Removing Glue-on Shoes and Rehabbing Hooves Part 1

- The first part of this video shows me removing EasyCare Versa Octos and then trimming and prepping the horses hooves to reapply a new pair of shoes.
This horse has compromised hooves. This time of year he has some inflamatory events and sometimes a full blown laminitis episode. He gets footsore especially on hard ground, gets bad hoof wall separation which leads to cracks and seedy toe. I also suspect he has some rotation and/or sinking of the coffin bone.
He has been doing great in the shoes and we will keep them on as long as necessary.
This is part 1. I will be filming part 2 the next time I see him so I can track his progress.

I love watching you work on these horses feet entertaining and educating! Thanks ❤
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment!
Dang nab it! I wanted to see you apply the shoes. I've heard of these "glue on" shoes, but never actually saw one until today's video. Always educationsl, Kristin.
Thank you for watching!
I’m excited about the next parts of this video! I barefoot trim my own horses (in australia) after learning from some of the best barefoot trimmers locally and I need to do some glue on rehab with one. Looking forward to an upcoming clinic and learning about how to do them myself!
That’s awesome! Thanks for watching!
Nice presentation. Thank you for sharing...
Thank you too! So nice of you!
Really cool, educational video! Thanks!
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
Again, love these videos! How are you getting good retention with the Octos with his dished feet?
Thank you! If they fit well at the base and there aren’t any gaps they stay on fine for the full cycle.
My gelding ended up with the same kind of crack in his hoof wall. It was not fun to try and grow out. Where are you located with your trimming? also, do you have a brand you like for your tools? I'm going to need to get some new one's soon and would like to hear your opinion. Thanks!
Hi there. I’m in Arkansas. The brand depends on the tool I’m using. They are all different brands.
What about that WLD and toe cracks in both fronts?!
It’s growing out nicely now. Will have an updated video in a couple of weeks.
Are you going to reshoe him...and if so, why are you making the frogs so short...there's no way they'd touch the ground. Also, regarding the periopole...aren't you damaging the integrity of the wall?
I did re-shoe come. I have to remove as much gross dead tissue around the frog as possible because this guy lives in a pond all summer. When the hoof is weighted the frog makes contact with the frog support portion of the shoe.
The periople has to be removed so that the tabs will adhere to the wall. The super glue acts as a protective layer for the hoof wall during the cycle.
