The US Open is the final Grand Slam of the year and takes place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The 2022 US Open saw Spain's Carlos Alcaraz and Poland's Iga Swiatek claim the men's and women's singles titles. It was both players' first US Open title, with Alcaraz claiming his first Grand Slam title and Swiatek claiming her third Grand Slam title. The 2023 US Open main draw is scheduled to go ahead between August 28 - September 10. I was 10 years when they first met. Connors was bigger than life. Even here in the USA. And tennis was huge here back then!
You could see tennis magazines everywhere!
Borg also was in the middle of his legendary career...
Most young people will never have a chance to experience the magic of tennis here in the USA back then...

It's a new century with Millennials who think life begins with them. We know that Connors McEnroe was the real rivalry, not Borg at all, yes they all played keenly but Connors & the upstart McEnroe was a war. I loved Connors, he would have loved to be playing against the Big 3.
Yes. Mac likes to play up the rivalry between him and Borg, but the real rivalry was between him and Connor, and him and Lendl who got the better of him.

No one has forgotten connors but he wasn’t a beautiful striker of the ball the way Mac was with his artistic touch. More of a blue collar type of player.
These 2 guys were not tennismen, they were actors. Theirs matches were theatre plays! The 2 greatest showmen (with Nastase) that tennis had ever known. How nostalgic I am for this time❤❤

A match between these two is what got me into tennis. I loved everything about them. Their theatrics and skills were great for a 10 year old.

Thank goodness line calls are so much better today. You can feel the frustration of players bybad calls that wouldn't be overturned. To try and droen your frustration of the unfairness of it and bring your concentration back on the game requires a very strong will.

can you do one on Lendl vs McENROE who played 1980, 1982, 1984-85 Finals and 1987 Quarters ?
McEnroe and Lendl did not play against each other in the 1980 and 1982 U.S. Open Men's Singles Final. I realize, of course, that you didn't mean to indicate that they did, but the way you worded your comment wrongly indicates that they played against each other in those two finals at the U.S. Open.

McEnroe 1984 season, he was unbelievable , the following season , I don't think he won a grand slam again Becker, edberg wilander, lendl just took over a period he should of dominated in the late 80s then agassi and Sampras
Mac should've won the French in '84 also. I wish he had focused on the Grand Slam that year. A historic achievement within reach.
Yes. It was unbelievable indeed. But he was never the legend that Connors and Borg were in the 70s... although Jimmy had his own tour for several years...

He essentially wanted to go back to pre-open era and just create a tour with the top players.
Doubt ATP would have ever accepted any of those, but I don't know really
@@redd605 one thing I will add: his private tour was SEPARATE from the WTT, which also BTW caused him to be banned from many tournaments for many years. He almost never played the French or Australian open either...
He was a monster in the 70's, he could have won many more tournaments
Jimmy Connors was the tennis player who turned tennis into a spectacle and a massive sport. It must be remembered that tennis was an elitist sport with little coverage in the media. Connors' arrival in tennis was essential for this sport, since his irreverent and provocative style infected the young public of that time, becoming a character loved and hated at the same time, generating the effect of competition and rivalries outside and inside the tennis court, something that tennis needed to become a mass sport and attractive to television stations. Its importance as the catalyst that changed tennis forever is really little recognized!!

Those were great matches. Not now.
They are still great matches, better than today's tennis. All-court tennis, with a variety of shots, as opposed to hitting the ball as hard as you can and whoever missed first loses the point.
Agree completely. Today's tennis is an utter snoozefest. There's no variety. And that's men AND women. I very rarely watch the game now. Give me the 1980s any day @@BruceDavidson-gl1us

I loved them both then, and as they've grown older, Mac has aged like wine and Connors is just a whining old lady really. All his past disrespects, especially toward Lendl, who continually kicked his rear end through a decade into the 90s....have not aged well.
Connors was the most important player in the modern era.
