that is what I kept thinking....there was about 4 agencies mentioned and several of them sounded exactly the same.....codes, environmental, fire, events......you can't flush a toilet without a permit........there are 300 different zoning groups M1-2........Z9-99.......A12-56.......you can change tires here, but not mount tires on a rim......oh you can change oil here, but you cannot install windshield wipers.......you can rebuild an engine and detail cars, but you cannot polish a bumper.......two government agencies with one person each spent probably an hour looking around a mostly empty building

And its not just time, every one of those hurdles require money. Most go, well how much could approval and inspections with new construction cost? Every step is around a 4 digit number. That's minimum. Wanna build on the coast? Good luck. It gets even crazier once the costal comission gets involved. This is a YEAR minimum process. Which you fund. Then it gets crazy. There's a bird species that nests in your zip code, and we believe will approach endangered in the next hundred years. We need to do a long term study to assess this. Your going to pay for this guy doing his doctorate and his interns and students in a masters program he is head of at some local UC campus. For 2 years. As a former director of environmental, health and safety for several businesses in southern California, I can state that this inspector seems very straight-forward and transparent, but it is never a good idea to volunteer any information other than what is specifically being asked, about the DDE HQ itself, because he can dig deeper and/or make a note to call other state agencies to investigate this site. For example, when he asked Dave questions about what DDE does, Dave should have only answered the question in terms of what DDE does at HQ, not their upcoming trip to Vietnam or other planned activities, especially in CA, and You Tube videos
The real problem was the idiots/lames that attended who engaged in burnouts donuts and illegal street takeover activities. Example, Some idiot wrecked a beautiful 90s Supra that was parked. In a G8 trying to do donuts. Kicking rocks on cars then wrecked, and took off. Hit and run. That’s what lead to all this.
They aren’t going to halt a civil violation inspection because an attorney isn’t there. There is no right to an attorney at an inspection. You seem to be confusing right to counsel during police interrogation for criminal activity.

This is basically just an inspection to make sure that things haven’t changed from what is permitted. A neighbor made a complaint so they are required to follow up. Anything beyond that is just blowing this out of proportion

Cop asks if he's still needed, and the inspector says, (yeah, I got a ping.) When he says that he got a ping, he's actually talking about how one, or all of you, had a warning flash on the screen while looking up your info in the police database. When he did that, your names came up as either being hostile, or for having some kind of uncooperative dealing's with police, hence the ping. The reason he gave you was definitely not the real reason, if that was the case, everyone would be calling for a police escort because they were scarred of the area, and the police don't do that. You can clearly hear him tell the officer that you pinged while looking you up.

They kept it on their property, they didn’t have parties that spilled out into the streets blocking other businesses around the area. That was the issue they had these shipping warehouses blocked with people that were there to attend the block party.

It doesn't need to be private but maybe giving away a certain amount of tickets to enter the party would resolve this, selling tickets would probably open another can of worms but giveaways for entry to the business as a visitor and hosting a closed event style block party would probably get around all this? As someone from the UK, this feels a lot like Clarksons Farm where a couple of loony locals just take a dislike to you so call in the bureaucrats to tie you up in red tape for the next few years and stifle your company.

nah, as the owners, you have a real estate lawyer go over the complex zoning and KNOW if you're in violation before you ever start using it, because if you are, it's your ass, even if you didn't know. just part of the due diligence of running a business. the comments in past videos all warned that holding an event there was going to be an issue, there's a reason hoonigan didn't hold big events there either

The good news is a TSE in LA takes 2-3 days notice and costs $137.80 to make all that fully legal (so a rather minimal burden to put on a large event).

I don't think DDE is manufacturing anything. I'm glad he changed the word to "fabrication". More suitable word to describe the operations within the building.
@@brad741 Light manufacturing is what you list when getting a business license to do fabrication. You don't always get to describe the business exactly, depending on the city and state you just get a list of examples to choose from.
You are 100% within the Light Manufacturing zoning rules. You could fully ramp up to doing complete engine rebuilds and its still within the zoning use. Doing burnouts in the parking lot may be a stretch of what's legally allowed from an air/noise perspective, but meh. Now you may have some minor code violations. At most they will give you a small ticket, however 98% of the time they will say "go get X", "get more fire extinguishers", "you need an exit sign here", "you cannot have this within 5 feet of an exit", "you need a trip cover on this power cord", etc write those on a list and give you X months before they come back. That is just completely normal...very few times do inspectors show up and say nothing should change, but they are there to check boxes on a form, they aren't going to do anything about it.
That’s business are usual in our country. Minimum one times at each year and is something happening, we must follow the order and they coming second time within one year. If not change must pay some punishment and insurance will increase. After more trouble for not following the rules about safety or business rules, they will close your business.
So the business owner down the street got his panties in a twist about one event and called the city. How about monitoring his business and returning the favor.

Dave tried to talk to the owner of the business but the owner refused to talk to him to try to resolve the issue which is odd. It was one occasion not multiple inconveniences. DDE seems to try to be professional with what they do. In the video the guys mentioned that there are often trucks that block the DDE business entry and exit points and can’t exit their property. Without knowing more, it is possible that the trucks belong to the complaining business.That event took place at night not during normal business hours. No one mentioned what kind of business the complaining owner has. Difficult to say without knowing more if the business was significantly impacted or not. DDE hired 16 security guards to try to control things but it appears the event got much bigger than expected. DDE should have gotten a permit for the event. I’m sure they learned a lot from that experience.

From some who deals with government oversight, do not volunteer information unless asked. The more information you give the more they have to use against you.
There is a very good chance the city either boots them from that building or revokes their business license. Doing crazy burnouts and making a bunch of smoke as well as those car meets with people bouncing off the rev limiter all night are things the city will frown on. The only place to get away with that would be in the middle of nowhere not right in the middle of the busiest industrial areas in the country.

Damon and Dave keep stress low, I deal with multiple State Officials across the US for residential and commercial permits. Don't let them see you sweat. Remember as tenants you can also reach out to your local officials; building, electric, fire, construction, director or the mayor to get ahead of the issue before anyone in the local office makes an official decision. The local official still needs to make an unbiased decision to satisfy both parties. In the event that the ruling is not in DDEs then an appeal process could be taken with a city board. P.S. I doubt the city would want any public press with the scaling and size of DDE members.

that is what I kept thinking....there was about 4 agencies mentioned and several of them sounded exactly the same.....codes, environmental, fire, events......you can't flush a toilet without a permit........there are 300 different zoning groups M1-2........Z9-99.......A12-56.......you can change tires here, but not mount tires on a rim......oh you can change oil here, but you cannot install windshield wipers.......you can rebuild an engine and detail cars, but you cannot polish a bumper.......two government agencies with one person each spent probably an hour looking around a mostly empty building

And its not just time, every one of those hurdles require money. Most go, well how much could approval and inspections with new construction cost? Every step is around a 4 digit number. That's minimum. Wanna build on the coast? Good luck. It gets even crazier once the costal comission gets involved. This is a YEAR minimum process. Which you fund. Then it gets crazy. There's a bird species that nests in your zip code, and we believe will approach endangered in the next hundred years. We need to do a long term study to assess this. Your going to pay for this guy doing his doctorate and his interns and students in a masters program he is head of at some local UC campus. For 2 years. As a former director of environmental, health and safety for several businesses in southern California, I can state that this inspector seems very straight-forward and transparent, but it is never a good idea to volunteer any information other than what is specifically being asked, about the DDE HQ itself, because he can dig deeper and/or make a note to call other state agencies to investigate this site. For example, when he asked Dave questions about what DDE does, Dave should have only answered the question in terms of what DDE does at HQ, not their upcoming trip to Vietnam or other planned activities, especially in CA, and You Tube videos

Cop asks if he's still needed, and the inspector says, (yeah, I got a ping.) When he says that he got a ping, he's actually talking about how one, or all of you, had a warning flash on the screen while looking up your info in the police database. When he did that, your names came up as either being hostile, or for having some kind of uncooperative dealing's with police, hence the ping. The reason he gave you was definitely not the real reason, if that was the case, everyone would be calling for a police escort because they were scarred of the area, and the police don't do that. You can clearly hear him tell the officer that you pinged while looking you up.

They kept it on their property, they didn’t have parties that spilled out into the streets blocking other businesses around the area. That was the issue they had these shipping warehouses blocked with people that were there to attend the block party.

The good news is a TSE in LA takes 2-3 days notice and costs $137.80 to make all that fully legal (so a rather minimal burden to put on a large event).

@@brad741 Light manufacturing is what you list when getting a business license to do fabrication. You don't always get to describe the business exactly, depending on the city and state you just get a list of examples to choose from.
You are 100% within the Light Manufacturing zoning rules. You could fully ramp up to doing complete engine rebuilds and its still within the zoning use. Doing burnouts in the parking lot may be a stretch of what's legally allowed from an air/noise perspective, but meh. Now you may have some minor code violations. At most they will give you a small ticket, however 98% of the time they will say "go get X", "get more fire extinguishers", "you need an exit sign here", "you cannot have this within 5 feet of an exit", "you need a trip cover on this power cord", etc write those on a list and give you X months before they come back. That is just completely normal...very few times do inspectors show up and say nothing should change, but they are there to check boxes on a form, they aren't going to do anything about it.

Dave tried to talk to the owner of the business but the owner refused to talk to him to try to resolve the issue which is odd. It was one occasion not multiple inconveniences. DDE seems to try to be professional with what they do. In the video the guys mentioned that there are often trucks that block the DDE business entry and exit points and can’t exit their property. Without knowing more, it is possible that the trucks belong to the complaining business.That event took place at night not during normal business hours. No one mentioned what kind of business the complaining owner has. Difficult to say without knowing more if the business was significantly impacted or not. DDE hired 16 security guards to try to control things but it appears the event got much bigger than expected. DDE should have gotten a permit for the event. I’m sure they learned a lot from that experience.

Never answer the door when city officials show up. You aren't required to help them. Make them get an appointment and have a lawyer present during any further visits.

There is a very good chance the city either boots them from that building or revokes their business license. Doing crazy burnouts and making a bunch of smoke as well as those car meets with people bouncing off the rev limiter all night are things the city will frown on. The only place to get away with that would be in the middle of nowhere not right in the middle of the busiest industrial areas in the country.
@@fastfreeks honestly I can agree with the burnouts and crazy parking lot fun. But…. Only if it was at a hour to which the area was getting ready for bed etc…. All the stuff they are doing (inside that fenced area) is no different than running heavy equipment or other large equipment in a “Commercial” business location. The neighbor right next to them have no issues. Just a neighbor across the way. Far enough that he isn’t bothered by the noise, just doesn’t “Like” what’s going on. JMO

Damon and Dave keep stress low, I deal with multiple State Officials across the US for residential and commercial permits. Don't let them see you sweat. Remember as tenants you can also reach out to your local officials; building, electric, fire, construction, director or the mayor to get ahead of the issue before anyone in the local office makes an official decision. The local official still needs to make an unbiased decision to satisfy both parties. In the event that the ruling is not in DDEs then an appeal process could be taken with a city board.
P.S.
I doubt the city would want any public press with the scaling and size of DDE members.
