The knowledge from Goldman at 15:50 is just ridiculous. Knowing the English translation of the surname Constantine the 7th, before Paxman even has a chance to say what that surname is (assuming he was going to). The early buzz prevents an opponent who doesn't know the answer, but might have been able to do the translation if they knew some Greek.
It's justified. I hate how Paxman often scoffs at teams' guesses that are obviously total hail marys. Goldman was right to say that they might as well guess something. Paxman fucking sucks. I have no idea how he got this job. He has zero charisma and butchers the shit out of pronunciations all the time.
Wondered how soon there'd be one of those mean-minded comments about Goldman. Already the second one. And then the obligatory conceit with regard to the polite and gracious Mr Paxman.
Elia even it it did, why can't someone of one faith (or none) show interest and spend years studying another religion? people study what they're interested in.
JBL Asutavario exactly why even ask the question in the first place. University is after all an intellectual atmosphere which exists to promote study of anything and everything.
Yeah that was sketch, unless they meant "aromatic" colloquially (as in it has a nice aroma or whatever, which it really doesn't). Benzaldehyde was an absolute howler as an answer though, seeing as they literally asked for a ketone.
They shouldn't use chemical terms in colloquial contexts. It's rather unfair to the participants. But either way, acetone should've been an obvious answer!
At the end Paxman starts the Natasha Romanoff question... possibly the one answered in some other round which continued "and Thor" before being correctly answered as 'The Avengers'?? I think it may have been Johnson Corpus Christi but I may be wrong
George Kalostypis who cares. He clearly knows he's an intelligent person and probably feels he has a right to be arrogant. Not that I necessarily agree with that.
One Monkman is enough. The team is far from boring, it has the one man show Goldman in it, who is very very good at the job. Both he and Monkman are right up there together

Goldman was crazy fast on some of those answers, really impressed!
He does come across as a bit arrogant but that may just be a front. He is certainly impressive.
All I want from this season is Goldman vs Monkman.
The Cleganebowl of University Challenge series 46.
lexagon
Which team is Monkman in?
Caroline Langenberg Wolfson, Cambridge
Uttam Paudel That's on Monday.
Thanks so much for uploading this so quickly! Potts and Goldman were impressive! Thought Goldman had a bit of an attitude maybe.
And Paxman doesn't.

Paxman's thoughts at 16:05 : " where is my career going....I'm describing ducks to college students ....."
Thanks for the upload!!! I really love the show! Greetings from Chile!!
Goldman is just amazing
Didn't know Andy Samberg is that smart.....
Love the raised eyebrow and wry smile by Goldman 16:43 for the juxtaposition of ducks and “sensory”
Potts looks like a young Stephen Fry
better looking by far.
It's so strange that they say to eachother in the team that they're not sure but are almost always right
24:00 Wow. The BBC said Derry. Times have changed.
It was quite a shock
I'd love to hear that last question about Natasha Romanoff just before that gong went off
To the uploader, studying theology at Oxford doesn't necessitate the study of solely Christian theology.
Elia Ah interesting. But I suppose they may have some kind of 'tracks' to make it systematic. Or is it some kind of American-style religious studies?
Elia

Indeed, but that is a question to address the uploader rather than Ella.
psimanjuntak
you have no idea what the study of Theology is, have you?
11:36 since when is acetone aromatic??

LOL and the fact that they said saturated hahahahahaha
The Balliol team look like they could all be brothers lmao
At the end Paxman starts the Natasha Romanoff question... possibly the one answered in some other round which continued "and Thor" before being correctly answered as 'The Avengers'?? I think it may have been Johnson Corpus Christi but I may be wrong
why would you even put that in the description??
How many questions do you guys get right, normally? This time I got three and I felt rather proud of myself :l
Ennui Pi sometimes i only get one and that's by guessing!

Goldman has a very brilliant mind for being a theology student lol
Cannot think of any prominent theologian who didn't have a 'brilliant mind'. Is that another of the new prejudices?
Isn't that Freddy Potts guy the one who was in the news recently for discriminating against Christians?
Tat Tvam Asi probably, bloke is dirty socialist from the North.
Was he?
I now realise that your comments are catalytic; bravo, keep up the asinine wittering, sir!
Goldman is extremely knowledgeable and confident, but he comes down as quite arrogant.
George Kalostypis who cares. He clearly knows he's an intelligent person and probably feels he has a right to be arrogant. Not that I necessarily agree with that.
George Kalostypis really? To me it looked like he was rather awkward about it..
I didn't like how he said "whatever" after missing the film director. But agree he has a good amount of knowledge
Stafford Ahoy boo hoo. They were miles in the lead and to be honest I probably would have responded the same had I been in his position.
Elia
Goldman is insane!
How is acetone aromatic?
Jeremy Paxman, whose brain is a citadel of knowledge, called it Derry City opposed to LondonDerry. That settles that.
I got Addis Abeba and Syzygy
Hodge on fleek
Hapax Legamomanom guy is the GOAT.
Goldman! Wooft.
i want to see bailiol lose so bad
Cannot imagine any situation where I would want anyone to lose anything.
Even if I did, I'd certainly keep it to myself.
Pope was pathetic on the astrophysics question given that he is doing a D.Phil in Astrophysics.....
He got Barnard's star :P. Also the cosmic ray question was more particle physics; had to realise E = pc.
What was the calculation needed for that question? Specifically?
@@CaraxYT also want to know
The three composers one is BS. Way too esoteric
Balliol is the most forgettable team of the series. Honestly had no idea that I'd already watched them in the first round. Every team needs a Monkman!
One Monkman is enough. The team is far from boring, it has the one man show Goldman in it, who is very very good at the job. Both he and Monkman are right up there together
Very forgettable, only won the series.
how is acetone aromatic?
Yeah, I wonder if anyone complained about this after it aired.
