Today is the 7th anniversary of losing my dad. He taught me to keep our horses hooves clean daily to scrape out the areas and the frog. I knew it was for the health and benefit of the horse and our Shetland Ponies, but I didn't know the full extent until this video.
Another great video with lots of interesting information for those of us who have nothing to do with horses but think they’re beautiful anyway! 😊 A podcast is a wonderful idea, I’d certainly be interested.
I would be very interested to hear that podcast with excerpts from conversations with various clients. Sounds really interesting. Thanks Caleb. From the U.K.
I'd love to hear folks' stories, many different people walk many different paths in life and their stories are fascinating. My working career was in aged care, and I've always said, I could write a book, filled with all the life experiences I've heard. One old sailor boy springs to mind.. I asked him.. in fun... did he have a gal in every port? He answered... I was a good boy who never got caught!! Well, that cracked me up, we both laughed at his remark. I've met Sirs, Dames, authors, jet pilots, airmen who flew by the seat of their pants, world wide travellers, great great grandparents, lawyers, politicians and political assistants, war veterans, and folks from a wide variety of international countries. So, yes.. I'd love to hear more stories.. Joh. By the way, horses have been my passion since I was 7 years old, I'm now 70. Keep up all your good work, your videos are wonderful.
Thanks for the link to your previous video. I see now why you mentioned the barn a few times! Quite an historic building, and an amazing story. To see it being used again with the same breed of horses by the same family gave me a shiver of delight. Quite wonderful that history has been kept alive.
Magic is so beautiful, wow! Such an awesome job Caleb, I love the idea of a podcast, it would be so interesting to hear all their stories, thank you Caleb, and take care, looking forward to seeing part 2.👍💙🐎
Hi Caleb! I'm hoping you can reach out to Homestead Horsemanship to see if you can help trim/shoe their rescue Clydsdale, Oliver. JR has tried to get a farrier for him to no avail. Or maybe refer a farrier to them? Truly appreciated and thank you!
I think the Homestead Horsemanship is in Alabama? They're on YT. I'm sure they'd appreciate hearing from you. I'll figure out how to contribute to the costs! Thank you Caleb!
Another very informative and interesting video, Caleb. Thank you!! I love the idea of a video series. That's easier for me, as opposed to the podcast. Thank you again, Caleb!! Have a great weekend!! Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
Nice video. Good work. I agree with you, I like the Shire Horse too. They are powerful but gentle like a lamb. I'm looking forward to the sequel. Greetings from Germany.
I do not have a horse! That said, I am in awe of these majestic creatures. Watching your channel for me is interesting and relaxing. You have the most calming voice, and I love the journey. ❤
Thank you for narrating while you work. I always learn something I did not know each time. Also you have a great voice for the narrative. Makes me think of Rex Reed, even though his voice was deeper than yours. :-).
I'm at the point where you brought up podcast .? My first day of farrier science course at Kwantlen polytechnic in bc starts Oct 23. So I would love to hear and be subscribed to a farrier podcast
Podcast would be great! I would tune in. You know amazing people that would open up the ferrier world in other areas of the life that you work in. Because of your work you know a lot of people at ranches, a lot of ferrier, they have a lot of experiences as yourself. Your open minded attitude to better ways in hoofing further learn better ways and polishing your craft further perfecting it, you’re going to pass some of your knowledge like other ferriers passing on an easier procedure in your yet it doesn’t take away the quality of your work will keep you loving the job you do. The hard work at times becomes an enjoyment. Aloha !!!!!!!!
I do have calloused feet because I only wear shoes when I have to (pretty common in Australia) & it’s remarkable how similar my foot care is to what you do for horse hooves
The podcasts sound great! I'd loke some general info on how they afford their horses, because I'm looking for a second job & haven't found one yet! 😂😉 Seriously, creative ideas on ways to juggle horse finances would be appreciated by many people, I'm sure...
If you wanted your finish to look better and “smooth”, could you rasp the outside after you use your nippers but before you toss on the shoe? Then you’re not wearing your rasp down on the nails as much but still making it “pretty”? I’m hoping to become a farrier but this is a very new adventure for me, so I’m curious to the opinion on this
We Use 2 different rasp hot and cold. Cold is for trim. Hot is q worn out cold rasp we use for finishing the hoof. You have to rasp the nails to take off sharp edges
Would like to hear the various conversations while you work with the clients, can always 😉 learn from them, thanks for the great videos 😊 😊 18:0518:07 e various conversations while you are working
I’d love to hear more of your thoughts on horses or anything else of interest. Looking for sane, sensible, intelligent conversation on many topics. Had enough of the screaming doom sayers on mainstream channels.
No laminitis usually presents as swelling of the lamini. This looks very different than separation of the wall. With laminitis the the lamini wall doubles in width
Somehow watching your videos I've developed a hoof fetish. Maybe someday I'll have a horse again, but meanwhile I'll continue learning about horse hooves!
Nice video, it would be better if you didn't talk thru it cause the sounds are asmr to me. I'm not trying to hate, still like the videos, and will continue to watch. I just wanted to point that out.
There are a ton of ASMR channels out there. We had a lot of requests for explanations of what we are doing so that's what we do. It's actually one of the things that makes this channel different from other channels that have farrier content
@@caleberickson_The_Dying_Breed personally i love to hear why you're doing things. Just turn the mic volume up a bit. could barely hear you in this one, esp when the sander came out lol
Sounds to me instead of spending money on a pod cast studio you should spend the money on more new equipment on nippers and take the time to sharpen you blades. I’ve heard you say it’s important to have good equipment.. but you say many times in a video my blades are dull and needs sharpening but you seem to not have enough time to keep your equipment in shape and up to speed. So your going to do a pod cast that will take up a lot more of your time and less time to keep up with your equipment. I could care less what books you and your customers read. But good luck with that pod cast I won’t be listening.

That is one patient, well trained horse. He never moved a muscle. Beautiful result
I would truly value a podcast on the people you come in contact with and how life is for them.
God bless you with your knowledge and gift to help a horse individually. Bless you 10 folds

It is clear you love your work. Such a nice job. Thank you for sharing.
He is so pretty and such a well behaved guy. Thank you for showing the horse.
Would love to hear podcasts. Do it!
Thanks for the knowledge.
Oooh definitely interested in the mapping video.
I love the podcast idea! It would be interesting to hear your clients’ stories, book reviews, general discussions, etc.
That's the nicest finish I've seen you do. Great job.
Thank you
What an absolute beauty ❤❤❤
Beautiful outcome for a Beautiful horse. Enjoyed that very much. Thank you Sir.
What a beautiful horse. You do wonderful work. Love that you explain as you go along. ❤❤❤

Greetings from Germany.
I like when the hoof oil is applied ..its the finishing touch n also brings out colors of the hoof
I'd love to see the view when you drop the foot to check the level of the foot.
The podcast sounds great! Can’t wait to tune in!
Caleb I have enjoyed watching you improve and learn about your craft. I like not wringing off the nails. Is it easier to square them up?
Gorgeous hooves!! So white! He’s a very handsome horse and I think he must look very majestic in a parade! Great job Caleb!! ❤❤❤❤

Please do that. I’m fascinated with your work and would love to hear more
Sure do a podcast that would be awesome. Some horse's don't get their nails done and that hurts them like it would hurt us...
CATCHING UO FROM PART 2 --LOVE DRAFT HORSES AND THE WAY YOU HELP THEM I LIKE HOW YOU WORK 🥰🥰🥰🥰

15-25 min videos help keep the attention of the younger ones that are trying to figure out if he wants a horse 🐎 or not.
Very good job!👍👍👍🐴🐴🐴
Yep do video series sounds great
I do have calloused feet because I only wear shoes when I have to (pretty common in Australia) & it’s remarkable how similar my foot care is to what you do for horse hooves
Hoof oil just for Aesthetics? Or to seal the tubulars?
More interested in the horses. Thanks!
Your narration, I find would have been very helpful last night when I couldn't sleep 😴 😅
Yes to podcast!
Very nice job
How often do you sharpen your tools
What is the FROG? What causes the pigeon hoofed, what tools are you using...
We live around the corner from a family who raised Clydesdals
for Budwiser . Do you do any of horse's?

If you could have a device to support your back or core in front of you, what would it be or what woyld you need!
I'm wandering if you ever considered using angle grinder like they do on cattle? Or, are horse hoofs to hard , Thank You
hi just to let you know that your audio is really low on this video. love the channel tho as always ❤🐴
That's weird not sure why that happened
Would like to hear the various conversations while you work with the clients, can always 😉 learn from them, thanks for the great videos 😊
😊 18:05 18:07
e various conversations while you are working
That’s pretty awesome on the podcast! I do a Equine Pro Tips podcast for people who are new equestrians and it’s done well! I encourage you to do it!
That's awesome I'll check out your podcast
Very Very Nice ❤
Could you show trimming ergots & chestnuts please?❤❤❤
How long does this whole process take for a normal everyday trim and shoe for all 4 hooves?
Between 1 hour and 1 and a half
Where do you get your nippers, knives etc?
Knives are salcitos, ge nippers, and heller excel made by mustad. Wellshod has a great selection
Ty
Did you do the podcast? This is 6 months old. I think it would be great and you can answer questions as you show the videos.
Odd you should ask we haven't officially announced it but we are launching the podcast in May we just got done shooting the 6th episode
Where can I find the video of the historic barn, pls

Here you go

@SweetDreaming28 check out our podcast might be just what you are looking for
God certainly created the horses feet to be interesting.
How to you shoe a horse that is 1or2 years old?
audio was very low , otherwise was very enjoyable
these hooves are made for walking
Why did this horse not have shoes, and why are you putting on him now?
maybe it's just me, but very difficult to hear you in this one. love the Shire horses.
It’s a shame you didn’t make the shoe to fit the horse (magic) to match lateral, heat them up, reshape them, then call them down then Colchester again
When it was you could see the soles of the foot it looked like it was pulling back from the wall ain't that the beginning of laminitis?
No laminitis usually presents as swelling of the lamini. This looks very different than separation of the wall. With laminitis the the lamini wall doubles in width
@@caleberickson_The_Dying_Breed okay thank you Caleb for telling me that.
Somehow watching your videos I've developed a hoof fetish. Maybe someday I'll have a horse again, but meanwhile I'll continue learning about horse hooves!
Just love ❤️ your videos, you are my favorite and I watch a lot of farrier videos. Thanks lynn75 in Missouri 😊 23:26 23:26
why do you hot shoe some horse, and cold shoe others, pls?
Narrative videos are very interesting. Political, not so much. But explaining the hoof parts, what you're using, what you're doing...
Please show the horse you are working on and resolve all issues on the hooves. A half baked pancake is not edible
Magic magic doesn't seem like he's minds a power tool at all.
Why you go in without cleaning the hood better to see what you have
