This is sentimental for me, I used to watch the games with my mom. She loved Jimmy, Bjorn and the others from that era. I miss her and this was something we shared in happy times. ❤❤ mom

I’m glad I was able to witness most of his career. I got into tennis in the late 70’s early 80’s. One of the best ever he was. My all time favorite. One of my first Racquets I bought was a Wilson T-2000. I still have it. I always wished I had bought the T-3000 because that’s the one he used I think? He was a once in a lifetime talent. Man I sure miss those days!

I would have rated the point against Haarhuis #1. That point was a microcosm of Connors: a battler who when he saw a chance to strike he took it. Plus, he had just turned 39 a couple of days earlier and was still playing at that level. Panatta would be #2. Those were amazing points.

Do tennis fans ever wonder WHO invented the Fist Pump? So many tennis players to this very day punch the air after winning a big point, and nobody in tennis ever acted this way before Jimmy Connors burst onto the scene. Connors is easily the most exciting player ever, and even when he lost you still got to see a show......

Jimmy Connors was the tennis player who turned tennis into a spectacle and a massive sport. It must be remembered that tennis was an elitist sport with little coverage in the media. Connors' arrival in tennis was essential for this sport, since his irreverent and provocative style infected the young public of that time, becoming a character loved and hated at the same time, generating the effect of competition and rivalries outside and inside the tennis court. ,Something that tennis needed to become a mass sport and attractive to television stations. Its importance as the catalyst that changed tennis forever is really little recognized!!

Chris Evert watched Connors's first us open win in 1974 in the stand as her girlfriend. Perhaps the only couple in tennis who could have matched Graf & Agassi, but they split after some years.

Lol, and why don’t you post your list of victories against the “three players” that “share everything”? Have they just not shared a grand slam win with you yet?
You’re right though, playing against the super-athletes of today definitely pales in comparison to the sheer physicality of the habitually smoking and drinking average athletes of back in the day 😂
