- This test on if a flashlight can burn you or if a LED flashlight can start a fire came from my daughter trying to find a tick on my dog. Needless to say, there was no tick, but Libby did get a few burned hairs from the incident.
No, she was not hurt, but someone could be from some of these lights. Turn some of these lights and Turbo and put them in your pocket and bad things could happen.

The moral of this story, don't use these high-powered flashlights to look into any container of gas.
To be honest paper starts smoking before the autoignition temperature of gasoline. Not to mention gasoline is relatively transparent and thus won't absorb too much of the radiant energy.
The bigger concern would be using anything electrical around gasoline that isn't intrinsically safe because the tiny spark that can start a gasoline fire is well above the autoignition temperature.
It won't start a fire u can boil gas or petrol as we call it ,,,it needs a spark or flame to ignite

Yes, The problem isn't on a piece of paper its and accidental turning in your pocket or bag thats the issue. Take it from experience, I now isolate my powerful flashlights.
I can tell you I have the Acebeam L16, it turned on in the holster on Turbo and burned a hole right through the holster itself.. crazy
I've burned people's arm hair with my Zebra light. Darker hair burns easier since it absorbs more. If you pointed the lights at black paper (or at newspaper with a lot of black ink in a graphic) it would probably burn easier.
I think pet dander and skin particles are flammable. This helps ignite the hair.
MY Fenix pd36r gets really hot on the brightest setting and can't hold onto to it with bare hands for more than 2 minutes. Thanks for this review. I will be more careful with handling it and never give it to anyone without warning them first.
If you crumpled the paper you would find completely different results. Crumple a brown paper lunch bag.put it on bezel...fire.
A lot of the custom made pocket sized 18650 lights that use super high drain cells like a q30 are fire starters. They can ignite paper in close to 5 seconds. These production lights not so much they take liability a lot more seriously. And they usually just aren't powerful enough. The small custom 18650 lights usually are though.
I'd love to see what would happen if you shined it through a magnifying glass.

This doesn't do what's claimed..I almost fell asleep waiting for any burn..$42.20? Not worth it, unless it actually can be used as protection.
I'm thinking you might had a better chance if you hold the paper in the air or at least have separation from the table to allow air flow on both sides of paper..
I was thinking the same thing, like the time in high school I told a dude he could have my $20 bill if he could burn a hole through it while I held it wrapped tight against the back of his hand. He failed, but I was impressed by how determined he was, and how long he continued to try, with his lighter, and the heater of cigarettes. I let him keep it anyways, knowing full well he was going to carry that 2 x 2" scar for the rest of his life.
From what is said online, you need a minimum of 2300 lumens from LEDs in order to produce enough heat to cause a fire. but I'm sure you could get a flame started if you used a magnifying glass with less powerful lights, I haven't got one to try and my most powerful torch is a measly 780Lm but I'm still keen to see what would happen so will probably be going shopping later
And much less to make things smoke. My 250 lumen keychain light that will make anything black start to smoke immediately.

Every Sci Fi fan knows that paper will burn at 451 degrees F. You got very close to setting that paper on fire.......
Book paper actually combusts at 450 degrees celsius. It catches fire at 842 degrees fahrenheit.
adding an additional light dies not increase the lumens/brightness, it will only increase the area that can be lit. that is, 2 500 lumen lights will not equal 1000 lumens
Id consider carrying one instead of pepper spray for self defense against animals or people... just a thought
I think throwers rely more on the reflectors and optics than power which makes sense. A true flood light with a 150 degree plus spread are going to need lots of power. I have a light like that. It is so powerful it is recommended that you not use the light if you are not alone by yourself to keep you from blinding someone. It's 5000lm coming out the tip of a 1" diameter tube with a 160 degree spread and no focus optics. It is amazing to use. But you cant use it around other people.
I only carry a 320 Lumen AAA light in my pocket, and even with a double tap lockout function I've found my pocket getting hot and its still turned itself on. Once you start getting up to 1000 or more lumens those things get hot! Even with the step down after a couple minutes.

My NEBO flashlight definitely starts a fire within 5-10 seconds.
Can a 3.6v rechargeable battery power a light strong enough set light to a newspaper? NO! At that voltage you'd need so much amperage That it'd heat your band to burn your skin.

Your results would be different if you stopped fanning/waving your hand constantly in front of the area.
There is no need for more oxygen, just less turbulence right where you shine the light.

I was carrying an astrolux 11,000 lumen flashlight in my pocket which has four XHP50 LEDs 26 650 battery came on in my pocket in my pocket was smoking like crazy and burn my leg almost caught my pants on fire. The light came on accidentally in my pocket

When I was a kid we goofed around in tents with flashlights so much, including shining them through our hands to see the red glow etc. We'd also constantly take flashlights from my fathers garage, and he was a mechanic so he had a few powerful ones. We weren't total idiots, we didn't touch the heavy/gas/pneumatic/electrical looking stuff (that was just my hyperactive friends who had no exposure to equipment at home). But we thought flashlights were harmless. These tactical flashlights are so dangerous, mostly because people (like myself until today) don't know that a portable light can set a polyester tent or sleeping bag on fire. Don't let anyone touch your flashlight, if you have one of these ones. Lock it away

YOU CAN HOLD A CIGARETTE TO IT ON THE TABLE YOU WILL NOT BURN THROUGH THE PAPER.
