Said it before Magnus is creating chaos his opponents in these blitz games are overwhelmed with attacks from left right and centre , the good thing about this is Magnus isn’t afraid to lose that gives him the edge over his opponents, great vid man 👍
It's not "toying" with them at all. What makes you think it's a bad opening? This isn't a bad opening except according to computers. For blitz it puts questions to the opponent and is a fine opening. Stop listening so closely to youtubers and engines and look for yourself. Even looking at the engine the opening went to around -1.6. Some highly theoretical classical lines go to 1.0, for one side or another what about that? It's not a weak opening at all as a surprise in blitz and certainly not some "toying" like a bongcloud.
The thing about the Grob is, as long as you are not playing against a computer, there will be fatal mistakes in going against it. I've had some wild games with it.
Zilbermint's gambit (Grob version) is basically an improved version of the Englund gambit since the g pawn prevents black from defending their pawn with knight f6
The uploader is treating this in a really false way. This wasn't a joke opening, a weakening opening or anything like that, it's a real attempt and it worked.
Magnus intimidates his opponents which is understandable...they look for escapes which aren't necessary as they don't know his objectives (he probably just wants to mix it up thru boredom with the same old theories). What a refreshing and great player he is! Hikaru and the GOAT have made chess so popular with their brilliant minds and entertainment. Their personalities shine thru as well, as opposed to the robotic reactions of 99% of other GMs
I wish he would do this in top level chess...once in a while. In a world where 12 year olds are becoming GMs and strong IMs and are booked up to the max..this is the way to go!
When there are so many system players around, and you crave REAL CHESS, the way to get it is to force players into uncharted territory. Chances are, if they've spent all their time learning systems, their actual chess will be weak, AND they will find your pieces on unexpected squares, which is always great fun. Thank you for your Queen. 😅
Forcing opponents into uncharted positions is nothing new: before 100 years Aljekhine, Nimzowitsch and Tartakower, - all of them Russians - did the same, and before them the great Lasker... Some of them could be still great contemporary chess players. I'm a little bit astonished, that nobody anymore seems to know their wonderful creative style of playing, especially Alekhine seems to be literally banned...do I get that right?
1 g4 d5 2 e4 dxe4 3 Nc3 is called the Zilbermints Gambit. It was invented in 1999 by Lev Zilbermintz, a well-known unorthodox openings player and theoretician. After 3...e5 common is 4 d3, the Zilbermints - Hartlaub Gambit. Another option is 4 Nxe4. The move 4 h4 is very uncommon.
6:44 "Play like an absolute moron for 4-5 moves and then play like a God for the rest of the game." ... Welp, I've got the first half of that strategy down solid. 😂
This actually can be an interesting way to do chess training against a computer programming like Stockfish. Make it start with one or two really bad moves and then try win.
Yes, Magnus's actions are far from honorable. He has reduced the game to primitive psychology, displaying a complete lack of respect for both his opponents and the game. Granted, there is some excuse for such behavior. When you know you are the best, and everyone else knows it too, it’s no longer enough simply to win - you must crush the opponent. A GOAT cannot achieve this in any other way than by imposing a handicap upon themselves. However, Magnus has no path to take the game to new heights. It will never be possible for the human brain to surpass the computer. Thus, his behavior can be seen as a form of capitulation, a reaction to hitting an insurmountable barrier. This is not even a subjective assessment - it is objectively true. It is also an intellectual surrender. He does not win every single game, and he knows improvement is theoretically possible. He has conceded, not because it is impossible, but because he has long recognized that his mind is in decline. He is not as sharp as he once was. Now he has lapsed to what could be considered an unworthy experience.
@@TH-cam_Stole_My_Handle_Tooyou wrote a ton of nonsense he doesn’t have to open the games in the way you’re traditionally used too. He literally just wiped the floor vs a great challenger stop disrespecting both players when you’re not half the competition
Chess today has reached a state that drove Fischer crazy to quit chess and invent his randomized starting back rank game form - openings are by rote memory scholarship. Magnus is a brilliant midgame and endgame player. I think his weird openings and gambits are to get past other GM's preparation to the actual over the board CHESS and on that battlefield he dominates.
You know Magnus is playing like it was Freestyle Chess: he plays move that no computer ever calculated deep enough exactly to prevent lines memorization. That is also the reason why Freestyle Chess (or Fischer-random) should the de-facto modern Chess... with no FIDE around.
It’s awful. Rambles n rambles. He does well with the game. He needs to show the game move by move with short explanations and at the end like a 5-10 min recap. Not in the move by move part.
Way too much commentary. “If Magnus scratches his left testicle before developing his King side bishop his opponent will definitely pick his nose before countering with knight to G7”
Magnus is brilliant at chess but he is human and does occasionally miss things im sure im not the only one whos watched a few of his games and noticed this before not saying any of us would have seen them during game either but its one thing to analyse game after its a different thing actually playing with time pressure
Here's the truth about that though - in spite of how you found a good move that Carlsen missed, Carlsen was better off looking where he was looking, yes despite the fact that you found the right move that particular rare time, Carlsen will find the better move 999 out of 1,000 times while you find it once.
@@Anonymous-g2s 100% agreed like I also said its one thing to analyse a game afterwards and notice these things seeing them during a game is a different thing and even having seen them knowing if playing them is the best move. The new opening is dubbed.."The Magnus Opus"
WORD! Magnus Opus is the name 😊
Terima kasih.
MC loves being called a moron. It's like billionaires buying bicycles when there's no upgrade left in cars.
Supreme confidence from Carlson to make almost the worse possible opening moves to confuse and throw his opponent off standard book moves.
Actually it is a perfectly fine opening. A little less solid than most, but it's completely suitable for online chess.
Zilbermint's gambit (Grob version) is basically an improved version of the Englund gambit since the g pawn prevents black from defending their pawn with knight f6

Anyone who plays the Grob opening is making a huge flex on their opponent. Fascinating game to watch. Thanks 😊
I would call the new opening the Carlsen Claw.
The fact that the Fair Chess Variant ends in draws when played between 2 ideal engines makes almost any first move by white/black playable.

If black played kn to B4 attacking D3 white can Queen check attacking the knight then Qu side castle.
