according to John Lennon, it was better than the original. I will not easily disagree, but if it comes from Lennon, who am I to judge and say no? I think I'll trust John on this one. Brilliant rendition of a master piece.
Today`s rock bands would do well to listen to this recording. This level of musical genius simply cannot be duplicated.I dare ANY of today`s bands to try.
When I heard this version it was a revelation, I never liked or disliked the Beatles version it was just a tune. Hearing this at the right moment driving home at 3 in the morning from an ex’s place (we hooked up again out of nowhere after 6 months, also my dad had died earlier that year and I was still processing that too) it kicked my ass, it was the right song for the right moment. Everything came together, that nothing in life made sense, made sense 😅 It was beautiful
The instruments and vocals sound so foreboding it reminds me of Bloodrock`s D.O.A. It grabbed me by the ears and hasn`t let go. This is one of the coolest and interesting recordings I have ever had the pleasure of listening too. I am so glad I stumbled upon this!

This was on the Island Samplers Bumpers or Nice Enough to Eat in the late 1960s. I read that John Lennon loved this version and said it was the best version of a Beatles cover. Heavy Jelly's I keep singing the same old song and Mott the Hoople's Thunderbuck Ram were also on these. Seek 'em out they were great.
It must have been Bumpers, Mike. I bought Nice Enough to Eat & still have it. Better By You Better than me was their song on that & probably my favourite song on the album. This is a great version.
Thanks Mike Carr for those two suggestions. I’ve just checked them out and will be getting them on I-tunes (old fashioned to do that now apparently). In return I recommend Bang Keep On and Fuzzy Duck Country Boy 😎
This is some power. Never heard this cover. Never knew much about Spooky Tooth. Just remember the name back in the 70's, and I disregarded them as a minor band. I WAS DEAD WRONG AS USUAL.

Luther a.k.a. Ariel was shredding before shredding became a term. Still have "driveway moments" to this and Evil Woman. The neighbors must think, "that old man is crazy." But F 'em if they can't take a joke. :-)
@@larrysmac Oh hell Yaasss I Blast "Evil Woman" and my neighbors shut all their windows but they think "Stairway" was the only Rippin Song in History!! Kids today Got Ta Listen to our Shiii

This is quite possibly the best cover of this Beatles number I have ever heard. Excellent.

check out Crack the Sky's version
Yup.
No that mantle goes to Australian band The Zoot doing Eleanor Rigby, check it out.
@@Neil-Aspinall Yea but we are talking about I am the walrus here.
Great Rock band and the best cover of this iconic composition.
“The Last Puff”.. my all time favorite album title and jacket art.
Pure rock goodness saturated with musical genius.

Thanks for this 😊 many people never heard spooky tooth unless your from 70s
My brother and I saw ST South Shore Melody Tent in Cohasset, MA. ... in the early seventies. We sat right behind the speakers (stage is round).
Was invited by friend to see st but my heroin addiction held me back.
I like the quality about Mike Harrison's voice that it sounds like it's just about to break down, but somehow keeps on...
Better than the Beatles. Even Lennon said so. Spooky Tooth
Did he really? cool
@@krzysztofcybulski5559 John was always generous in complimenting cover versions. Another fave of his was Anne Murray's take on "If I Needed Someone".

Looks like I replied twice. Strange. Sorry about that. Forgot to mention Yesterday’s Children Hunter’s Moon

Brilliant Version!!
I just discovered it today and I couldn`t agree with you more! This has got to be the best cover of this iconic Beatles song ever recorded.
Fantastic version and great arrangement. In my top 10 records of all time.
Love this version, much trippier with a great Hammond interlude, so lucid and psychotropic.
5 stars since 1970. I love this abnd.
J'ai adoré, j'adore encore
Watchmen brought me here. Great version!
Me to forgot how great this version was
Never heard this cover. Very cool.
Just dripping with acid!
It has got "that sound" .
❤ this more psychedelic version!! (Still love and miss John Winston Lennon.)
me too
It's been said that they were the right band at the wrong time. Arguably a supergroup before the term was even popularized.
Sounds like it could’ve been recorded yesterday. Only just recently discovered these cats. Can’t believe I somehow missed them until now!
One of the best remakes in rock history/ you take a song and make it your own- as in With a Little Help From My Friends !!!###
Danke nochmal
Great band. Saw then a couple times in the 60s.
I wish....

better than the Beatles version by far. Spooky Tooth is bigger than they ever became. One of the best bands from the time.

Far better than the original
The original is a masterpiece in both it's production, and tonal structure.Hence, no comparison here but to delight in a cover well done!

Pretty good, but the Beatles were the masters, there’s no song if they didn’t write it?
