We found a Lorikeet in our yard. 3 months ago. Wild. Had a broken leg and a plastic ring around its head and one wing. Taxi to several vets and had surgery to put a small rod into the leg, antibiotics and then removal of pin. Caged for this period. which was 3 months ago. Now we have a lovely happy friend who jumps about, startinh to talk, and sits on my head and shoulder all day. I wear my "statue"shirt - gets covered in poop....but she is adorable. These Lorikeets are just very friendly and funny little birds, who love contact. She is too humanised for release now after the vet surgery and recovery. But I look forwards every day to come home and see her.
Hi - we had to feed antibiotics twice daily for weeks - got bitten as she was scared and wild (about 4 months judging her beak), but then she was OK - after 4-6 months she lay on her back and played. After 8 months very confident. Starting to talk better after 12 months. As I type she was on my wrist, now on my knee. Lovely - could do practically anything with her after 6 weeks except on her back - that took a bit more time
