    Introducing Lotus’s first SUV - the Eletre!
    That’s right, the world-renowned sports car company is following up on the unveiling of the all-electric two-door Emira last year with this - its first-ever SUV!
    So this may not be the final production model, but it still show-off more than enough of what the final car will look like, with a seemingly Urus-inspired front through to a sloped rear-end and full-length light bar at the back!
    Take a step inside, and you’ll be treated to a pretty futuristic interior, with a minimalistic design that features a huge infotainment screen on the dash. The Eletre will be available as a four or five-seater, and should you choose the former, rear passengers will be treated to their own reclinable seat along with a central arm rest that includes a screen to control the infotainment.
    It’s set to cost from around £100,000, which is closing in on Model X Plaid territory! But then again, the Eletre will have a top speed that can rival the Model X, while its two electric motors will be good for 600hp+ while also thrusting it to 60mph in under 3 seconds!
    So what do you think - will this be the must-have electric SUV of the future? Stick with Mat to see for yourself!

      @@masterImac Of course. But that's with anything in life. Are you an Android or an iOS user? Isn't choosing 'proven' brands to 'lesser-known' brands and not giving them a chance a bias in itself? Not choosing UK cars as them being viewed as bad investments is just something people have come to over the years particularly in the middle class segment (sales figures tells everything). But is it valid for very expensive supercars? With price tags as these and with reliability records that necessarily aren't any worse than German's or Italian's, I don't see why you wouldn't consider a Lotus. They make fantastic cars. It's just a bias towards Porsche or Ferrari then, the brand's reputation being the only criteria without evaluating what the manufacturers offers for the price. It's all about preferences and preferences aren't reasonable or objective. It all cancels out at the end.

      Lotus or Chinese Geely? China are slowly hollowing out western companies and jobs. They cannot get traction with their own brands so they use western brands against us. This hollowing out will eventually empty out every single sector as they move all industries in house to China. Lotus knowledge will be sucked out and moved to China. The staff in the UK will be used and tossed aside. By buying a Chinese car, unlike any other purchase, you are directly supporting a Chinese Communist Party owned company. All car companies in China are directly or indirectly owned by the CCP. You are supporting CCP design, technology, and engineering. China are a self proclaimed enemy of western democracy and free people, that may sound like hyperbole but it is manifestly true. They are a communist/totalitarian regime. Partnership is not a part of their thinking process. It is the cover they use to slowly dismember western economies. They do not want partnership they want control and ownership. This is and will increasingly bleed in to political control and eventually erosion of western freedoms. China simply cannot allow freedom of thought or speech, it is not only antithetical but an existential threat to their regime. They need to extinguish freedom in as many places as possible. It is an innate need for all empires/civilisations to spread their model.
      We are walking ourselves in to totalitarian control. If you think it seems too far fetched then you need to think deeper and harder. If you think this process will be benign, you are wrong. China will slowly tighten their grip on democracy, it is already starting to happen, they constantly require other nations to limit their speech. On the current course, in the not too distant future, your government will be controlled by China, directly or indirectly, you will not be allowed to change your government, and your government will impose every single decision handed down by China. You will not be able to protest or question these decisions. You and your children will grow up without any freedom for the rest of your/their lives.
      As one example China forcibly sterilised and aborted their own women in the 80's, dragged them in to horrific surgeries, now the Uyghurs are being subjected to the same treatment.

    Regarding the bottom grille, I've noticed EVs have funny looking front ends because they don't have vents and grilles and stuff. I get it, no engine to cool, but having solid/closed vents instead of open airways - doesn't this increase drag? Wouldn't allowing more air to pass through help?

    • @OldSkoolFlavor
      @OldSkoolFlavor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Matt did mention it actually opens to help cool the battery :) at around the 1:54 - 1:57 mark, unless of course you are saying this is a nice change as EV's go :)

      it depend : on the shape of the solid vents and how air flow through a real one. For exemple high speed trains don't have vents but are more aerodynamics than a sport car. On the other hand, classic cars like the 1970 dodge charger are not aero' bcz of their massive front grille which has the effect of a parachute.

    i think lotus is doing the right thing. the electric vehicle market is up for grabs and if they cand get a decent range (250 miles real world usage) out of their models they can slice quite a good size out of it. and the design of their cars is really good. after seeing the emira and evija and now this, can't wait to see the smaller suv and the saloon. and even better, they don't seem to have followed the trend of filling the car with shiny glossy materials and touch buttons. well done lotus!

      Tesla is the only brand to continue to knock all of the electric competition out of the park. And it’s not even close in terms of charger network, UI and the best infotainment system in the industry, performance and speed, and exterior and interior looks. The rest of the competition is a joke aside from the Mustang Mach E and the electric hummer that come close

    • @Thistasteslikeass
      @Thistasteslikeass 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johnsmeith3913 This, being a lotus - will undoubtedly handle better than a tesla, and a sub 3 second time makes it a direct competitor in terms of performance (don't think they do one foot roll out either lmao) the infotainment wasn't really shown here as its probably still being developed so its hard to critique that? But from what I saw, it looks brilliant - especially those smaller strip screens, they're a nice touch. The Tesla infotainment is 'nice' with the big screens and so on n games etc but they've relegated everything to the screen now which a lot of people don't like, such as foward/reverse. Almost like putting shit on the screen for the sake of putting shit on the screen. And don't get me started on the wheel controls and the wheel itself, that wheel is practical in racing where you can do lock to lock in 1 and a bit turns - not in a bloody road car though. Exterior and interior looks are completely subjective as well, I much prefer the styling on this car over the teslas, yeah they look nice, but they also look outdated by now, especially the rear light design. Build quality on tesla is slowly catching up but I suspect this will be superior in that department.

    I really like that design, really sleek and low, its looks a bit like a wagon jacked up. Indeed, only 13cm taller than an RS6. The interior is amazing, I like the slim driver display, you don't have to peer around the steering wheel as in some cars I have experienced. I think the rotating screen is there for the same reason as the new Mercedes SL. It's so that no matter the position of the sun, you can see the screen. All Eletre needs is a smaller battery version to make it even lighter. I think more traditional Lotus customers would happily trade a bit of range for driving dynamics. They can keep the 100kwh version for buyers who like more range. Also, i expected everyone to kick off big time and this would be hugely controversial, but the reaction I see so far is surprisingly posititve.

Bigger the wheels the less efficient although people don't seem to think that this is important these days until they want to go on a road trip!! I wonder where people will charge it?
