Today we answer this question and more, looking at some secrets about partners that could only be found through hacking the game, and some interesting references to past Mario games, reaching all the way back to the original Super Mario Bros on NES!
What happens if you try to have all partners in Paper Mario: The Origami King in a battle at once? What if Mario and Olivia are joined by Bobby the Bob-omb, folded Bowser, Professor Toad, Spike, Bone Goomba, Sombrero Guy, Kamek, and Bowser Jr? And what if we try to add Luigi, unfolded Bowser, Captain T Ode, and some green toads from Club Island to the mix?

And now imagine entering a battle with 4 partners with a lot of enemies and having less moves than you need. After your turn, every partner do their best to beat up rest of enemies. Man, that could be cool!
That's a really cool idea! Some partners from later in the game are really strong, and it's funny that we don't really need them in battles

I think the reason bowser jr. has a very limited number of usable battles is because his tantrum attack is too overpowered
What if you could duplicate the four toads that follow you for a short time, so that you could just go to Olly with what he feared most: an army of green toads
This is a brilliant idea, that's so hilarious 😂 I'm strongly considering doing this, this could be so funny, and it could make a great mod too 😂

I think why you can have 5 party members is because Olivia sometimes joins you in battle and outside battle so for her to appear you need an extra partner slot so 5 partners can appear
This is interesting. I wonder what happens if you remove partners at certain points in the game, Olivia being a good example.

There's also a snifit who sells accessories in Shangri Spa who temporarily joins you, as you need to escort him to his stand. He doesn't have a partner icon in the menu, though.
I would pay fifty euros for someone to make a mod of the game where every partner except for Bobby stays with Mario through the whole journey.

Theory of Why Bowser’s fire attack can’t hurt Buzzy beetles: Bowser’s Fire Attack has the Property of the Fire Flower. Fire Flower cant hurt the Buzzy Beetles and Fire Attack can’t do that to! The developers maybe copied and pasted the Fire Flower file but made it shoot once 1-4 Fire balls at the same time with a new texture and more damage! And that’s my theory ;)
THIS should've been Origami King... except the partners you control. They unique weapons as well and you can have 4 active partners.
Very clever to defeat enemies, I want it in the next Paper Mario series game.

@@ZXMany i hope someone can code something for luigi so he can be in battle and actually fight, even if the lowest point for a battle attack is just a high jump that he can sometimes fail on is still acceptable
@@MB-fx6vb Yeah, that'd be really cool! There are some people working on modding the game and trying to figure out battles and how to mod them, so I think we might be able to see something like custom partners or Luigi in battle in the future!

If i recall correctly, at one point in shan-gri spa, you are joined by a shop snifit for like one second before you reach regular land.

funny enough they aren’t a partner member, unlike the rest. Through testing I’m confident that they used left-over code from Color Splash, as the snifit acts just like the follower npcs in that game.

This is insane! Really interesting
You actually can fight a buzzy beetle with bowser. In the final fight before stapler where all the enemy charge at you, if you dont know down the king olly thing, there is a buzzy beetle. Bowser also deals 25 damage to fire bros, and not just 75 to ice bros. Like wise, fire flowers deal less damage to fire bros.

@@austinlarkin9865 Tbh he is more of a unevolution. He deals 75 to ice bros, but its useless h as both bowser jr and kamek can already defeat them. and he does 25 to fire bros and 0 to buzzy beetles. He is a good partner, just not the best

I was just wondering this! Also, I don't know if you tried this before, what happens when you bring partners into a boss battle, since the game prevents partners from accompanying you at those points in the story progress? I remember you trying with just Luigi and he did nothing (as always), but what about the partners that are programmed for regular battles?

say question, in this game partners have only 1 attack ( or at least most partners have 1 attack some don't attack)
now Im wondering if any of the partners (manly the one that can attack in battle) have a unused attack
Great question! I haven't come across any that I can think of: every partner I've seen that I can remember has an attacking animation, and a failed attacking animation

If partners sit around in a circle and don't just stack onto each other, this probably means Nintendo was going to make partners stay.

Unfortunately partners don't have any actual coding for boss fights, which is why Bobby and Professor Toad stay behind.
Junior literally got more battle time in this video than in the actual game :( What was even the point in them coding him and making new animations for him to battle lol. At least let the guy battle in the castle nintendo...

I’m guessing that having the 5-th partner toad work fine in battle and adding to the party was intended as a sort of fail safe or in consideration of that island specifically.
Maybe they wanted to make sure the code could handle Mario having a partner while rescuing all 4 toads in case they wanted that to be possible in the story, but they decided against having that happen later on. Interesting video!

You should program the characters who don't appear in battle to appear in battle. Also, I'm pretty sure bowser can be in battle bc there's battles in origami castle, but I never tested it so you might be right.
Cool idea! We'd have to create the sprites and learn to edit battle data, which is something that we haven't figured out in the Origami King modding community yet as far as I'm aware. There's a possibility that one day we can see custom partners in battles! Have a great day :D

this is actually pretty interesting probably one of the most interesting things l found in this vid was bowser jr can actually be playable l didn't know that on my first playthrough and when l went to actually do it l was suprised he only has a limited use. overall pretty interesting vid l didn't know a lot of these so yeah pretty interesting.
