Everybody during the Wii U era: This thing sucks, no good games Everybody now: Look at all these amazing games that nobody played because they were on the Wii U.
It's weird. I had a Wii U and at one point I was frustrated how underrated it was, but with the dearth of third party support coupled with the droughts of first party games I was disappointed in my purchase. There were good games, but I felt a lot of them felt unambitious, safe, or even lackluster. I think they are being appreciated more now because the switch ports are either much improved or are good supplemental titles between the big releases on Switch
Gotta consider how we've now gotten just about every decent Wii U game on Switch in three years, these games were spread among 5 years on the Wii U. Hard to get burnt out on games when a new one comes out almost twice as fast.
Not so much as there were absolutely no good games on the system... It was just a hard sell to buy an entire console for maybe 4 or 5 games you'll end up wanting to play for it. Though I can't really talk I suppose since I bought a Vita entirely for Persona 4 Golden and... own maybe two other games. I think generally speaking, if the expenses you have over your entire time with a console are largely the console itself... maybe not the best decision. At least, that's how I usually think of the Wii U.
@@Mr._Sherwood I see it as a combination of the games Hideki Kamiya directed, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Ōkami and Bayonetta, mixed in with some Pikmin, themed around super sentai/power rangers. It really feels like Kamiya and Platinum’s ultimate passion project.

You could argue that not having the WiiU gamepad controls is worse but from everyone I've seen whose familiar with it the analog stick worked better for it anyways
The final boss stands as my favourite final boss in any game, ever. Sure, even playing perfectly it can take you well over 40 minutes to beat, but the boss challenges every skill you've learned through the game, with harsh punishments if you've neglected some aspect. From the absurd setting, the comical-yet-deadly-serious reactions from the cast, to the near-constant ramping up of tension, to pitch-perfect music (seriously, even though the title of the song is a massive spoiler for what happens, have a listen to phase 3's track), and finally culminating in probably the best use of a button mash I've ever experienced. Also if you haven't, fail said button-mashing segment for one of the funniest moments in the game.
I'm so glad you mentioned the final QTE portion. It's the funniest thing in the game especially with how intense the stakes are in the final battle. EVERYONE MUST FAIL THAT PART! (Also I thought it was a drawing segment not the button mashing)
It's always great to see so much Wonderful 101 love. It was so suffering being the only guy in my group who loved the game while my friends absolutely loathed the game due to its overwhelming nature. I love this game so much it's what basically got me to create combo videos back in the days. The combat system is just so damn fun to tinker around with. Great video!

This game isn't really underrated. It's just because it was poorly sold (like the wii u too unfortunatly...) and it wasn't really promoted well at launch, beside obviously from the Nintendo direct before it came out. (But i am assuming, none of you here, remember or have seeing all of this, at that times?)

@@blockyoxwinkle5829 if you aren't super far out from your TV, I'd recommend HORI's wired controller (ie the one Vinny got for Tetris). He didn't mention it, but the last 2 or 3 hours of the campaign are just the most over-the-top thing Platinum has ever done. It's one of the best finales of any game I've played
This is the unpopular kid in high school who was a really cool guy that no one gave a chance, then he went on to do great things but still got ignored and disrespected by everyone. The remaster is bombing hard across the board. It’s sad, but this game is eternally niche.
Without saying any details, I will firmly die on the hill that TW101's ending is literally the single best ending ever. I mean yeah it's not like a huge amazing conclusion to a riviting story and seeing how the characters have grown of the course of the game or anything, but no words can truly describe such an epic way to finish a game.
Just hearing the title screen music gave me nostalgic chills. Loved this game! I really want the remaster, just don't wanna pay $40 on Steam for it, waiting 'till it goes on sale.
It's really hard not to love The Wonderful 101. It has so much charm and energy behind it. You can tell just by playing it that the developers had a great time making it.
I remember really wanting this game as a kid, due to the 3DS E-Shop having dozens of demos, and trailers for thing not on the console, and this game was one of them... and Rythem heavin fever for wii.
When this came out, I was very confused because I was under the impression that you played as 101 midget superheros. I believed this to be fact for atleast 2 years.
Resident Evil 4 was like that in regards to deaths. There was so much work put into all the ways Leon could die it then became a reason to play the game again.
As one of the few people who actually played the original version, I genuinely enjoyed it and was surprised to find out how little attention it actually got. The only reason I ever stopped playing it was because Wonder Pink said Fuck in one of the cutscenes and my parents didn’t want me playing it anymore.
The wonderful 101 was only immediately recognize by people who have an eye to recognize hidden gems, and the moment I saw this game I knew it was going to be something special. Here we are many years later and I have the remastered version and this game is perfect; even better than the viewtiful Joe games in my opinion.
Thanks for covering this game, dude! I was fortunate enough to have owned and played the original Wii U version, and I also donated to the remaster's Kickstarter!
Glad to see you doing a video on this. I hope Wonderful 101 gets its time to shine for sure! I do wish more things were adjusted overall in this "remastered" version but I'll take what I can get at this point.
My favourite game. I was hooked by the 7 minute long trailer and still enjoy rewatching it. I played the demo 18 times, learning the mechanics and "getting gud". I bought this game with Mario Kart 8 and played it over 10 times getting 101% completion. Even after all this, there are still moments when I pick up the game, breathe deeply, and am blown away by the stakes and character of this Wonderful game.
For anyone who hasn't seen this game before, and don't know how crazy and over the top it gets: I've seen people who watched the FIRST BOSS without context ask if it was the final boss. The game just keeps ramping up the awesome from there.
Man thank you so much for talking about this game, I have told so many people so many times that this is probably Platinum's best game they've made (besides Vanquish) that they NEED to play!
When I first played the original I was having so much fun until my cd got scratched and it wouldn’t work anymore. I gave up on buying another one, so I’m happy to get the remastered version
So glad to see a video on this glorious game. I loved it back in 2013, and I love it again on Switch. It may be a major casual filter, but dedicate enough time and it is (chef's kiss) Wonderful. I hope Nintendo and Platinum at least work on a spin-off. I'd be down for a Detective Wonder-Blue game.
Yeah, too bad the game flopped in sales no thanks to Nintendo barely giving it any televised advertising and limiting its advertising to online ads. The game is truly underrated as it is a good game that was sadly just the victim of poor management.
The only big thing I can think to complain about is why the hell they didnt add an option to rotate the screen 90 degrees in tabletop mode so you could place both screens on top of eachother instead on side by side.
I have a wonderful friend who keeps recommending this game to me, but alas, it's a genre that I'm not very keen on diving into. So, unfortunately, diplomacy has failed.
I actually got this game when it was initially released on the Wii U. And heres a fun little anecdote; while playing the final mission, busting ships like popping bubble wrap, the power cord died without warning. Almost like it was too intense for the console itself.
Cool seeing this get some attention. I also backed the Kickstarter, and while I'm having some difficulties getting used to the controls, I more or less expected that and intend to power through.
Hey, my Dude! You should really play the Yo-Kai Watch series. It’s also a quirky game with a small but dedicated fanbase that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves
I just finished the game and what can i say, what a crazy and fun game, in the beggining i was confused about the mechanics and wasn't liking it very much, but when i got the hang of it i started to really like it(sword best weapon, change my mind), specially the bosses and the dialogs, they are awesome, and i really like that the game changes the style of gameplay in some sections, but one thing that i really didn't liked was the gimmicky enemies, that you need to do something different to kill then properly, like the turtles, the spiky robots and the tiger ninja robots(i hate those), now i really want a sequel to see where the story will go from there (SPOILERS AHEAD) i really want to know more about the future where the humans are the bad guys, imagine now a story were the good past humans have to fight the bad future humans, it could be a good story for a sequel in my opinion, if done right of course, but i don't mind a story that have nothing to do with it, the story being good i will like it
The sword initially seemed the best for me as well, then realized that unless you're trying to hit multiple small enemies at once, the hand is usually better (higher damage output due to faster attacks). The turtles really seem annoying at first, but remember you can use other weapons to damage it other than the hammer when its shell is cracked or after you turn it on its back (after stunning it first, with Unite Guts). Regarding the tiger ninja robots, you're talking about the enemies in Operation 5, where you have to use the bomb to see them? They're not so bad once you get used to using the bomb only as a sub-weapon (making it with the upper face button, instead of the right one). Check out "How to Enjoy The Wonderful 101 ", by Matthewmatosis Extra If you want to learn about this stuff in more detail. AFAIK the spiky robots don't offer more flexible ways to remove their spikes so, yeah, fuck them, they're really unfun to deal with. And I agree that it's a little disappointing that they never bring out the point about the humans waging war with the galaxy in future again, in the ending. It would be a good setup for a sequel indeed!
Luka isn’t as bad a character as he is made out out to be if you consider the ramifications of his backstory and the details the wonderful ones exposit on how the Centinals operate. To protect the planetary defense shield and mother platinum they had to keep the highest level of security and secrecy. They erased Professor Margarita from history to protect their defense secrets and Luka had to suffer the consequences of those actions. Even Nelson didn’t realize who Luka was because of how thoroughly they purged her existence. If Red hadn’t personally witnessed her demise no one would’ve been able to convey her last wishes. The Centinals stole his identity and erased his mother it is only natural that he had resentment even if it was done willingly for the greater good.
I bought, and still have, a damn strategy guide for this game since the original release, and let me tell you, even with all of that help, it takes a long while to acquire everything! Excellent video anyway, man!
GOD I love Wonderful 101. It is hands down my favorite game on the Wii U, my favorite game of 2013, and I'm so happy to see more people spreading the good word about it.
I have no clue why I always call this game mighty 101 but everytime I bring up mighty 101 people know what I'm talking about lol. It's sooooo weird bro
I remember playing TW101 at launch and discussing it on Miiverse. Back then it felt like we were the only dozen or so people in the world who actually played and enjoyed the game. Good times.
I played this game for 6 hours straight and got the worst migraine of the year from how intense it is. I had lots of fun but I’m not ready for another head ache
Until this year, I was never able to beat the final boss, but I finally managed to do this when I bought the remastered version on steam, this game is now one of my favorite games I’ve played in my life
Good video, but your complaints about vorkken aren't really fair. He's a hard boss, but all his moves make sense. The only not intuitive thing is that his unite guts blocks everything, but once you know that, it's all on you. His unify boomerang is just fodder for getting off hero time, he is easy to bait into using the fist that you can counter, the hammer is easy to counter, and in general hero time is really useful since he's always vulnerable after unmorphing
Well, if it isn't the content creator on the online platform youtube, known as the kirby guy, with a youtube channel with almost 400 thousand subscribers, ANT DUDE!!!

Hey AntDude, really like your videos! Can you make a video about Fossil Fighters for the DS, and possibly it’s sequels, Fossil Fighters Champions and Fossil Fighters Frontier?

"And if you let it slip through your fingers once again..."
...diplomacy has failed.
me: (doesn't play it)
AntDude: *DIPLOMACY HAS FAILED*
Cool seeing this get some attention. I also backed the Kickstarter, and while I'm having some difficulties getting used to the controls, I more or less expected that and intend to power through.
Hey, my Dude! You should really play the Yo-Kai Watch series. It’s also a quirky game with a small but dedicated fanbase that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves
You can buy a upgrade at the store that makes P star blink when u get close to a item 12:57
Let's hope that this time around it sells really well so that we can get a wonderful 102.
Check out "How to Enjoy The Wonderful 101
", by Matthewmatosis Extra If you want to learn about this stuff in more detail.
At first I was wondering “ooh what’s this” but now I just want to play it and confuse my friends
The Centinals stole his identity and erased his mother it is only natural that he had resentment even if it was done willingly for the greater good.
it's so nice to see you alive and well =)
I bought, and still have, a damn strategy guide for this game since the original release, and let me tell you, even with all of that help, it takes a long while to acquire everything! Excellent video anyway, man!
I love that the tropical freeze cover is just funky kong
GOD I love Wonderful 101. It is hands down my favorite game on the Wii U, my favorite game of 2013, and I'm so happy to see more people spreading the good word about it.
So it's power ranger Pikmin basically
Is it me or the heroes in this game have a major Viewtiful Joe energy?
Ocean Man, Take Me By The Hand, Lead Me To The Land, That You Understand
I have no clue why I always call this game mighty 101 but everytime I bring up mighty 101 people know what I'm talking about lol. It's sooooo weird bro
Anthony: Put Santa in Smash you cowards.
Sakurai: But we put MinMin in.
Im still waiting for a VIEWTIFUL JOE return
I remember playing TW101 at launch and discussing it on Miiverse. Back then it felt like we were the only dozen or so people in the world who actually played and enjoyed the game. Good times.
I played this game for 6 hours straight and got the worst migraine of the year from how intense it is. I had lots of fun but I’m not ready for another head ache
Until this year, I was never able to beat the final boss, but I finally managed to do this when I bought the remastered version on steam, this game is now one of my favorite games I’ve played in my life
The definition of underrated
Oh fuck yeah !
They have bayonetta! How cool is that!?
I loved the Wonderful 101 it was one of my favorites on the Wii U
that kirby shirt is adorble i love it
this game has a viewtiful joe art style and i love it
Well, if it isn't the content creator on the online platform youtube, known as the kirby guy, with a youtube channel with almost 400 thousand subscribers, ANT DUDE!!!
Heh, Wonder-Red with the introductions.
Aight I’m sold. I want this game on my Switch aaaaand I don’t want to make Antdude sad.
Just a tip if you draw a bigger whip you can tear off more spikes so it doesn’t become a chore. 👍
Antdude. Still one of the few people on earth who is not using a "gaming" chair. Keep trudging on my man keep trudging.
Bug Fables next.
He’s gonna be happy about crash bandicoot 4
I’m so glad this finally got rereleased for the ps4! Really missed out on it for the wii u but then I never got one and probably won’t get one anytime soon. Platinum games are such an awesome developer and really outdid themselves!
Hey AntDude, really like your videos! Can you make a video about Fossil Fighters for the DS, and possibly it’s sequels, Fossil Fighters Champions and Fossil Fighters Frontier?
i played this back on the wii u, its so great. I really hope it gets a sequel now that it has a larger following
I too think of the word "wonderful" exclusively in Oak's voice.
Thanks to Woolie for showing so many people this game
Since this is one of my favourite games of all time, Wonder Red has been my number 1 smash candidate for years. I really hope that this remake gets the love it deserves and hopefully enough recognition for a potential wonderful fighter in Ultimate.
My kickstarter physical backer edition should arrive tomorrow.
