's getting screwed by the bassist/vocalist and the guitarist with the beard. He should walk out in the middle of a big show so they can see how it feels to work for nothing

Dave Lombardo. will always be my absolute all time favorite drummer
Dave seems like a truly, genuine great guy. A big heart, no doubt. A legendary drummer!
I'm so on team lombardo in this whole slayer thing!
Ever since he's out - slayer is history. Same story with portnoy and dream theater.
these two guys are just so necessary for the sound of what their bands have been known for.
"To this day, the only Slayer songs people want to hear are from the first 5 albums that Lombardo played on."
Yep, that pretty much sums it up.
Dave's the kind of guy that's so obviously sincere and humble that you just know that he's in the right
Dave Lombardo is the greatest drummer in metal music. I rank him right up there with neal peart. I would like him to start a kickass band.
Ugh, sickening feeling.
makeithurtful this is how i feel about the deak kenneyds/:
The same could be said of all political parties and most politicians, ect. Its all a con.
Same, same..
That's about $745 per gig, for Dave. Wow, what a shame. The guy basically pioneered a style of drumming that is still huge today. He is an original member of Slayer. This is how he gets treated? He should call the cops. Are Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley his managers?
Thats a mere $250 more than I make,....playing shitty covers, in front of 20,000 less people.
Just fucking fucked up!
You mean he only got paid 745 a gig after all those years he should have been paid some where in the amount of over 5.000 / maybe 10.000.......
Wow here in the Philippines the average musician gets paid $10 to play 40 songs a night. And it is very frustrating that even singers who bust their vocal chords off earn just as much. I wonder when we can even get somewhere a quarter of that.
Ask Lars what he should make...he knows...
@@danox2676 Lars probably makes million a show maybe more.

Much respect for Dave Lombardo. The best metal drummer
Thanks Dave for all you did in and for Slayer. You are definitely a master of your craft.
Ahh, the wonderful world of the music biz!
yeah, Lombardo has a fantastic style. He is an organic force, where most drummers in this arena are like the Borg.
The man has style!
no shit...kk is the king in slayer...and nobody could ask a king for internal audit...
The fact is that Dave has more credibility than Slayer now. This was Slayers loss, not Daves.
It seems Tom would like to quit and doesn't get on with KK but if they let Holt contribute and give proper member status, I think Slayer could put out a BRUTAL album.
dkyelak Yeah, I definitely get the impression Tom is tired and continuing for kings sake.
Eye opening. Much more intelligent than I thought he was. Seems like a genuine guy.
Greatest legendary metal drummer of all Time!! Lombardo is the KING!
Dave is such a great guy...Hard to believe how the best drummer in the world is treated.
That was THE most open, honest, and clearly articulated thing I've ever heard from a legendary musician...Hands down...Period!
It sounds as though Tom and Kerry "Peter Crissed" Dave. Trying to make him an employee instead of an actual part of the band when it came to finances. These guys should have been very wealthy by now just from touring.
Peter Criss was paid much more than Lombardo, and a dollar was too much for Criss' ability.
More like how "Ace Frehley'd"Peter.plus Tom is a friggin douchebag.
this guy's a legend. learned how lo play listening to this guy from hell awaits through to seasons in the abyss. . . . this guy left some of the most hair raising difficult and imaginative chops to the everlasting cloud.
I refused to see slayer ever again without Dave. Glad I could see the original slayer! Thank you for the video.

always some unknown saying they make more than the guy in slayer. uh huh..
What band you in?!
@ I don't disagree with that but he said he makes 3× that, "playing gigs in clubs".
I believe Dave! He's humble and you can tell he's truthful! God bless him!

$67,000 / 90 shows = $744 per show. WOW.
I still don't know how the lived with that for years
+Spoodermen Produktionz they*
i think that's more than you or i'll ever make for 2 hours work.
Cheetah Chrome yeah but for all the expensive gear incluiding hotels and everything else they have, that's nothing
Spoodermen Produktionz so, one way or another, celebrity net worth puts Dave's net worth at like $10 million. dunno how reliable that is, but if so... i hear he's working with Suicidal now, and rumor has it he's the drummer for the Misfits/Danzig reunion.
Dave Lombardo influenced me to learn the drums. That's priceless to me but damn this guy is a legend
He should have been on the last tour, sadly missed.
Best drummer I've ever heard. Appreciate your style enjoy your time bro
That was the best video I have ever seen a truly amazing honest man!!!
That is a very good business lecture.
-Kerry King has been with the band since the beginning
-Kerry King wrote songs
-Dave left the band three times
-Dave didn't do any song writing
-Kerry and Dave nearly have the same exact net worth
Do you get what I'm saying?
Kyle Batteson I think Dave should go back to Slayer and Paul should replace Lars. I feel as though Metallica would be so much better with him.
***** Metallica did a show recently in Las Vegas and Lars put on a great performance.
Kyle Batteson Lars is a generic, boring drummer. There's nothing he plays that a first year drum student couldn't play.
When Dave left the band in 1992 that's when Slayer went to shit. I don't think that's a coincidence at all. Dave is an incredible drummer, and as soon as they lost him they couldn't maintain the energy or aggressiveness in their music that his drumming gave them.
Yup.
Paul Bostaph is a good drummer but he was much better in Forbidden. Dave leaving Slayer just left a huge void that couldn't be filled. In fact, I'd say he was the best musician in the band.
Dave seems like a really easy going down to earth dude!! Great guy man!
Ugh.
The best comment of this video, totally agree with the Metallica thing!!
Metallica aren't perfect(Some Kind of Monster, etc.) but they have much better band stability than the rest of the Big Four.
Dave was getting screwed. They make that in T-shirt sales, let alone royalties and gig fees.
Fucking Dave man, one of the best! Come back to Tucson
Seems like the coolest dude. Love his work in Slayer so much. Missed him in the recent Misfits show. Hope to see him live some time.
Damn. There goes pretty much all my respect for the Slayer guys.
Suddenly Dave seems like the coolest one
Or "Sellyer"
Thanks for sharing, Dave did the right thing as he should..
Dave made some killer slayer records!👊👽
