I don’t know why TH-camrs keep telling us that APSC lenses are cheaper. 1) it takes an F/2.8 to give the same results on APSC as an F/4 lens on FF. 2) Yet there really aren’t any first party 2.8 zooms specifically for APSC so we have to buy the FF lenses anyway paying for a larger image circle we aren’t using. 3) Since 2020, Sony has released only 2 new lenses for APSC (11 and 15 designed for vloggers) - both primes, on the other hand there have been 20 releases for FF (approximately half prime half zoom). So those lenses are getting newer technology, better quality and so for bang for buck are better value. The APSC crowd are paying for old tech and have to move to 3rd party if they want anything new. Yet these same TH-camrs are all walking around with either FF or are using both. It looks to me that Sony is indeed abandoning the APSC market other than for the vlogging crowd.

The Viltrox is roughly a 20mm 2.1 FF equivalent weighing 420g, while the Sony 20mm 1.8 weighs 373g. These were my justifications to leave Fuji and buy a used A7C. I was finding that Fuji lenses were heavier and more expensive than similar performing Sony lenses, without having the advantages of Full Frame.
I'm also currently a long-time Fuji shooter with the exact same plan of moving to a used a7c. Have you had any regrets so far? I literally took photos of my lenses getting ready to list them for sale today.
@@nasri honestly it depends which Fuji you have. Going to the A7C from the XT4 the things I missed most were the EVF, and good ergonomics as far as button customization and stuff. I basically got two kits for the same price. One, a Sony A7C with the Sony 20mm 1.8 and Sony 40mm 2.5g. The other kit was a A7IV with the Tamron 20-40 2.8. Everything is used pricing so prices for both these kits were the same. I wasn’t a huge fan of the tamron on the A7C because it doesn’t have an aperture ring and the a7C doesn’t have a front dial to control aperture. I ended up keeping the A7IV with the Tamron lens because the EVF is as good as the XT4, the ergonomics are excellent, and the overall kit weight in my sling is actually less than the A7C kit, and significantly less than my previous Fuji travel kit (XT4, Sigma 18-50 and either 10-24 or viltrox 13mm) I do not regret it at all! The image quality is amazing. I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it looks in low light at 2.8 when I shot a practice mockumentary. I also shot a concert with the tamron 20-40 and Sony 85mm 1.8 I borrowed and the images are amazing (granted you also have to know how to use the camera) The A7C was still great though especially with the little G lens, but the lack of a front dial and the TINY Evf were a deal breaker coming from the XT4 especially.
SUPERB PRESENTATION! Production values are amazing! New subscriber - One very small critique is you cram SO MUCH info in your video that you are relegated to speeding up your delivery to the point where it is hard for us to assimilate everything! Other than that - top notch!! I have the A7C as my second camera on 2 camera shoots and I love it. I added the SmallRig cage with the chunkier softer handle though and that makes a big difference. THANKS MAN!!!
Amazing video! Definitely would love to see a lot more real world footage & photos taken from a6700 as a real world usage review. Would that be possible ?
… great video! 👍🏻 let’s be real: the a6700 is in all aspects better for filming, excepts the benefits of the larger sensor (low light, shallow depth of fields etc.) … great camera in a small body!
@@thefilmalliance About the 4K 120 with a very heavy crop, and also there is a huge problem - the small form factor and a lack of the active cooling (a fan) is causing a HUGE overheating in 4K 120 and the camera will shut down after about 15-20 minutes, so practically this mode is almost useless. If someone wants to record video in 4K 120 he should go with the FX30
@@מיכאלקונטרוביץ dude, who's gonna shoot 4k 120 for 15-20min? Geez, it's only for an instant moment to take super slowmo. Never in my life i take 120/180/240 for more than 30sec.

My A6700 arrived yesterday. Already have the ZV-E10 and a handful of lenses to go with it, so the A6700 made sense. Plus, I'm old... Full frame lenses are heavy...
For wedding photography and videography? Which one is better?? I have that question. A6700, a7c or a7iii. Today going to buy my first Sony camera. And have that range of budget. Can you help me?
Damn man, those edits in the beginning of the comparison are great. I wasn't even paying attention to the actual facts. I just Bought my a7C because of the full frame sensor and I got a good deal on a pre loved unit. But both these cameras are crazy good. Again. Crazy video!
I choose the A6700 over the A7c for the more features on the A6700, as for ISO Noise being slightly higher then on the A7c, using a fast lens and Topaz Denoise software solves the problem.
I really hope the A7CII has some great upgrades like the A6700 - That would seal the deal for me. I dont use zoom lenses so the overall weight would be manageable.
@@thefilmalliance I started out in photography only a few years ago with my APS-C Canon T7i + 50mm EF 1.8 + 30mm EF 2. Considering both my lenses are full frame canon, logic would suggest i stay with a canon full frame DSLR but i am ready to make the switch to full frame mirrorless photography (no videography) and invest in that system. The main reason i hope to go with the A7Cii is for its size and weight, if they keep the features compelling and in line with the A6700.
I just upgraded to the a6700, I had been using the Sony a6500. The reason I updated my camera for the improvement in auto focus performance. As I get older and my eyes get worse, I need all the help I can get.
@@thefilmalliance Yes, I have received my a6700. I ordered the body only as I already have a 50mm 1.8, a 16-50 kit lens and my favorite - the 70-350 which on my camera is like a 100-525mm.
@@ScrapsArt so far, I have been really impressed. My wife is an actor at an outdoor theater, they perform from 2030-2230. There are spotlights but lighting is not ideal. I will say that when I take photos during their show- I do keep the camera in auto mode. The lighting changes between scenes and the camera is smart enough to get great images. I did use the auto framing for a few videos. That is such an incredible feature that I need to go invest in a lawn chair while shooting videos. The a6700 will lock onto the eyes of a person on its own, which is the main reason for me upgrading from the a6500. As my eyes get more and more outta whack, I need all the autofocus help I can get. We are going on vacation in a few weeks and hope to get some great photos and videos.
Man this video is intense! Great info! I have the a7rv but can’t decide if I want the 6700 or the a7cii. It will be for the days I don’t want to lug a bigger camera and also travel. I will def do some video but I’m thinking since the rv doesn’t have as great low light performance when shooting photos that I’ll grab the benefit of still being full frame with better low light on a7cii but I’m afraid of the price! Apsc doesn’t do bad and is very tempting.
Hi Andy, Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it. I love the lens options aspect of the a6700. You can get a lot of good quality aps-c lenses on a budget.
I love what you’ve been able to accomplish with this video. I just purchased the A6700 and have the new Sony ECM-M1 mic. I am thrilled with both purchases so far. I need to get all those shots in and all that editing. 😮 I put music in my videos and I don’t feel like the sound isn’t quite right. The sound is amazing on my Sony mic so hopefully I can get the music right finally.
Thank you! It was all I needed to know to decide on my purchase! I was postponing for 2 years the purchase of an A7C but now I think I will go with the A6700 as it checks all the boxes. I don't own any camera at the moment and looking for something for the next 5 years at least. Arthur R has also a good video comparison of the photo quality between the A7C and A6600 but I don't think that any of us would observe the differences with your bare eyes. It is a tough decision as they are priced in the same category +/- Thanks again!
Bro which camera is better for me... I am juss shooting music videos and some times weddings... Please suggest me best camera among these cameras.... Sony A7c or A6700.... Please reply me bro
It’s a common dilemma, and I’m happy to help you navigate the choices. If you’re feeling stuck, my course “Which Camera Should I Buy” and free camera quiz are designed to break down the decision-making process and point you in the right direction. Have you taken either?
I have a really big dilemma, friend of mine is selling A7c for a cheaper price than A6700 new. I really like A6700 active stabilization, but I found myself that I don't actually shoot videos frequently. Also I like the newest software and AI chip. But at the same time, there's a quite good deal and FF 😅 I'm really struggling BTW, I'm a beginner in photography
I'm giving up my a6400 to upgrade to a7c. I think crop will never compete with a FF, that's why the a7c now is still hold its price for its value 😊 you can utilize a lot advantage from a FF censor
Amazing video. Love your style. Have you done on overheating check on the 4k 24fps ? There's been a lot of recent news on how the a6700 shuts down after ~18min of 4k 24p -- did you run any of these tests (in outside hot weather, for example?). Loyal a6300 user here hahah. Thank you!
no problem! is there any chance you could do a quick test for me? I'm about to do the purchase? Just leave it recording at 4k 10bit for 20 minutes (if it survives 20min, then that's good enough for my purposes!) I'll greatly appreciate it! (you've already gotten my sub!)@@thefilmalliance
Checking in with you to tel you my overheating 4k24 results. I did 4k24 stabilization and autofocus on and we went to 1 hour and 40 mins - no overheating. I stopped it because that’s a PASS for me
There is no doubt that the a6700 is an underrated camera. Many performances have surpassed the full-frame cameras of the same level. It is small and light, and the most important thing is the price. I have always used the full-frame before. The a6700 is the first super35 camera I bought.
Very informative, nice graphics and good choice for background music...great work 👍 Between these two, A6700...but a little bit hesitant due to the sensor size regarding the low light performance, will probably go with the Lumix S5 (possibly MK II)
Thanks a ton, well what will you be using it for? Low light performance isn’t that bad, it’s just pretty bad when you compare to full frame but compared to a 1 inch sensor it’s soooo good
@@thefilmalliance It looks very good for that sensor size, judging by all the footage I've seen so far, and considering all the features it has, it's definitely worth considering. I'll be using it mainly for low light, cinematic style music videos so... that's pretty much the only concern I have regarding this model. Apart from that, it seems pretty impresive.
I want to use my camera as a video creator but i guess that apc cameras can't be professional as full frame camera. Now I want to ask you ... If you want to start your videographey like advertising some businesses .... wich camera would you buy??
@@thefilmalliance oh okay. Because you made me doubt about my a6700 purchase 🥲 I thought I should have bought the A7C instead if it could Shoot 10 bit even externally. But great comparison 👍🏻
Your videos are awesome! Excellent editing. I have sony a6300 currently and want to upgrade for hdr video but confused with which to choose a7c or a6700 both price are similar to me. Considering a7c2 which is very expensive.
Excellent video, really detailed and helpful, and with excellent production. I'm torn between the a6700 and the a7c (or maybe the a7cii when it comes out). I'm considering the a7c option and occasionally using an aps-c lens in crop mode when travelling, and just sacrificing resolution for the sake of portability. I'd be really keen to hear your thoughts on how the 2 cameras compare when using the same aps-c lens, particularly at high iso. Essentially I'm curious if the full frame sensor in crop mode still looks clean with enough detail compared to the a6700, when viewing at reasonable size. Appreciate you probably have a lot of requests but would be great to hear your thoughts if you have the time!
@happium4118 Hi! So I went with the a6700 and have been very happy with it. Noise is pretty well controlled and good enough for my needs, particularly with the most recent noise reduction tools in lightroom. I did actually do some tests in a camera shop with an a7iv in crop mode compared to an a6700 and there wasn't much in it. The conclusion I've come to is, if you're going to use zoom lenses and you want a compact setup, go with the a6700. If you're predominantly going to use primes, go with the a7c or a7cII. Theres a lot of small full frame primes now, and some fairly affordable third party ones. It seems that for every fast (f1.4) aps-c prime, there seems to be an equivalent full frame lens that's about the same size in the f1.8 to f2.8 range, but with the full frame camera probably having 1-2 stops advantage in image quality. So having the full frame might edge it and give more room to expand in future.
@@rossmpt I have a superzoom canon sx60hs all these years. Loved it during the first few years but now with the mobile camera doing so good in low light, I have now developed a disliking for bulky cameras. I want to travel light. I am thinking of getting a tamron 17-70. And a light but useful body.
@happium4118 I've got the sigma 18-50 f2.8 on the sony a6700 and it's a brilliant combo! You lose a bit of range over the tamron but it's much lighter and smaller. Would definitely recommend.

(I don't really care about the size or the price of the lens, but more about the image quality, focus breathing, etc). Thanks a lot for your suggestions.
@thefilmalliance Yes i've seen your shots, the kit lens is good. The only bad thing in video (for me) is the aperture that is not constant, so you need to play with your ISO when you zoom to compensate the lost of luminosity. Apart from that, this kit lens is really good, compact, lightweight, and stabilised (Optical SteadyShot) for handheld shooting. Thanks a lot for your answer ! 🙂
I am already an A7C owner, and I got myself an open box, (64 shots), silver top, model with the kit lens for $1200 USD during a post Christmas sale(Jan2024). Don’t know the condition of your sub $1000 A7C, but for the joy I have had and the terrific images it has returned me, if I didn’t have one I’d buy with both hands at sub $1000, (assuming it was in good condition).
Nice a6700 features but very noisy even at 3200 iso for photos. A7C images are clean up to 6400 iso. Great for indoor shots without flash like in museums, train stations, restaurants etc.
@@thefilmalliance depends on who you are. As a hobbyist - I don’t get paid for it so the extra money on bodies lenses and accessories isn’t a necessary cost to make travel and mini personal doc videos to share on YT.
🤣🤣 But honestly, All A6700 has over the A7C is the New AI stuff which isn't that different. I mean A7C is already more than enough on that autofocus, It's also same price and to get crop frame lenses, you'll be stuck with mediocre glass. Getting the full frame from the start is the best choice. I got 18mm 2.8 Rokinon that is pretty awesome in all vlog situations thanks to the full frame low light capabilities. That lens is like 230 $ or something Let's see how such a lens will do after the crop factor and the smaller sensor on an A6700. And i don't have to even talk about how portable and light weight is this setup or how cheap is that lens yet so sharp and fast at focus. Throw that 18mm on A6700 and you have 27mm and noise. The cost diff becomes more of a factor if you’re buying many lenses over time. I went with the full frame A7C myself, and while I wonder if the grip of the A6700 would be more comfortable to hold, or if I would have enjoyed the handheld video stabilization more with the A6700, the fantastic full frame images, (even in low light), that I wouldn’t have otherwise gotten really dispel those doubts.
Yes, I could do that and plan to in the future. Thank you
… great video! 👍🏻 let’s be real: the a6700 is in all aspects better for filming, excepts the benefits of the larger sensor (low light, shallow depth of fields etc.) … great camera in a small body!
Yes and can film in 4K 120!
Never in my life i take 120/180/240 for more than 30sec.

great video.
Is the Sony a7c camera suitable for long-term filming? For example, two hours of non-stop record? Doesn't the temperature of the camera rise?

yes, it doesn't overheat like A6700
My A6700 arrived yesterday. Already have the ZV-E10 and a handful of lenses to go with it, so the A6700 made sense. Plus, I'm old... Full frame lenses are heavy...

Thank you man really appreciate it
What’s better for portrait photography like weddings, sweet 16, etc?

Damn man, those edits in the beginning of the comparison are great. I wasn't even paying attention to the actual facts. I just Bought my a7C because of the full frame sensor and I got a good deal on a pre loved unit. But both these cameras are crazy good.
Again. Crazy video!
Man, your edits are flipping amazing!! I just ordered the 6700. Thanks
Awesome! Thank you man means a lot
I just got the a6700 on Monday. Been loving it so far!
Awesome man, what lens did you go with?
@@thefilmalliance 18-135, looking for a good prime lens right now? Any suggestions on a good prime APS-C?
@thefilmalliance so currently I'm rocking the a6700, rx10 markiv, zv-1, Osmo action 4, insta 360 one RS, and the original Osmo action 1.
@thefilmalliance also want to give you props on your channel. Your channel was a big motivator for when I got the ZV-1. Love your content
Is the Sony a 6700 a good choice for a first camera?
What do you recommend for a beginner for a video podcast with sometimes photography?
August 29th 🎉 A7Cii A7Cr 16-35mm f2.8 GM II…! 😊 Definitely worth waiting the month to review the new A6700 vs the new full frame IMHO.
That sounds exciting
I choose the A6700 over the A7c for the more features on the A6700, as for ISO Noise being slightly higher then on the A7c, using a fast lens and Topaz Denoise software solves the problem.
I really hope the A7CII has some great upgrades like the A6700 - That would seal the deal for me. I dont use zoom lenses so the overall weight would be manageable.
I hear ya. It will be interesting to see. What lenses are you using?
@@thefilmalliance I started out in photography only a few years ago with my APS-C Canon T7i + 50mm EF 1.8 + 30mm EF 2. Considering both my lenses are full frame canon, logic would suggest i stay with a canon full frame DSLR but i am ready to make the switch to full frame mirrorless photography (no videography) and invest in that system. The main reason i hope to go with the A7Cii is for its size and weight, if they keep the features compelling and in line with the A6700.
Great review! I am thinking about getting the A6700 as a travel camera and a B-Cam to my FX30.
Very best kind of reviewing the camera comparison 😊👍
Thank you! Which would you choose?
I just upgraded to the a6700, I had been using the Sony a6500. The reason I updated my camera for the improvement in auto focus performance. As I get older and my eyes get worse, I need all the help I can get.
I hear ya, me too. Yes the autofocus is unbelievable. Did you receive your a6700 yet?
@@thefilmalliance Yes, I have received my a6700. I ordered the body only as I already have a 50mm 1.8, a 16-50 kit lens and my favorite - the 70-350 which on my camera is like a 100-525mm.
@@oz5wob3 How is the upgrade from a6500?
That’s a tough one. I’d say hold off until A7c II to see what that has to offer. Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. -keeps me going
@@thefilmalliance Would love see an A7C2 and a6700 comparison once the former is realeased.
Thank you. This has been incredibly helpful. I feel like the A7c feels a little bit more darker to the eye
Great video Jo and managed to get it all in my train journey. That's really underwritten my decision to purchase an A6700..Thanks. Andy.
It is a tough decision as they are priced in the same category +/-
Thanks again!
The quality of the review is fantastic! But the flow of words is so high that we got a bit tired…just slow down a bit then it will be perfect ! 👌
Okay, will do. Thanks for the feedback

But at the same time, there's a quite good deal and FF 😅
I'm really struggling
BTW, I'm a beginner in photography
I'm giving up my a6400 to upgrade to a7c. I think crop will never compete with a FF, that's why the a7c now is still hold its price for its value 😊 you can utilize a lot advantage from a FF censor
Another great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you!
No not yet, but I’ll have to tackle that in the next video. Thanks for telling me
no problem! is there any chance you could do a quick test for me? I'm about to do the purchase? Just leave it recording at 4k 10bit for 20 minutes (if it survives 20min, then that's good enough for my purposes!) I'll greatly appreciate it! (you've already gotten my sub!)@@thefilmalliance

What a great video.

If you’re upgrading from a a6500 and only take pics which would be better?
A6700 I think
There is no doubt that the a6700 is an underrated camera. Many performances have surpassed the full-frame cameras of the same level. It is small and light, and the most important thing is the price. I have always used the full-frame before. The a6700 is the first super35 camera I bought.
Yes, I also tested overheating and got over an hour and a half in 4K 24. It’s amazing
You will end up bringing both FF and 6700 everywhere. Save yourself a headache and stick to one system
A great comparison but with the up coming announcement of the a7Cii it seems maybe you should have waited??
I’ll cross that bridge when it gets here
Which camera are you using for this video itself?
Yeah man! This is the video I needed!! THANK YOU!! 💪
Awesome man! Happy to help!
Very informative, nice graphics and good choice for background music...great work 👍
Between these two, A6700...but a little bit hesitant due to the sensor size regarding the low light performance, will probably go with the Lumix S5 (possibly MK II)

What is that filter thingy on the end of the Lense you're filming with??
did you experience overheating on the a6700 with video?
I have the same question. What did you go with?

I have experienced the a6700 to be noisy. And unfortunately I can hear it on my video recording. Have you experienced it?
Thanks for a good video.
Perhaps the stabilization. I had this on my Sony ax-53. put an external mic on. Can be any. Or the quite cheap Ecm-g1.
Do you mean image noise or audio noise?
@@thefilmalliance Like a White noise on the audio. I can hear the camera making a slight noise and the mic picks it up when recording video. Making it a constant backgroud audio noise.
watching this in 0.85x playback speed gives me much better understanding of the video

Choose 10bit easy, a7iv would be better
A lot of users still shoot in 8 bit 1080 though
a6700 or a7iii? which one?
A6700. A7III is way too old.
One big limitation is the lenses you use. Second is your limited video genre; agreed, posting to YT, one cannot see much difference.
Yes, exactly. Thanks
My exact dilema right here 😅
It’s a tough one. What are you leaning towards?
Thank you for this video!! I just bought the Sony A6700 with the kit lens (16-50mm F/3.5-5.6 PZ) and I don't even know if I should get the Tamron 17-70MM F/2.8 or the Sigma 18-50MM F/2.8 DC DN CONTEMPORARY. I need an "all-in-one" lens for weddings filmmaking that's good in low light. What would you buy in my case ? (I don't really care about the size or the price of the lens, but more about the image quality, focus breathing, etc). Thanks a lot for your suggestions.
The kit lens will suit you perfectly. It’s really not all that bad, that’s why I had to include shots I got with it. Did you see my kit lens shots?
@thefilmalliance Yes i've seen your shots, the kit lens is good. The only bad thing in video (for me) is the aperture that is not constant, so you need to play with your ISO when you zoom to compensate the lost of luminosity. Apart from that, this kit lens is really good, compact, lightweight, and stabilised (Optical SteadyShot) for handheld shooting. Thanks a lot for your answer ! 🙂
I got my a7c for $700 so I went with that
That seems like a screaming buy for what you are getting. You get the award on this one.

Sony a6700 vs Sony A7CII might be a better comparison.
I found a a7c for less 1000 dollars is it worth getting it in 2024
I am already an A7C owner, and I got myself an open box, (64 shots), silver top, model with the kit lens for $1200 USD during a post Christmas sale(Jan2024). Don’t know the condition of your sub $1000 A7C, but for the joy I have had and the terrific images it has returned me, if I didn’t have one I’d buy with both hands at sub $1000, (assuming it was in good condition).
so everything in the a6700 is better but there are some sentences about the a7c that are better ?
You pretty much summed it up unless you go down the full frame rabbit hole

Nice a6700 features but very noisy even at 3200 iso for photos. A7C images are clean up to 6400 iso. Great for indoor shots without flash like in museums, train stations, restaurants etc.
Good observation. Yes that full frame A7C produces less noise at higher ISOs which makes it great for low light

The age old argument begins haha
That lens is like 230 $ or something
Let's see how such a lens will do after the crop factor and the smaller sensor on an A6700.
And i don't have to even talk about how portable and light weight is this setup or how cheap is that lens yet so sharp and fast at focus.
Throw that 18mm on A6700 and you have 27mm and noise. A6700 is DOA @@thefilmalliance
@@jaymills1720the cost of Full frame (lenses and bodies), being more expensive than APSC is less of a factor here with these two cameras, as you can find a used (excellent condition full frame A7C), at an almost break even or slightly lower price than an analogous A6700. For lenses If you’re talking only about $100-$200 price diff in lenses for just one or 2 lenses, the argument isn’t tooo strong for cost savings APSC vs FF. I have a gimbal, which offers superior video stabilization to take up for the hand held video stabilization deficit of the A7C vs A6700, for those times I want it and catalyst browse. Other than that for me, While I’m tickled by the thought, I can’t see how I’d ever really go with the A6700 over my A7C.
