@Destiny i believe this bird is at least 14 years old. So I doubt they got it from a breeder like this. Plus, breeders should not be treating their animals like that. I got my lorikeet from a breeder before she even learned how to fly. It would be detrimental if they clipped a bird's wings before they learn how to fly

He or she is a cross between a Rainbow and a Red Collared Lorri. If you look at the underbelly you can see a difference in the two colours where a Rainbow has a mattering of colour on the chest, also around the collar is not all green, again a mattering of red. The two birds come from different parts of Australia and are seperated by by a massive dessert , this stops inter breeding, but if kept together they will breed. I've breed all Australian Lorries for years and hand rear them for pets. They really good pets but very messy.

Definitely Rainbow Lorikeet. A Rosella, while similar, is a lot noiser, larger and tends to be predominately Red with a striking blue tail if you're looking at a Crimson Rosella, while an Eastern Rosella will have yellow belly and a red hood on the head with a a more muted green colouring on the tail.Both Rosellas are also noted to be a lot less friendly with human contact in general.
Nice bird!.. Wish your vids weren't glitchy though. on the commenting of flighted vs. not flighted... our birds to are flighted, first out of preference for their recreation. We let them fly indoors at least. Obviously, can't take them outside, as we don't have an outdoor aviary yet, but the biggest reason to leave a bird flighted is their heart. Birds that fly will have a stronger heart muscle as flying is a vigorous activity. For people who take flighted birds outside, better have a leash!
There is a huge difference, if you break your leg, you feel it. If properly cut, birds don't actually feel their wings being clipped. It's like clipping your fingernails.

Come to Sydney Australia. They are everywhere - we get 15-20 of them on our balcony every morning. Do a TH-cam search for "lorikeets sydney" and you'll find lots of clips.

we clip birds wing so they dont fly into a window or some foreign objects and break bone, there are countless birds that have done so. inless they have a large aviary, you should clip the wings.
It's different from bird to bird, but my Amazon prefers not to fly. Amazons are dumpy birds with short wings and it takes an enormous amount of energy for them to fly. He walks everywhere he goes and only flies if something startles him. Right now he has all his wing feathers and it's actually dangerous. He could hit a window or something else at full speed. For safety, he needs just enough lift to keep him from landing hard. I tried to get him to fly when he turned 20. He was too lazy. :D

I don't want to have a go at the dude posting this video. I also have a Rainbow Lorikeet. I've not clipped its wings. I have had a few birds in the past and it's always an open door policy. In that they have a cage but it's always open, they come and go as they please. I just couldn't clip the little fella's wings. It makes me happy knowing that although he's a bird and not out in the wild, at least he's has the ability to fly around the house unrestricted and he really enjoys that.
