@@EmilyMcVicker Nothing in particular BUT it has pretty good Vocal Presets that are ready to go [on the fly]. These presets add great variety to a somewhat mundane reverb sound AND you can tweak them if needed]. As a lead vocalist I sometimes find myself stuck looking for that different vocal sound. This machine does that for me. Quick, Easy to find and adds some nice variety without going to extreme's. The audio quality is SO GOOD in that, the sound you create [from the machine] is actually the same sound that goes out - LIVE. No tweaking or adjustments needed. Just GO! Boom chuck-a-lucka - boom - chucka-lucka 🤣🤣

I've been tinkering with the footswitch (the FA-GC) and the Gigcaster over the weekend, going into depth with the parameters the footswitch can access and if someone wanted to use this as a 'backing track playback' machine this is what I've learned.
You get a bit more functionality if you don't use the 'PAD LINK' function.
As the footswitch pedals can access many more 'A' functions than 'B-D' functions, what I wanted to do (namely, start tracks with the footswitch and turn the EFX on and off between tracks) can be achieved but with a reduced number of tracks. Since the GA-FC has 6 buttons I can access 32 tracks via 4 buttons and with a simple changeover of parameters can access the other 32 tracks which could be changed between sets. This is fine for what I want.
So by setting the FA-GC to 'PAD LINK' off, you can set the individual GROUPS.
Choose 'PEDAL 1' icon. Then select GROUP 'A' and set the CATEGORY to CH 2 and set the FUNCTION to 'EFFECT ON / OFF'. Then select GROUP 'B' and set the CATEGORY to 'SOUND PAD' and the FUNCTION to 'SOUND PAD 1'. With this setting, when you press PEDAL 1, you either start the track on SOUND PAD 1 and turn the EFX on CH2 ON, or pressing again stops the track and turns the EFX off. You rinse and repeat for the other three PEDALS (2-4) altering just the 'B' Group FUNCTION setting to SOUND PAD 2, SOUND PAD 3, or SOUND PAD 4.
To change the BANKS of SOUNDPADS choose PEDAL 5, GROUP 'A' and set it to 'SOUND BANK UP'. This way, every time you press PEDAL 5 the SOUND PADS ascend to the next bank. A cool trick then is to hold PEDAL 5 down and it ascends to the last BANK (8), from which you can press single presses to access a particular BANK (say 5 presses to go to BANK 5). With a TRACK SHEET laid at the foot of the pedalboard, I can navigate to any of the 32 tracks on BANKS 1-8 on SOUND PADS 1-4. Likewise with a simple tweak (changing the 'B' Group FUNCTION in each PEDAL to SOUND PAD 5-8), the pedalboard can then navigate to the 32 tracks on SOUND PADS 5-8 through the BANKS 1-8.
I've made a tracksheet as follows, where my SOUND PADS in each BANK all correspond to the same colour. PAD 1 = WHITE, PAD 2 = RED, PAD 3 = YELLOW, PAD 4 = GREEN, PAD 5 = ORANGE, PAD 6 = BLUE, PAD 7 = PURPLE, PAD 8 = PINK
The NUMBER at the top is the PEDAL NUMBER and the number at the sides are the BANK:
Changing the FUNCTION to SOUND PAD 5-8 you can then access the other 32 tracks, This suits our setup as I perform original tracks while my wife who is a classically trained soprano, performs covers.
I hope that lot makes sense. I will do a TH-cam video when I get the time...and that's not even mentioning the jaw-dropping EFX on this thing which makes a live sound so easy to achieve.

You've got all of Boss/Roland's amp modeling, effects, and EQ. When you change these 3 settings on the mixer, it changes the input on Windows. Curious which of these 3 you are rolling with. It seems similar to the Zoom L8. But you make everything sound good. Even if it was a piece of crap (which I am not saying it is), but if it was you would make it sound good because of your talent. On the flip side there are good pieces of gear that sound like crap because the artist is playing out of time or singing flat & sharp throughout.

    • @EmilyMcVicker
      @EmilyMcVicker  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Totally. And there are a few companies that make similar style mixers as this. And they all have their differences, and I might recommend different ones for different purposes. But what I liked about this one, is the size, the ease of use, and the musical effects that are included on the channel strips. But like I say, in the video, if this were my only machine, it would not be enough for me. But since I have one, it’s nice to have on hand, if I do travel. It could be a good starter, live stream mixer for someone, or in my case a great secondary set up

Has anybody found a PowerBank that can power the Gigcaster 8 from the USB-C port as claimed by Boss? All the ones I've tried instigate the machine to come up with a 'power insufficient, please use the supplied power adaptor'.

Any power greater than 20 watts. The cable must also support such power.

    Giga expensive too. Pass.

Little pricey. Totally. It only makes sense if you use the features because it can reduce the amount of equipment you need. But as a small mixer it is expensive.

@@EmilyMcVicker Hah, I just found the "RØDE Caster Pro II" and it's basically the same device at the same price and now I don't know what to do. I think I'll just go lock myself in the basement until I stop wanting things. Goodbye surface dwellers!

What are you doing Emily? In comparison to the counterparts by Mackie and Rode, the Boss is inferior, but more costly. Take the tiny display, the missing connectivity, the designated inputs, the meager control possibilities. Especially for musicians, the Gigcaster is not a very good choice, as it is much too limiting.
Roland keeps on relying on their brand name. But it‘s not working for the faithful customers. The least you could do as a responsible reviewer is to be honest to your followers and point out the shortcomings of this piece of gear, that came in too late with too little that works for the hard working musician.

Hey man, this is the only one I’ve played with. Working on getting my hands on Mackie and Rhode versions. But they each have stuff I like and different stuff that I don’t like. I will make videos as I know more. But ur tone is kind of rude. I’m doing my best here, dude. I liked it. This is my honest take 🤷‍♀️ if you think you can do better, let’s hear it…

@@EmilyMcVicker Sorry, Emmily, there was no intention to be rude.
I‘ve worked for Roland for some time as a keyboard interface and sound designer. (The connection broke, when I started to work for Korg and Yamaha, too. 😁)
From that time I know a little of what is going on in the background. So, I‘m quite sure that not everybody at Roland is really happy with what was to be the Gigcaster Mark I.
It always depends on who has the last word: The designers seldomy do. The financial and the marketing departments mostly have the say. You want another non-dedicated input? Costs $3,95 in development and production? No way you‘ll get that through. That added feature would cost the consumer somewhat around $40 - so there‘s no way.
I‘m quite sure that you would view the Gigcaster a little more critical when you get to know the other solutions, where some departments didn‘t have those tight restraints. 🙂
I‘m looking forward to your reviews! 🎸✌️

I had one for nearly 10 days before decided to sale it... It's not something made for musician. The guitar and bass FX are really really bad, the vocal FX are poor quality... The build quality feel very cheap especially for a product of this price... There is no 'play' button to listen back to your recording you have to enter the 'sd card" menu to do so ... etc.... it's an expensive cheap quality gadet and I would not recomand it to anyone

Ah. Thanks for sharing your experience! Probably not for everybody. And sounds like not the best choice for you! What are you gonna get instead?
