You are so crazy, your friends were sweating with bikes that are half of the size of yours! You are almost ready to join Pol Tarres in the next Romaniacs!
There's a KTM engineer watching this from their house in Austria, crying tears of joy to see the machine they designed being used properly. Well done mate, excellent review!
Yeah. Brilliant mate. In all my years, drinking in Bike mags and shows and Top Gear and being totally absorbed in everything motor driven, I've never seen such a functional and useful review of a vehicles abilities beyond its design parameters. Every part of this told me something good about the 790 in the worst terrain. I hope this gets the traction it deserves, and respect to your significant abilities on it, on your first day. Unbelievable.
Wow, brutal trails. What a stud rider. No, I would have turned back early on that ride. I bought one and I’m looking forward to using it down south of the border in the more open terrain. Thanks for the video.
That was the hardest terrain I saw being ridden with one of the "adventure bikes". Didnt expect that it was possible with this bike, great riding! Now it would be nice to see you riding the same trails with a Yamaha Tenere 700 so there would be at least one really useful comparison between those two bikes in the internet...
There's ~NO WAY~ that I would've taken my brand new 790 on a single like that. You're a better man than I am. I think you're right by thinking you could use to drop a tooth or two in the front sprocket. From the sound of the motor, I'd probable drop one. Best of luck at Big Bear. Two big "thumbs up" from this Kentucky boy.
Yes, going to go down 1 for sure and see what she does. From there we may go up 1 -2 out back to fine tune it. don't want to loose too much for cursing around on faster roads
It’s unbelievable! The way you get out of these steep rutted trails is unbelievable. Stopping on such steep ground and paddling your way up without flipping the bike is difficult on regular enduro bike, but the 790 does it effortlessly. This video shows the essence of dual sport bikes! I’ve been thinking of getting an adventure bike I can ride 200 miles to some trails, you convinced me to get a 790! You should get a medal from KTM!
First, I have to say is WOW. I wouldn't believe it, unless I've seen it. I've seen it, but still can't believe it. In the past I watched your videos wanting to get into more off road riding. I live in SoCal and a lot of your riding takes place in the area. I did a lot of research and needed a dual purpose bike. I was wanting a 690 or 701 but made a mistake taking my girl with me. She took a look at the two bikes and ask how was she going to ride on the back. She enjoys riding on my KLR so I went and bought the 790r without doing the proper research. I've owned it for two weeks and a little voice in my head has been telling me I bought the wrong bike. Well my friend you have made me so much happier on my purchase I know I will never be able to ride like you but have seen the capabilities of this bike. Two thumbs up and mad respect to you please keep us posted on the race at Big Bear. I want to go so I can cheer you on!
It's definitely not the easiest bike to take off road but it is very capable with the right skills. I'm taking my girlfriend out on the back as well and ran some fire roads and cruised around and it is the perfect bike for that stuff. You have an awesome machine, enjoy it
Dude, incredible footage. I would never take a bike that heavy in such technical stuff. A 701 maybe, but that ADV is a champ for what you put it thru. Best technical footage I've seen on this bike. Congrats!
This is exactly why I own a DRZ and an Africa Twin. Best of both worlds. While I'm not a Orange fan, I'm glad you got it, and I think you are really going to enjoy it.
Holy crap! You've got some skills man. I just got one of these. Not sure I'll ever have the balls to ride it like that. I look forward to seeing more of these. Maybe you'll inspire me...
That was some serious off roading! I don’t think I’d have the gull to try some of those hills on any bike let alone a 460Lb bike. Most impressive part is the fact your rode that bike all the way there hit all those trails and rode it all the way home. You definitely showed the true definition of adventure bike in this video!
This was the first time I ride it as well. I had never been in an adventure bike before this day. But I ride 300s and 500s constantly on much worse terrain. This was awesome
That was crazy. AND I know it would have looked/been sooooooooo much steeper than it looks on camera. Can't believe you rode that. I wouldn't/couldn't manage those trails on a DRZ400.
I was on those kind of situations with my 1190 (non R) and my heart rate rose and I got adrenaline just from watching. When you're up the hill finally, you feel like you just finished Dakar or so lol :) Love this Video - best greets from near the KTM factory in Austria.
Excellent video! Demonstrating the abilities of this bike as you have in these tough riding conditions and showing what it is capable of is a big reason why I bought one. I was looking to replace my DR650 with something more streetable while still being a great dual sport dirt wise. KTM nailed it! Keep up the great vids guys!
Insane! Kudos to the rider on such a challenging terrain. But also if ever you needed a demonstration of KTM's off-road credentials, see how elegantly they expressed with the 790 Adventure R in this video. The after market add-ons also made perfect sense on this ride!
Good job! I'm tired of seeing dudes ride the 790R on the street for an hour and talk about what a poor street bike it is. I've taken mine on some decent off road stuff and I am amazed at the suspensions ability to soak up some nasty shit for such a big bike. I love the 790R, it's great off, and on road, truly the unicorn of adventure bikes!
You are a great rider,,, I just purchased the 790R in Colombia, South America. Do you have to put the bike in Rally mode to change the traction control settings?
Staring down 46 and I'm not sure that I want to spend much time in like terrain on the 790. Your skill compliments the larger KTM. I'm sticking with my 690R I think. Cheers💯
Awesome. I am just getting my new 790 made up with goodies. Cat. Removal, pegs, protection, air filter, rack etc. Question, did you keep the original front rim and just change to a tube type tire with a tube? And you kept the rear tubeless? Why? I do not want to spend $$$$ to switch out rims, but prefer the off road advantage to tubes
I used the stock wheels front and rear with heavy duty tubes through the stock holes I have another wheel set coming that should be ready next week. If you plan on keeping the stock wheels + tubes... I would drill new holes that are the appropriate size for a standard valve stem and plug up the giant holes that the wheels came with
@@EverySingleSunday You also put a tube in the rear? With the off set value hole? I want to go tube as well, as I spend 90% of my ride in the dirt, long trips as well. Never comfortable without tubes.
Most of the off-road guys seem to run the 140 size. On this wide of a wheel, the 150 might have been better. honest answer is I didn't really do that much research and just went with what it seem like most guys were running
You're running a d908rr 140/80 on the stock rim? How is the profile on the wide rim? Are you using a tube? I got one for really cheap and wasn't sure if I wanted to use it or get a 150/70.
Amazing skills. Was blown away at what you and the 790 can tackle. Thanks for sharing. love the channel. I am sold and anxious to go check out the 790 at my local dealer.
I love my 790 R and done some difficult trail but have never put it through that gnarly of terrain. That was impressive riding on that size of bike. Great review!
Hey man, great video!! Is the first time I see a real life video of what the 790 is capable of. Also words aside for the rider. I imagine that keeping momentum in such a monster is a challenge. Just great!! Regards from Argentina. Luciano
Stand-up more. My XR650L with 4.7 gal tank weights in wet at 365. Not quite 450 but I'm 60 and have used it the same as in the video for years. Good job.
Wow! By a massively huge country mile, the most arduous and rigorous test of a 790 I've ever seen. Most people rave about it after sliding around on a dirt track. I'm pretty sure you made the designers at KTM wince! Deeply, DEEPLY impresive skills and very brave. I was holding my breath at the drops on some of those off-camber bends! However I'd still argue the more effective comparable choice (in terms of premium quality branding) for such brutal terrain would be a 701LR: substantial weight advantage (less exhausting whenever you drop it) but without losing too much in highway practicality. Nonetheless, I still think you're probably getting way more out of your 790 than 99% of other owners! KTM should be sending you a big discount for this phenomenal demonstration!
My plan with this when I got it was to attend the KTM Rally they have every year. They require a twin Cylinder bike Make sure to check out my Big Bear Run video on the BikeBandit TH-cam channel... It's awesome Posted a couple months back
@@EverySingleSunday Okay; just watched your Big Bear escapade and as a result I must obviously correct the first statement in my original comment! Suffice it to say that Duncan Shepherd probably reflects the thoughts of virtually ALL of your viewers.
Oh hell yeah, you made that almost look easy... I think most mortals would struggle on them hills on the 2T's y'all kicking arse, but ultra awesome you did all that on the 790!
I also have a 2020 790ADVR with similar upgrades... touratech crash..skid reinforcement. Motoz tractionator desert tires. Anyways, im very interested in following your progress particularly at Big bear, I have confidence in you after seeing your skill!
Outstanding! I do a lot of riding in the Rockies and I've been wanting to see what this bike could do on some real trails and tough single track. Most of the other reviews I've seen have been on dirt roads not much more extreme than my driveway with some guy calling everyone "mate". I've been questioning the tanks, everyone says they're fine as they are. After watching this, when I finally break down and get one, I will definitely be adding the larger skid plate. Thanks for the great video.
I know exactly what you mean. Besides the factory KTM guys I haven't actually seen anyone ride one of these 790s yet Had to just pull the trigger and hope she did what I was looking for Thanks for the comment Travis
Only thing holding nthe bike back is tall rocks that are too narrow for the gas tank / bike to fit through. But I guess that's just an adventure bike for ya. I'm used to riding a 300 so this is a beast
Man, thats some light enduro trail! Speaks a lot of this bike and your skills that you managed that, when I saw those big ruts I was like theres no way, I would turn around on 200kg~ bike! Crazy shit ; good riding ;
Great video! I’ve got a 690 and a 1290 and taking them places they shouldn’t go is always a blast... especially people’s reactions. People can’t believe you can take bikes like that through gnarly terrain. How did that Goldentyre work up front? The TKC-80 on the front end of my 690 tends to dive on me and I’m looking for a good alternative. Thanks and ride on!
sorry.. but what is "diving"? I just put some TKC80s on and man are they a night and day from my old mostly street tires. my bike is only 420lbs so maybe the 'diving' doesn't happen until above a certain weight?
I have A LOT of respect for your riding ability especially on a heavy bike like this. It's an awesome video. I have two questions. I would like to know your opinion regarding center of gravity. Do you feel that the low slung fuel tanks on the 790/890 make a big difference in regards to handling off road when compared to other bikes in the same class? Second, I would be very interested in your opinion of the 690/701 on tight single track. I ride an XR400 for strictly off road and an XR650L for BDR type stuff. I have taken my 650 on tight stuff. It will do it very well, but it can be very tiring. I went on part of the Kentucky Adventure Trail (KAT) last July and it whooped me in the mud and rocks. Thanks for any input you can give.
The fuel down low does help at low speed and static balance. I loved my T700 but the T700 does feel too heavy The 690/701 is much better off-road. It feels lighter in every aspect but Isn’t as comfortable for long days.
Just bought one and can’t wait had the 500exc and wanted something different. Any update on the tires and what you would currently recommend? Any help would be great thanks.
Because when the front tire goes away, you fall instantly Yes the rear tire may spin or slide but it’s not going to put you on the ground if it’s not locked it I like sliding the back end around and a bike that is setup somewhat loose But I need the front locked in
Impressive both the bike and you on oxygen deprivation mode. And considering the traction off, you were aiming for gold, haven't you! So looking forward to more of your craziness on this beauty!
For low speed stuff like this it’s pretty amazing. It’s soft and does not like huge hits but I’m also also 220 pounds. I ended up sending my Suspension to Schmidt Performance in Paris, California to have it revalved but stuck with the original springs, so it was still soft for road riding. I think this bike has the best suspension out of all of the bikes in this category.
@@EverySingleSunday Thanks for the info, I recently bought a Suzuki 800 DE but I did look at the KTM 790/890 quite a bit. I wasn't sure if your bike's suspension was stock or not so thanks for clarifying that. It looks like it's working great.
No issues with heat or the clutch so far. I have a couple other videos up on the bike bandit TH-cam channel And I have another one scheduled on this channel for next Monday already :-)

Wow, respect! I would be terrified doing this on a 350exc and you're crushing it on the 790. Well done.
You got some skills, bro. You mastered a single tracker with that beast of a bike impressive subscribed
Check out our newest video... The trails bet even crazier
Besides the factory KTM guys I haven't actually seen anyone ride one of these 790s yet
Had to just pull the trigger and hope she did what I was looking for
Thanks for the comment
Travis
Only thing holding nthe bike back is tall rocks that are too narrow for the gas tank / bike to fit through. But I guess that's just an adventure bike for ya. I'm used to riding a 300 so this is a beast
Yep, every shitty review of the 790R has been an English man riding on "green lanes"!
Ktm 790 single track... *Subscribed*
Great ride and skillful rider. Sure do have some fun. Definitely bent on getting that 790 R now.
They’re awesome bikes. I have a full 790 playlist if you want to see more from that bike
good on ya mate, thats what these things r made for, adventures no matter how easy or hard
Do you use hevy duty tubes on the 300? I thought you was on mousses woaaaw im impressed how the tubes can take those gnarly trails
I only use Mousse on the 300. Can't use mousse on this as it can't handle the speed as I plan on riding bit on the freeway occasionally
What trails are those? Where are you riding??
They are in SoCal but I can’t give out the exact location
Congrats on the success! 👍keep up the gr8 work! Sharing the hell out of your vids!
Thanks so much and we really appreciate it
Amazing rider. Keep the awesome videos coming
Thanks so much. We just posted a new video on the Bike Bandit TH-cam page you haven't seen it. more awesome 790 stuff
Going down the hill with that big KTM just freaked me out...great control man!!!!
Just have to go step by step. Thanks
Got to be honest, there was about 50% of that trail that I didn't think you'd get up on that bike. Great riding!
You and me both!
Man, thats some light enduro trail! Speaks a lot of this bike and your skills that you managed that, when I saw those big ruts I was like theres no way, I would turn around on 200kg~ bike! Crazy shit ; good riding ;
Thanks so much, it was definitely a lot of fun. we just posted another video on even better train earlier this week, check it out :-)
Nice.
I was hoping for a look at the skid plate at the end?
I'll post one up soon
What tire changing stand is that? Would it work for bigger adventure bike wheels?
It's a Rabaconda. It really excells on doing Mousse Inserts but works great for tubes and TuBliss as well. Mine does 17-21" wheels.
Every Single Sunday you think it would work for r1200gsa wheels okay?
I don't see why it wouldn't. But I would email Rabaconda directly and ask them
Every Single Sunday thanks man!! NorCal adv rider subscriber here.
Hey there! Might be a repetitive question but can you give me the info on what tires you have and what info on the front rim? I like that set up.
It's all in the beginning of the video 🤘
Great video! I’ve got a 690 and a 1290 and taking them places they shouldn’t go is always a blast... especially people’s reactions. People can’t believe you can take bikes like that through gnarly terrain. How did that Goldentyre work up front? The TKC-80 on the front end of my 690 tends to dive on me and I’m looking for a good alternative. Thanks and ride on!
Ya, it's the truth. I love the 216aa front tire. The carcass is a little soft for this bike on huge rocks / hits but traction is amazing for offroad
sorry.. but what is "diving"? I just put some TKC80s on and man are they a night and day from my old mostly street tires. my bike is only 420lbs so maybe the 'diving' doesn't happen until above a certain weight?
Hey buddy great riding a single track trail with a big heavy bike. 🎉🥰
Would you by the new Rally model if you had a chance?
100% yes. The suspension, wheels, and exhaust make up for the price difference alone
I loved my T700 but the T700 does feel too heavy
The 690/701 is much better off-road. It feels lighter in every aspect but Isn’t as comfortable for long days.
@@EverySingleSunday Thanks for the quick reply.
You just gained a subscriber! Excellent work there bud. Just wish we had those sorts of trails here in the UK.
Damn dude! @05:30 what camera were you using? That stabilization is SIC!!
I use a go pro hero 7 black. I have a video on all of my settings if you want to check it out
Just bought one and can’t wait had the 500exc and wanted something different. Any update on the tires and what you would currently recommend? Any help would be great thanks.
My favorite for offroad is a Dunlop 606 up front and a 908 in the back. This is solid I'd you like OFF-ROAD
Why is the rear tire not as important as the front? I would have thought it would be the opposite because the rear is the drive wheel.
Because when the front tire goes away, you fall instantly
Yes the rear tire may spin or slide but it’s not going to put you on the ground if it’s not locked it
I like sliding the back end around and a bike that is setup somewhat loose
But I need the front locked in
Great track, big hands, huge Bike!
Impressive both the bike and you on oxygen deprivation mode. And considering the traction off, you were aiming for gold, haven't you! So looking forward to more of your craziness on this beauty!
Were all about doing it without the electronics
Really nice riding you are working that bike for sure!
How is the stock suspension for that sort of stuff? Is it harsh, soft or just right?
Fantastic video - subscribed!
Some questions:
1. Any issues with overheating?
2. Any issues with the clutch?
Please keep the videos coming.
No issues with heat or the clutch so far. I have a couple other videos up on the bike bandit TH-cam channel
And I have another one scheduled on this channel for next Monday already :-)
Just put my pre order in. Should be getting it by end of March, early April. Excited!!!
Totally awesome video, won't lie little bit jealous lol.
I have a 701 Husqvarna enduro which I absolutely love for adventure and the 300 xcw for the gnarly stuff but that 790 is sick looking!
Nice job on the single track with that big boy!
Congrats!
From the sounds of your breathing you could be riding a KLR only you have 4 times more HP and a real suspension. Love what your doing with the 790. Good luck and have fun on your ADV.
