This is a poll. For future videos, would you like the game to progress more quickly (less commentary & alternative variations, backstory etc) , do you like the video as is, or would you like more commentary/variations? Also let me know your chess rating if you have one anywhere.
I enjoy the commentary as it is currently. I like the backstory. It reminds me of how TH-cam channels like Veritasium talk about the history to accompany whatever science they are talking about. It helps to prime the mind somewhat. I think its a nice touch.
I can get chess analysis/commentary from any number of sources.. The context, history, and stories are why I watch and subscribe. Oh, and of course, the awesome sunglasses.
I am a new viewer, only watched 2 videos from you so far, but will check more. I like the backstory, and I've also liked the pace of the commentary/match. Part of the reason could be the clear way of talking: not too fast, not too slow, and there's a good rhythm and tone in the voice, too. It is a bit similar to Yasser Seirawan in some sense. (And nice cutting of the video, keep it that way, you don't wanna the viewer to get distracted by the cuts)
Backstories are cool, I do not like too many variations, but like to hear what they really played. And I thought about your glasses 🙂 ... I would stay with it.
Usually "you need to know the back story" is followed by a back story that you do not at all need to know. Not here. It is a great troll move. Thanks for the video and the story.
I had the pleasure of meeting Fischer one morning in my local cafe... he was eating at a table near my table ... I politely asked him to pass the salt and pepper.... it took him 20 minutes lol
I got to play him in 64 or 65. Didn't know that much about him or the game then. Got a draw. He was playing six or seven tables at the same time. Found out he was US champion & thought it didn't matter because I had screwed up & gotten the draw through a three move repeat rule. Found out he actually lost to someone else while he was in Wichita. Never saw anyone play that fast just going down the line, table to table & make winning moves each time.
@chrisolson2846 Nah. I got told something like that when I showed a basketball jersey from the Harlem Magicians. Said there was no proof, no autograph. Turns out a super 8 mm film is good enough.
greetings, friend....! one of the things I most enjoy about your channel is the way you provide historical context to the games you comment on - and not just the moves themselves. I remember YEARS ago that Larry Evans had a chess column which Fischer wrote into debunking Evans' analysis of a position writing: "but doesn't N-E6 just bust black...??" - whereupon Evans graciously conceded the point.
@kingface a master of pattern recognition. It was only a matter of time before he ran into a few problems. His background makes his recognizing even more interesting. Abhorrent? Lol
I play a lot of really bad openings because you can easily know them better than your opponent. After his defeat Fischer of course made an effort to know all aspects of the kings gambit - in ways only Fischer could. The black f4 pawn would eventually fall then change into the bishop and queen lined up and the h rook would join the tip of that line then move into the stack on f. The stack only served to force trade. He probably had the position with the h pawn baiting the queen on the board at home. Ending with a stack on the f line was a real tribute to kings gambit. An opening I will never play...NEVER..... haha....
Genius psychology ,Kings gambit is the last thing Evans expects, like when he played D4 against Spassky in his World Championship match. Thanks for the video.
Change nothing! These are great. As to your question, I think Fischer was too much of a materialist to play a bad opening against anyone. He was probably working out his ideas on the Bishop's Gambit, which would start showing up in a few years. Sound reasonable?
@@squareonechess6939 In fact I think that's why Spassky played the gambit, since he wasn't prepared for e5. Interesting to see what variation of the Lopez Fischer would've played, I know of only one game where he actually did play black in it
I remember now why I stopped watching your videos. The tangents are boring the way they're done and a waste of time. Just show what the guys did for God sake and stop wasting our time.
so arrogant coment we usually never see in the chess community, you could just move on or unsubscribe and keep that mouth shut. we do like the background history of games.
Any insight into the mind of Fischer ( the greatest chess player to ever pick up a chess piece) is welcome in my book . You can always go and watch a tiddly winks Chanel 👋👋. 👍😊🏴

He had to consider where to put them to continue strengthening his position.

Signed scoresheet by Fischer or it didnt happen

I like it the way it is. The commentary is relevant and informative.

King's Gambit was the favourite opening of Paul Morphy! Huge respect.
Bobby had an amazing ability to tie his opponents in knots and create multiple threats that could not all be covered.
One of the smartest men to ever live. Wasn’t afraid to speak the truth.

Thanks for this comment, king. Bobby knew. Now everyone nose.
Thanks for the breakdowns
Fischer had hopes for the Bc4 line of the kings gambit. He wasnt wrong either. This opening is what judit polgar used early in her career with success
When I lose I just throw a tantrum
Audacity indeed. Cue Roberto from The Waterboy.
"I saw you on the ESPN"
Wanted to share that the Netflix series, "Queen's Gambit" was based on this... That is all

Fischer only refuted 3. Nf3, but he played 3. Bc4.
Is our guy blind or just a big fan of Corey Hart?
Maybe they have tells in chess like poker?
He wears his sunglasses at night (and day).
sorry for asking, why the sunglasses :) ?
... so it's less obvious he's reading a pre-written script. I love the video though. The sunglasses didn't bother me that much.
Genius psychology ,Kings gambit is the last thing Evans expects, like when he played D4 against Spassky in his World Championship match.
Thanks for the video.
he didn't play 1.d4 he played 1.c4. one of those games he did then play 2.d4 but the other he kept in pure English territory
Later in his career Fischer employed the KG and won!

Spassky was simply brilliant between 1960 and 1970. As for Larry Evans, his contribution towards Fischer's success was immense. Lomabardy too.
Yes he was Like today i dont know Caruana in the shadow of Magnus Spaski was the same Great Tall never beat Spaski so😂
You can also play bishop C5 as black and there is not King Gambite to you 😂
14:53 after Bxf4 why not take the queen? gaining material
Black's bishop counter attacks the queen so it doesn't really make much of a difference
@@adarshachandra5086 thank you. i am a bad chess player, i missed that. which is NOT good.
Historical context is perfect. Alternate play is just too much and lose the sunglasses.
Alternative play is the entire point of chess analysis- helping the viewer understand why this and not that.
ty
Pretty sure the best trolling move would have been to move the King to E2.
I'm so confused...you say Fischer was white but at 1:20 you say he's playing black
There are two games being mentioned. Fischer was black in the background game. He was playing white in the troll game.
Why the mirrors?

You didn't point out that Fischer played E5 against Spassky which he basically NEVER played
