The Dulano range from LIDL is the best of the bunch. Their Frank's, Brats and Bocks are the best of any supermarket. The Brats are 92% pork as well iirc.

Usually only buy them when they are on offer to be fair and then put a couple of packs in the freezer 👍🏻 Good video again Gareth 👍🏻
Has he tried the Gilbert Chicago beef American hot dogs from Tesco’s yet ? Me and a friend are trying to find a proper American hotdog in the uk and these are next on the list
Try Dino's famous big dogs. Proper american style humongous meaty hot dogs. And do them american style so grill them rather than boil them. Throw into a soft, warmed brioche roll with mustard - Dijon is best but american works well - throw in some soft fried onions - not cremated like in the video - and chopped up vinegared pickles and jalapenos. Spot on
Love how Gareth has a script reading the comparison between the 2 products 😂😂😂 Also I find the best way to cook hotdogs is either the oven or the grill
I really struggle with mass produced hotdogs like that. They were alright when I was 15 but now I’m 50 I just would never buy them. Especially when there are loads of gourmet hot dog sausages out there. Nice review dude, and happy Easter.
@@andywatts8654 well you're clearly a lot younger than me, when you reach 50 you have to pay attention - diabetes, cholesterol - they all start coming for you.
A bit unfair that one has all the onions [and yes, they are a must]. Either way, German food designation standards require that "Frankfurters" must be all pork, so they both got that right. It's very dissapointing when you look at the ingredients and they've thrown in chicken too 'cos it's cheaper. Good review, as always.
I've been buying Hertas for many years now but the last couple of times, I've noticed a change. I always griddle them so they get a nice char on them and the amount of water coming out of them is ridiculous. They also don't get that 'bite' that you used to get with them and have noticeably less flavour. Think I'll try the alternatives from now on.
I remember eating franks and potato salad from a stall in Hamburg in the late 1960s. The ones they sell now are nothing like they used to be back them. I miss the crack of biting through the skin, and having the "juice" run out.
Mechanically recovered meat plus bollocks anuses snouts intestines in fact anything from the pig carcass can legally be described as ‘meat’-add chemical E numbers and cheapo spices/herbs for flavouring and you’ve got yourself a legal heart attack on a plate, no wonder the NHS is overloaded!!

The Herta say 73% pork meat and then list pork fat separately. The Aldi say 75% pork but don’t list pork fat separately. I usually buy the Lidl ones which I think are cheaper? If I haven’t got a hot dog bun I take a slice of white and wrap it around the Frank with some Dijon and Ketchup.
I wish American style beef hotdogs were more common in the UK. You can get them but not in any of the big supermarkets and I'm not sure why. In my local Sainsbury's and Tesco, they have an imported food section and there were several "American style" hotdogs but on closer inspection they were imported from Germany and were pork based. Fairer comparison would have been with the 10 pack of Herta frankfurters, they are £2.25 and I’ve tried both and prefer the taste and texture of the Herta ones.
Germany has stricter rules when it comes to their sausages and they have been in place often for hundreds of years, so the Aldi ones are probably closer to a proper German Frankfurter but still not as good as the best I would think. Order some from an online company called The Sausage Man who specialise in quality German made sausages and compare them with the cheaper ones. The difference is quite stark, although they are more expensive as a result.

Hey Gaz i get the ones from Tesco called Dino's Famous Big Dogs, they cost £5 but they're huge and very tasty indeed 😋
Afternoon Gareth Great vlog on frankfurters. No mad on them but my late husband liked them. Not a lot of difference. Glad you enjoyed them both but like you say, Must have onion with the frankfurter. Thank you Gareth Sue
Thanks 👍
Much thanks as always for your execllent content. You brighten my days and teach me along the way.
My pleasure!
The onion part🤣
Compare these to the rollover hotdogs. There class !
Im a chef and next time you cut something in the cutting board put a dishclot or a baize underneath to prevent moving it.
I pan fry my Frankfurters with onion, they are delicious pan fried , much better than heated in water in my opinion .
