Imagine yourself back in The Sixties & hearing these guys, Hendrix & The Doors for the first time. I don't have to imagine. I was only a boy then, but these people stimulated & expanded your brain in ways you can't understand & a half-century later the music is still ahead of its time.

When I was a boy about 12 yrs old around 69/70 my dad picked up a young hippy on a dirt track, he had no money and nowhere to stay so dad brought him home, fed him and gave him a bed. My dad was a fisherman and took the young fella to work for a few days so he could earn some money to move on. He had a small portable turntable and a handful of records, one of them the Cream album this track is from, he told me to play them and look after them until he came back to get them. I must of played the Cream album a 100 times.
He came back one day when my parents were out, thanked me for looking after his records and told me to keep listening to good music. Whenever I hear this song I think of him and wonder how his life panned out.

Wow , you include part of his claim of fame was helping Clapton is absurd on so many levels , cs he deserved as much as Clapton , if you really think he was that great and besides , Im sure his goal wasn't to ensure Eric bought tens of millions of prime London real estate. Masons ONLY goal was to make Clapton a star .

What a lot of folks do not understand. It was not just the music. It was the feeling, energy, spirit, and so much more. You could see and feel in the sixties. Just walking around the village in NY was a experience. I guess you had to been their to understand! Ps. I was at the farewell show in New Haven. Only feet leaning on the stage from Clapton. I was the one who ran on stage and took a Ginger Baker drum stick. The good old days! No! They never caught me!

Jack was everything in this song, the driving bass as well as the powerful medieval yet soulful voice. But it’s easy to go making Gingers Thumping drums or Claptons mesmerising psychedelic guitar were only bit part players. A clear standout for me is Gingers massive crashing drum crescendo, it underpins and draws attention even to the lyrics and mood of the song. It’s rare to hear that in drums, few can do it, yet combine beautifully with the bass and in its chaos still provide a precise platform for Eric’s finger picking artistry. It all works wonderfully to create a heavy rock masterpiece of a song.

Lie with you where the shadows run from themselves

Consolation for the old wound now forgotten
Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes
