I know that a dependent visa holder cannot work in the US. As an IT graduate, how can I work there? Can I get a visa that will allow me to work in the US after coming to the US as a dependent? 😊
If you want to work in US, coming here as a dependent (F2 visa) is not a good option, bcz with F2 you can't even study full time. You have 2 options. 1. Apply for F1, complete higher studies & then you can get OPT, find a job & start working.
2. Coming here as J1, J2 visa also allow you to work in US. We will do a video about this in future.

Just a comment on J1 visa, J1 visa is a non immigrant visa, which won’t allow you to apply for H1B employment visa or permanent residency directly. Once you complete (or if you have a H1B sponsorship) 5 years in J1 visa there is a the two-year home residency requirement, where you have to return to your home country or get that requirement waived from your home country government. Then only you can apply for H1B visa, which will allow you to go through the pathway to the residency. Your spouse cannot work when you become H1B, unless they have their own sponsorship. Employers will offer you J visa, because it is easier for them. But it is not the best. You are gonna lose lots of time settling down in USA, if you come through J visa. I’ve had that journey, and was successful, but I had to plan everything meticulously to become a citizen 11 years after coming to the US. But I had to work like real hard, I came as a post-doc, I had to generate publications to build up my NIW application for permanent residency, got the J1 2 year requirement waived by the SL government in my 4th year of J visa, got my H1B right away, and filed the green card application without any sponsorship under National Interest Waiver (NIW) category within 3 months after getting my H1B. Also I got my green card approved 6 months after I filed the application. This was before the pandemic, now these timelines have changed, they are much longer. F or H is the best visa categories as they are immigrant visas. For a couple, best option is for both to come as students. My experience is limited to the science field. And I already had a PhD from SL when I came to US.
