Salad you may be missing is vital for some essential nutrients, carotenoids, and phytochemicals. Really recommend learning some simple tahini based dressings to make that medicine go down. But most of the microbiota accessible carbohydrates (prebiotics) in either vegan or western diets come from bran, bulbs, and beans. What if it is normal to have less than the maximum number of bacteria? Then there would be room for normal levels of all the bacteria and room for some more than normal.
I remember reading something somewhere about how it’s actually good for your gut bacteria to change composition as you age and that some gut bacteria that might be okay for you when you’re very young will indicate bad health if you still have a lot as you age- I’m pretty sure bacteroides was one of those you don’t want to hold onto as you age. This fits in with my theory that though things like animal fat and protein might have had an evolutionary advantage for us at one point - prolly cuz they make us grow to full size faster(def a good thing if you’re a hunter/gatherer), are really bad for longevity.
Thanks, Mic. Very interesting. Will consider. Congrats on your superb-ness. But we knew that already... I echo the sprouts recommendation, and consider also red cabbage, per Dr. Greger. As you demonstrated, dandelion greens should be abundant out there in Iowa-like right outside your door. Salad days, Mic...
And just for anyone who may not know, dandelions are absolutely essential, for bees to survive in early Spring when there isn't much of anything else for them to consume. So never take more than you need, and usually the rule when foraging is only take about one third, ensuring the plant will continue growing in that area. 😊
My bacteroides is really low (2 percent) also, and my prevotella is fairly high, which is consistent with eating a plant based diet. Also, it says that I have too many Actinobacteria and not enough alistepes, and that predisposes me to being heavy (accurate, as I used to be overweight, now I'm on the high end of normal and finding it impossible to lose any more weight). I also have too many Clostridium (2.2 percent). Lactobacilus and Bacilus are slightly lower than they should be. TMA-related bacteria are poor- good thing I decided to give up eating meat (and I do have an uncle that survived stage IV colon cancer). I have IBS-C/SIBO, though it got better on a plant-based diet, I still get occasional constipation or GERD symptoms.

During times of wars, rationing, and austerity, most of the world drinks roasted dandelion tea. A lot of people continue to consume it when the crisis is over because they acquired a taste for its warm nutty flavour. BTW, dandelion was not native to the Americas it was brought to every continent (except Antarctica) where Europeans migrated.
This is awesome!! I would love to know more about the studies about the different little guys you were tested for (I read a book where they were called "gut buddies" and it stuck in my brain this way). I very much enjoyed watching your videos on the studies on good cholesterol and bad cholesterol and for the past few years each time I got tested, my numbers were almost exactly the same as yours and I was told that my HDL was too low, yet I wasn't sure how much I trusted that "too low" was actually a thing (at least at my levels). This makes me wonder if the gut cultivates more of certain species than others when consuming a non-vegan diet, and those species aid in processing the animal foods, thereby not being needed so much in someone who doesn't consume animal products? If you've delved in to those studies, I would be fascinated to hear your take.
isn't there a link between low fat diets and low lactobacillus? also high amounts of garlic destroy both good and bad gut bacteria, so maybe cut out garlic for a month completely and see if it swings up

@@Vanessa-bk4nv I usually put two apples or an apple and a pear cut into wedges. Also a half teaspoon of dried ginger, half teaspoon of whole fennel seed, teaspoon of anise seed and if I have some dried fruit around I will even add that as well. Needless to say with a cup of oats and all the different additions I have to use about 4 and a bit cups of water. I just mix and match with the oats and red lentils as the base. And I always add a huge handful of the greens as well. Sounds like a lot, but between the girlfriend and I it is just perfect.
I had no idea there was type of test available! 😮 This should be very helpful with my Crohn's disease!
Since you have very elevated percentages of some good bacteria, obviously you must have lower than"normal" percentages of other bacteria.
What if it is normal to have less than the maximum number of bacteria? Then there would be room for normal levels of all the bacteria and room for some more than normal.
I have pcos I'm wanting to try a whole plant based vegan diet, where do I even start any suggestions

my thoughts as well
My bacteroides is really low (2 percent) also, and my prevotella is fairly high, which is consistent with eating a plant based diet.
Hello mic and have you thought about live streaming on twitch and starting your own podcast in the future
Maybe if my TH-cam collapses, don't want to spread myself too thin for now though.
okay that good and have you seen coming 2 america movie and to all the boys i'v love movie and wonderwomen 2 movie and the justice league snyder cut movie and marvel wandavision show and the falcon and winter soldier show and bridgerton show on netflix and what do you think of the super bowl game and the halftime show with the weekend last month ago
@@MictheVegan but, still podcast is a very good solution...
I feel sometimes that the videos are on the short side... Like here, with the gut, imagine interviewing a gut specialist... And you could pick things related with your study/work...One podcast every 2-3 weeks... pretty please! :-)
There is no ideal gut. No matter what kind of diversity is has, it is perfect when the individual is healthy.
Thank you Mic.
Great video!!
Better start slamming that dandelion tea mic
That's some good shit.
Great vid! I've been wanting to do this. Does this company also test for parasites? Ty !
Mic the Vegan knows his shit.
MIKE: I did U-biome a few years ago. I was low in some allegedly good bacteria, and high in a couple bad ones. That was lacto-ovo me. It was also a free test, with a lower number of tested for bacteria, and I haven't seen ads for it in a while. I can't pay for tests, but I wonder if my Medicare/Medicaid might?
I can relate to your failure to eat salad. I do pretty well on broccoli though.
can you do a video on what you ate to create the biodiversity of healthy bacteria in your gut?
Do they let you download a CSV file? As a programmer, I would love to get my hands on a copy of the CSV file if they have one. Would like to extend my app that parses this kind of data. If they have one, would you be interested in giving me a copy of it?
Great info.
Hey Mic try dandy blend! It's made with the dandelion root. Tastes like coffee and it's not bitter like the flower!😂
...and goes really well with oat milk and soy milk also...not so much with almond milk!
During times of wars, rationing, and austerity, most of the world drinks roasted dandelion tea. A lot of people continue to consume it when the crisis is over because they acquired a taste for its warm nutty flavour. BTW, dandelion was not native to the Americas it was brought to every continent (except Antarctica) where Europeans migrated.
that doesn't have the fiber though
I wanna get this test so bad!!!
9:17 this is what people think vegans do for a light snack
9:17 😂😂😂😂😂hahahahaha.
love it.
But seriously I always like dandelion leaves.. most nutrients ever.
isn't there a link between low fat diets and low lactobacillus? also high amounts of garlic destroy both good and bad gut bacteria, so maybe cut out garlic for a month completely and see if it swings up
Interesting in its way. Thanks. I too just don't like salads. I'm basically Whole Food Fully Plant Based, have fruit and steamed vegetables aplenty, but salads: even if I buy the vegetables I keep procrastinating about eating them and finally they spoil, or end up getting cooked. Even light steaming is fine, but raw - no!
Yes to sponsorship! But no to mid-roll ads.
OMG I PISSED MY SELF LAUGHING WHEN YOU ATE THE DANDELION!! 😂😂😂😂
Yeah I lost it.
he's gotta try dandelion greens
Well Dandelion is completly eatable.. :) and healthy
I eat chrysanthemum, lily, Japanese honeysuckle flower, rose, rosella, osmanthus, jasmine, chamomile, butterfly pea.
I always eat dried flower form brewed with hot water or simmered as savory watery soup along with other ingredients =P
Frankly speaking they taste good!
Thanks Mic! I ordered the kit as I have intense inflammation. My rheumatologist ordered me to try the autoimmune protocol diet which is meat heavy so hoping this test can help me decide what diet to follow! Sad that I seem to be pushed towards meat😭
Have you tried vegan, high fruit, high carb, low fat diet?
@@jessican9778 no gluten and grains are inflaming me
@@ymctjmt Just in case you haven't heard of him, check out Gojiman.
How are u now ?!
@@samiiir7090 took the test found out I had a 77% good balance. I ate more of the foods they recommended so I get a better balance. Took supplements for 3 months waiting for results back anyday now. I feel better. Still avoid gluten and watch dairy and onions but definitely better with pain and bloating and better IBS symptoms.
bum roll Lmao!
Man, I only know about Shiitake mushroom... awww my favourite!
How fascinating to keep discover new edible food especially those non-animal food wow
I wonder how they taste hehe
Great video Mic the vegan showing how he is thriving on a whole foods plant based vegan diet.
in 5:40 he says that the Bacteroides are consuming animal fat and therefore he has a lower number, but the cited study says: PROTEIN and animal fat.
Bottom line: maybe lower the carbs, and increase fat and protein? so instead of high carb low fat, how about: moderate fat, carb and protein?
Super curious if you're getting only "good" reports sent in from other people or if there's a range .. or if there even would be a range with your followers since we're all (most?) vegan/plant-based. Congrats on the good flora
I'll volunteer to eat the vegan junk food and take the test! Literally just polished off a pack of oreos while watching this sooooo shouldn't be too hard
You will be high is Lactobacillus oreous
Too much refined fat and processed sugar, whole foods will always be superior
@@mars9399 do u think i dont know that
@@mars9399 White Rice is great tho, but yea whole foods are good
@@commendedzuez0944 Oof! Pick brown over white every time. Brown rice still contains all the husk, the B vitamins, the fibre. White rice has had all that nutrition refined out. Brown rice, brown pasta, brown bread, potatoes with their skins still on. It's all good. :-)
Gojiman.. what you think of this test?
