Douglas Jones I believe there are TWO main diff in 2017 & 2018 models. 1) the remote, 2018 has removed headphone jack, that's it. 2) the contrast (dimming) control zones, went from 72 on 2017 & are 96 2018 models. 3) the viewing angles especially in bright light is supposed to be better, but like I always say, that's subjective to the user. As far as spec wise, these are the 2 main differences according to TCL. Hope helps....
Sorry, last thing, besides the finish & build material. So, 3 main things. 2018 models are more brushed aluminum look 360° than the black shiny plastic look on 2017 models. So, if can take the look of 2017 & in YOUR BUDGET, go look at a store & see for yourself. You may just as well be happy with 2017 model paying way less than the 2018 model with those 2 major differences.
Skeletor Five This can be true especially in game mode on some tv brands & models. I believe TCL is one such brand, but am unsure. Best way to check is try it for yourself & see if you can notice a diff, or look at manual; as it would state HDMI 1,2, or 3 better for 4K gaming in game mode as it offers lowest lag, etc.... Hope this helps. Oh, some TVs might have HDMI 1, their "Game" &/or 4K content input and therefore Lag will be lowest. Like said depends on brands & models. Cheers, A

Nice!
Awsome ty very much Xbox has hdr now. Liked and subbed.
If i dont play video games do i still need to change it to hdmi 2.0 ?
Are all hdmi the same, some have claimed hdmi 3 has lower input lag then rest. What is your opinion on this?
Skeletor Five This can be true especially in game mode on some tv brands & models. I believe TCL is one such brand, but am unsure. Best way to check is try it for yourself & see if you can notice a diff, or look at manual; as it would state HDMI 1,2, or 3 better for 4K gaming in game mode as it offers lowest lag, etc....
Hope this helps. Oh, some TVs might have HDMI 1, their "Game" &/or 4K content input and therefore Lag will be lowest. Like said depends on brands & models.
Cheers, A
Do I have to change my settings while streaming?
How's the 1080p upscaling on this TV?
So the problem I had was my HDMI cable was old and didnt support 4k.... Swapped the cable and boom it all works.
Thought that was weird but definitely worth a mention !
Oh yeah. I'm not even sure I put that in the video!
is this applicable for any TCL 4k tvs?
It should work as they are the Roku OS.
Thank you so much for the info
You’re welcome!
Are these TVs good for hdr gaming?
Hi! Yeah, the input lag is around 17ms which is pretty awesome for hdr gaming
DO you find the Roku menu system to be pixelated?
Good gravy thank you so much :)
You’re welcome Kass!
I’m really glad I found your tutorial. Thank you

Techno Dad, Is the 55R617/15 a 10-bit panel? I noticed xbox one x said 10-bit.
Yes. 10-bit panel
Techno Dad Thank you.
What's the difference between 55R617 and 55R615?
Hi! The R615 is the Best Buy version and the R617 is the Amazon version. The Amazon version is $50 more due to a different remote...I think...
Techno Dad just the remote ?
Yeah, that's it. The panel and features are exactly the same.
Thank you Man 👍👍
What about watching movies in 4K on Xbox one x
Yes, you will need to follow these steps to get 4K HDR from Xbox One into the TV.
How do i get roku tv?
Roku OS is built into this TV. You could get a Roku Ultra...
Techno Dad I have the tv but I don’t know how to get to that
