- Was Origami Princess Peach ever planned as a boss in Paper Mario: The Origami King? Today we take a look at hidden unused animations in the game files of Paper Mario: The Origami King, exploring Easter eggs/ some animations for Origami Princess Peach that we don't see anywhere in Paper Mario: The Origami King gameplay!
We take a look at some game secrets and explore the idea of Princess Peach possibly being a boss (or in a battle), and what other role might have been planned for Origami Princess Peach in Paper Mario: The Origami King!
Some of Princess Peach's unused animations are identical or similar to animations of other origami characters, similar to how the folded soldiers in battles spin before exploding, or how they take damage, or become confused, or look tired when their HP is low. Some of Princess Peach's animations are similar to those of other characters - like Origami Princess Peach's unused crying animation. But some animations, and some aspects of Princess Peach's animations, seem unique to her. More about that in the video!
There are some interesting boss fights in Paper Mario: The Origami King, and it's possible that Origami Princess Peach might have been planned as one of those bosses at some point - or if she wasn't planned for a boss fight, there might have been something else planned for Princess Peach because of her unique unused animations hidden in the game's files.

It's great that you bring this up, actually. When Origami King was first revealed, I was *sure* Origami Peach would be the penultimate boss of the game, right before King Olly -- and if not, I assumed she at least would be a boss in SOME form. I was really surprised when she wasn't, so I'm eternally grateful to you for making my preconceived notions about this game a reality :D

I have the feeling you were suppose to fight Peach once you entered the castle, it's the only place I can think of were you would've fought her, I'm kinda sad because this was a big missed opportunity to fight peach again in the series (first being shadow queen), but at the same time I enjoyed it so much I didn't even think about it lol.
Kinda weird how TOK hasn't even been out for a year and people are already finding a lot of unused stuff, maybe the game was possibly rushed? Or they just had too many ideas that they couldn't put in do to time constraints? Not sure honestly.

On my first play through of the Game, before Peaches castle was turned into the origami castle, I was to 100% sure that when you are in this Backroom that you fight her.

I always thought it would be cool if princess peach was the one who healed king olly during the first phase of his battle rather than him just magically healing himself. It would make sense since she's brainwashed by olly and we know princess peach has healing powers from previous games

I actually made up a head cannon when I realized that this wasn’t the case where basically Olly was using peaches healing power but it was through the origami castle if that makes any sense
I like thinking this could have been for a bad ending of the game. As Olivia explains, once they're folded, we can't unfold them, and considering how the origami explode into confetti once dying, I thought it could be like this:
Olly sends Peach to fight Mario.
It's a pretty sad battle, as Mario doesn't want to hurt Peach (unless this is Super Smash Bros.) so Mario must reluctantly fight.
Peach explodes into confetti after the battle, and Mario proceeds to fight Olly.
Mario wins and such. You saved the world, but at what cost?
...God this sounded better in my head. (Although i'd like to see if it's possible to beat the game if every enemy is replaced with Stapler.)

And I posted a quick video on Twitter of a battle where the goomba models are replaced with the stapler's models! If we want to replace the goombas with actual staplers bosses (and I'm not sure if you meant that or something else), then that can be another interesting experiment too 😂
@@ZXMany That's exactly what I meant. Every normal enemy in the game is turned into the actual stapler boss. How far can we survive? What happens if a normal enemy is replaced with a actual boss?

@@ZXMany I mean, this could actually start a whole different challenge, how many battles can we avoid in PM:TOK? With the penalty being if we do get into a fight, we have to fight Stapler.
@@distortlfy-mm That's a really cool idea, I like it 😂 The route used would essentially be the same as an any% speedrun, where you'd want to avoid any fight that you don't need so that you can save the most time!

Maybe Olly would use her like a marionette to fight you before you fight him during the final boss, maybe as a scrapped first phase, or maybe you would even fight her at the beginning of the game.

Theory:
Instead of having her own battle she was actually supposed to help Olly in the finale pose. That would explain the running and swinging animations. For the tied of animations I'd say she would have been tied up during the elemental fight and would've been dropped during the cutscene before the bowser portion of the fight.

A Princess Peach Boss Figth?
This happened before in Paper Mario TTYD and Super Paper Mario, but in the first case you fight the Shadow Queen who possessed Princess Peach, and in the second case you fight a Shadow (it's interesting how they both have "Shadow" in their name) version of her.
A figth against the origami version of Princess Peach would have been interesting, considering how the only time you actually fight her is when the Shadow Queen possesses her, but you attack the Queen, not Peach.
I feel like if someone could make a fangame when you fight the Origami version of Princess Peach, using those unusued data.
I haven't played through all of the Paper Mario games so I'll have to read this comment later! Don't want to accidentally spoil it for myself 😂
A Peach fight would've been more interesting than a quiz on each Vellumental's weakness, that's for sure.

Just an idea, but maybe Bowser was originally going to fold himself into origami, and kidnap origami Peach, but Nintendo thought "Let's actually make the final boss creative"

I think the only time peach was a boss to a degree in the Mario games was thousand year door, but sounds like a bad ass idea

To be honest, I expected paper peach to be a boss of some sort In the tok, likely right before her castle transforms.

I think the boss was probably going to happen before the castle becomes Origami Castle. I mean that makes much sense as that would be ideal for it to happen.

Great comment! I actually did something really similar in a video I just posted! I replaced every single boss in Paper Mario: The Origami King with Princess Peach, so you can see how she would act as different bosses, and some of it is pretty funny

Thank you for the comment! Do you mean unfold the models digitally, or unfold physical replicas of the origami characters? If you're talking about editing models of characters digitally, there are a few people who have done some work on that in the modding community!
Unfolding the models digitally so we can attempt to make the models in real life using the exact same measurements

Honestly, I think princesse peach was the animation test dummy, it would make sense, running: goomba, crying: Olivia, confused: most bosses, and dangling from the rope was for an unused area most likely, but that animation was probably not gonna be for her

That's a really cool idea! Some people in the Origami King modding community are digging into how the game works and we might see something like that one day!
I do wonder what her boss gimmick would have been. Perhaps she summons origami toads that screw up the battlefield somehow? Maybe because a fight against Peach would be emotional, she toys with our emotions even more and uses origami bob-ombs? What if due to her undying loyalty to Olly she has some final desperation and sacrificial attack that would destroy both of you. Idk I’m just spit balling here.

It would have been interesting if You had to fight Peach in the same Mario game which is as of yet, the only Mario RPG without a battle AGAINST Bowser.
(I capitalised Against to put emphasis on it, as people will comment how he fights in Olly's 2nd phase)
Ok this would've been the coolest boss in the game. Like how cool would it be if olly folded over her to form armour? And then she does a really strong attack leaving you at 1 hp. And her crying animation was her coming to her senses and she would've been like "I... I can't do it..."

This is something like TTYD's final boss, that Mario technically had to fight Peach. Except that the idea of fighting peach in TOK, if real, was scrapped. I would've personally really liked if Peach was a boss, because I feel like she doesn't show up in the game as much as she should have. In the game, she is just like: *Oh hi. Now fall in the hole.* Literally the whole game later: *Oh hi Mario, what happened?* THE END

My mind somewhat gave a thought on a what if sort of Cutscene. Like what if she actually fought us.
Mario, having just beaten Olly the first round, seeming to huff and puff as he spots princess peach, dangling from the ceiling. Olly would turn his arms into blades, like in the final phase, and slice the rope that holds princess peach up. Bowser would look at peach, confused. Only for peach to run up to him and hit him away from the group.
Once again, just a "what if" from me!

I haven't played Color Splash yet, but maybe one day :) We're going to be playing through Super Paper Mario in the near future, so it's definitely within the realm of possibility that I'll play through some other Paper Mario games as well!

Great question! I don't think this is a hint about extra content or future DLC because a lot of games that never got updates have unused content in them. It'd be pretty cool to get extra Paper Mario: The Origami King content, and I wonder how they could include any new content into the game without disrupting the story 🤷
@@ZXMany you never know. We already know Nintendo has been working hard on DLCs most notable is with smash. We do know Nintendo can make sure that they can make DLCs that don’t affect the story random example Pokémon Sword/Shield (which ever you got). Sure that is a different example but still it won’t affect any story but still has lots of content. We never can know (don’t think I did not realize when you said replacing bosses with peach you were at 69 health ;) again just a thought

I think it probably was not suposed to be used. they animated her in case they would use that. if they would delete animation or not animate then it would take more time to put in game. i am not englishman so sorry for bad english. I was developing on Phone and i also have sprites what i dont know if i use.
Say i do know of found on wiki unused enemy’s their we some unused enemy’s since they were seen in the concept art. Some enemy’s included origami Bony bettles, para bones, Sombero guys, bob-ombs, Dino rhinos and even the amazing flying hammer bros were found in concept art in the museum. Is it possible if you can fine any of those enemy’s in the files?
Thank you for the comment! Are you asking if I can find these files or asking how you can check for these files? If you dump the RomFS of the game, it's really easy to check: look in the folder: romfs\character\ and then there will be four folders with all of the characters: bunbogun, haribote, origami, and pera. I go more in-depth in this in some of my videos where we look at secrets in the game and in videos where I show how to edit the game's data, they're on my channel :)

@@harrietr.5073 It's definitely possible that Peach could've been planned as an original enemy! We don't know if the regular enemy spinning animations were just copied from other enemies or if it was made specifically for Peach 🤷

Pretty sure some of those were just copied over, and others were for cutscenes earlier in development that were eventually scrapped. I highly doubt there was ever a Peach boss battle planned. Also, the image of Mario beating up Peach is probably not something Nintendo would normally allow. Sure, there is Smash Bros., but in that series they made them puppets and not the real characters.

THEORY: My theory is that Peach was supposed to be GOOD being origami, and would be kidnapped by every office prop boss, that's why in one of her animations, she looks to be tangled up on rubber bands. The falling animation is when that rubber band breaks. That's my theory.

@@doggreat1715 It's no problem to ask questions! I luckily have my copy of TTYD and my GameCube from when I was a kid, but getting a copy of TTYD is a bit pricey now. I think some older Wii models can play GameCube games, so that's another option that you can consider! The most popular Wii/ GameCube emulator, and one of the most developed emulators, is probably Dolphin

Looks more like an enemy then a boss
Peach does have a really similar size to normal enemies! She also has the spinning animation that normal enemies have before they explode into confetti, and lots of similar animations to regular enemies!
Can you Make Bobby’s Ghost as a partner?
That's a really good question! I think ghost Bobby won't show up as a partner if you edit the party_information part of the save data, but we can create a mod where we have a ghost Bobby partner! That's really cool, I think I'll do that for a future video, thanks so much for the comment :D
