James May's first look at the 2000hp Lotus Evija

- James May loves looking into the future of the automotive landscape, and he did just that through a day with the stunning Lotus Evija hypercar.
2000hp, £2 million and all the EV geekery you could possibly hope for. Take it away, Mr May...

Imagine James Bond making a getaway but having to wait for the door 😂
I can imagine Bond and the bad guys waiting then looking at each other and saying 'pub?'
Steve: before we get started, does anybody wanna get out ?
Did someone call my name
Naa Yeah , you just beef up the range of the key fob!
Battery is kinda big!
An the antenna is cumbersome.. but
Robert Downey should do a walkthrough on this car XD
I love that they didn't edit out the door speed, they just let it run all slow and awkward. So appropriate.
And the ow at the end 😭😂
Why would they? It's a prototype. At least they put *A* motor in it, rather than leave it to be manually operated like most things Lotus !
the video would be just a couple of minutes then 😂
You get the time back when you hit the gas... I mean, the pedal...
No, the door speed is set specificlly for James May, just to match his style.
This car can literally reach its top speed and stop faster than it's door can open 😂
Both together, of seperately?
James and this Evija are perfect together
Honestly, James May is quietly one of the funniest people on "TV". His dead pan delivery is borderline genius.
He is great. He is probably my favourite out of the trio.
Is this the comment that was reviewed on a recent video?
These solo vids with James made me realize how big his personality really is. I'm just used to Clarkson dominating every convo
You're right! When I watched his Japan Series on Amazon I felt that.
James: *tells Japanese robot to call him Jim*
Japanese Robot: “Bim!”, “Hey, Bim!”
james may is great i recomend watching some of his other shows
I recommend the Grand Tour to you. Than you will get to know may even better
@@DjangoUnSkilled I'd recommend you to watch this th-cam.com/video/tiAQ6ul-Wew/w-d-xo.html
That door's speed on what is said to be one of the fastest cars ever made is about as British comedy as you can get.
Hahaha
I feel like this could have been a scene in an Austin Powers movie.
Lotus: "We're happy for you to drive over 200mph...but we don't want you getting caught in / injured by the doors..."
It's probably for safety reasons. At the moment it's actuated hydraulically so there would be no safety precautions to make sure you won't get stuck. It's a prototype after all.
I am almost certain it was designed like that deliberately XD
"it's a bit slow, and that's saying as someone who's called Captain Slow."....😆
That line was so underrated, I have a feeling a lot of the viewers are unfamiliar with James
Or Mr. Slowy in Italy 🤣
@@chillydavis2117 how is that possible to be unfamiliar with James and Top Gear but to be subscribed on DriveTribe
that's the most burnout this car will ever get lol
The rear end of this car is truly something else. So much fun to look at
I agree! I’ve never seen anything like it.
🤨
Yeah, and while the door is opening you'll have enough time to look at it
Much like my wife
James May is a master observer. He puts into words what we all feel, but cannot crystallize in our minds.

This is a scripted show. He may be speaking the words but the words are not his.
This is shot, edited, and delivered almost exactly like an old Top Gear segment. Perfection.
...with people shouting at the back and a lot of rustling noise from his clothes.
just without those over-edited awesome car montages in the beginning

Was it the same Director?
This car on a race with a LeMans style start would be something.
It will be a laughing stock when the driver awkwardly waiting the door, then smashes everyone in the end anyways
My thoughts exactly
What would it be called, the 24 minutes of LeMans?
@@KPX-nl4nt XD
@@KPX-nl4nt Yep, I don’t think the batteries have a chance against 2000hp of electric motors. The rest of the 24 hours will be the recharging ;)
PS: I know fast chargers are quicker than that now days but the point still stands that this may well spend more time on the charger than moving.
I hope James May isn’t claustrophobic: It’ll be a while before he’s released.
He’s still inside
Some say the door is still opening to this day
May: I can't drive it because it's a prototype
Lotus: Shhh...we just said that because we thought Hammond was coming

Does that mean he won't be crashing it then?
