  • With the SW-Motech engine guard installed it was time to take it out for a quick test ride. Here's what happened.

    I believe this plate is better then heavy steel tubular crash bars, plus a skid plate. This one piece does it all. Has to be lighter then any crash bars or any crash bar skid plate combination.

    Hey, really liked the video. I’m having great troubles with the original skid plate, already cut through the silent blocks twice so far. Is this skid plate still reliable two years later? Does it work with the KTM genuine center stand?
    Thanks a lot

      Hi Dimitrios, Yes I'm still running the SW-MOTECH bash plate and it is holding up very well, with no problems at all. It's a bit scratched and scuffed up but that's exactly what it's for. I have done over 25,000km mixture of on (30%) and off-road (70%) riding. I never have to worry about protection for the radiator, lower tank, lower engine or exhaust as this bash plate has them all covered. Yes this will fit with the genuine centre stand. The only thing I would possibly change is to fit the black version.

    I saw theses for sale OS for €280 or £246! They will be the first $500 bash plates here in Australia.Gulp

      Close - they are $495 in Australia. It protects the lower engine, header pipes, mid pipe, lower fuel tank and catalytic converter all in one.

    Wow, I’m going to buy shares in aluminium mining companies. There are hectares of it in this guard.

    how does it affect oil change procedure? need to remove whole plate or are the parts already exposed?

    • @motorradgarage5019
      @motorradgarage5019  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oil change as per usual. It is a bit of a tight fit removing the actual oil filter with the bash plate in place so I have slightly modified the side near the oil filter to make enough clearance to remove and reinstall the filter without any dramas.

    Hey man! Are you still running the bike with this skid plate, or you've ended up swapping it for something?
    Could you please share a "long term review" of it? I'd greatly appreciate it, since I'm on the fence, whether to buy this (very heavy-looking, gotta admit) SW-Motech piece, or wait for Outback Motortek parts to get produced again.

    • @motorradgarage5019
      @motorradgarage5019  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I am still running the skid plate and have done almost 10,000kms on the bike. There have been absolutely no issues with the skid guard to date and it's good to know I have very extensive crash protection should I need it. At first glance it looks big and heavy but I can assure you that you don't feel any difference in the handling of the bike.

      @@motorradgarage5019 Do you think there is a need for crash bars on top of this engine guard? thanks

    • @motorradgarage5019
      @motorradgarage5019  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MatheusFerreira-lg3pl Hi Matheus. I started with just the crash bars, then I ran just the engine guard for about 15,000km. I had plenty of scratches and scrapes in that time and one reasonable drop where the engine guard did a great job of protecting the bike on it's own. I have now added the crash bars back over the top of the engine guard for even more protection. Are they needed? it's really a personal decision of how much protection you feel is enough for the type of riding you do. It's good to have the option.

    totally unnecessary. what does that thing weigh? I've read that in the build and testing of this bike, they dropped them plenty of times at speed, and never a single failure or puncture on the tanks.. just replace the bottom POS with a sturdy alu. one, and you'd be good to go

      robd0gg well, SW-Motech says, the plate assembly without mounting material is ~4kg, which ain’t much at all.
