The arcade sonic games, especially sega sonic the hedgehog, were such a big change of pace for me. The games are so obscure but are just as important in terms of the classic timeline
The only games to not fit in the Classic Sonic Timeline would be Waka Waka Sonic Patrol Car, Sonic Cosmic Fighter, and SEGASONIC Popcorn Shop, as they don’t have a strong narrative that fits with the overarching franchise… and I’m not saying that because people thought Sonic shouldn’t be driving a car, but there’s not much to write about with those games. SEGASONIC Arcade and Sonic the Fighters do have narratives that fit the SEGASONIC branding, particularly with Eggman having Wile E. Coyote style intellect and karma, and Sonic being Mobius’ Felix Gonzales.

But seriously, I can buy-barely-that the Lunar Fox being so shitty for a Tails creation was simply because of short notice. And maybe the actual tournament was a bracket with one Emerald per round, and Eggman tries to rob you of them with a clone that he makes God knows how-maybe by sucking energy from the Emeralds as you have them?
Also among the Classic games, I put SegaSonic first canonically, then CD, then base Genesis trilogy about three-and-a-half years after to make Amy's age work, then 3D Blast, Chaotix, The Fighters and finally R. Spinball could work after Adventure if the "Chaos Emeralds" there were really the 16 Master Emerald fragments. 8-bit would be its own 6-Emerald thing.
Of all the insane problems and nitpicks in this video, the craziest thing I learned was that Nixon's middle name was "Milhouse." Also that the purple guy is named Fang the Sniper and not Knack the Weasel like I've always heard.
Nack was what he was called in the West when he was first introduced.
Nack is the US name, Fang is his JP/real name
And it's wild how he's actually appearing in person, in a game in 2023.
I think it’s both. Let’s retcon it as Fang the Sniper is his alias and Knack the Weasel is his real name.

The unlock conditions for Super Sonic in Fighters sound ridiculous on paper, but there is a way to make it easier: The game says to win every fight without losing a round, right? Well, if you lose a round at any point, just throw the next one, use a continue, and your loss record will be erased! Keep doing this until you reach Round 1 with Metal Sonic, and if you lose that round, repeat until you win! I think Sonic Gems Collection has this hint, but it might just be something you learn online.

I want to mention that SegaSonic The Hedgehhog WAS going to be localized outside of Japan like USA, evidence being of Eggman (actually called Robotnik in this case) having different sprites in form of his DiC animated shows appearance like Adventures of, SATAM, & Underground + English dialouge of Robotnik talking in the game. Reasons to why it never went through are unknown, but you could find these sprites in the Cutting Room Floor and can actually place them in the [TOTALLY LEGAL SEGASONIC ARCADE MACHINE]
The SatAM Robotnik sprites can be found in Spriter’s Resource.
i remember playing a segasonic the hedgehog arcade cabinet but it was called just sonic the hedgehog and ray was replaced by tails and the characters were voiced by adventures of sonic the hedgehog voice actors and dr robotnik used that sprite and the word damn was censored by dang or darn

There's actually a LOT of implications in the OG jp manuals for the classic games that implies they treated chaos emeralds as a rare mineral in the world rather than a rare thing where there is ONLY the 7 but they've sorta "retconned" that atp in Adv1

Hell, that might add to the Emeralds' origin in Frontiers. Yeah, the Ancients brought the Chaos Emeralds to Earth, but the Master Emerald was already on it. Maybe other worlds have their own chaos emeralds or similar gems?
It’s somewhat incredible that Sonic Superstars will be Fang’s first 3D appearance since Sonic the Fighters.

That was one of the most genuine sponsor segments ever, honestly. I sat through the whole thing just because I felt like, without a shadow of a doubt, this was just a dude telling me about his experience with the gaming chair and it just works way better to get me interested haha. Didn’t expect that, but of course always here for another EWW.
SegaSonic is probably the first game canonically in the timeline since it shows Sonic's childhood friends who don't appear anymore (except in the other timeline continuity where they were captured again) and because Sonic just wasn't as fast as he is in other games. The way I see it, him and his friends being kidnapped is the catalyst that makes Sonic hunt down Eggman, ruin his plans, and become a hero.

13:26 I believe the reason your (TOTALLY LEGAL SEGASONIC ARCADE MACHINE) is silent until you start the game is to reduce unnecessary noise in arcades that could distract people playing on other arcade machines nearby.
Imagine trying to play a memorisation game and then you suddenly hear the SegaSonic theme blaring next to you, throwing off your focus. That would be annoying, wouldn’t it?
A) That's contrary to most, if not all, arcade cabinets (hell, Killer Instinct literally had it's announcer get _louder_ the longer than the player could hold a combo, and it is _obscene_ what volume you can get to).
B) I feel like that still doesn't make sense. It's the job of the person to set the volume of the cabinets, so if they did have something that needed less noise nearby, they'd just turn it down. Especially when the rest of the game _still_ has audio.
Edit: C) Even if that, for some ungodly reason, were the case, why wouldn't they fix it for the (Totally Legal SegaSonic Arcade Machine)? You have a chance to improve the game for the new conditions.

A local arcade in dallas texas actually has an original segasonic the hedgehog arcade cabinet i got to play and I can confirm that the countdown sequence with eggman REQUIRES you to go at full speed (a.k.a. increasing your muscle mass from spinning a trackball) the entire time and if you dont remember the layout and hit a wall or fall off you just lose, its intended to be a quarter muncher like most early arcade games. it sucked but i managed to do it and looked like a fool in public doing it lol

I actually remember playing segasonic the hedgehog, it was in a restaurant with a child play place that I would go to for its 4 arcades, The game, despite being played with a joystick, actually worked pretty comfortably (to what I can remember, it was years ago). Wish i was still young enough to go check it again

*Fun fact:* SegaSonic the Hedgehog has an unused set of alternate Robotnik sprites that were based on his SatAM design, as well as translated speech panels. I guess they planned on releasing the game in America, but never ended up doing it?

I swear, getting Super Sonic in Fighters was my BIGGEST gripe with that Game. That's not challenge, that's awful design choice.

Made easier by continues but you’d have to read up on that yourself.
That was the unlock to Akuma fight back in the day and you had to have a few perfects on top of it. Least you can continue with this one.

A slight correction: The first person to voice Sonic in English in the games is Utoku Keiko, who provided a short voice clip of Sonic saying "I'm outta here!" for an Easter egg in Sonic the Hedgehog CD.
That's a common misconception. Utoku only worked on the music for Sonic CD. Masato Nishimura was a Sonic Team designer at the time, and he was the person who provided Sonic's voice in that game. He was also the one behind the "Fun is Infinite" screen.
Funnily enough, I discovered that while making this video. It turns out that, according to himself, he doesn't actually say "I'm outta here!", but instead "I'm OUTER here!".
The reason I don't count Nishimura as Sonic's first English voice actor is because they're only a few short phrases IN English, but every one of Sonic's seiyuus have said short phrases in English, and that doesn't really make them his "English voice actors".

This is the reason why I keep on pushing for a remakes of certain Sonic games! Especially some of the arcade games like Sonic fighters[no the Game Boy Advance game doesn't count as a remake, also does make a decent sequel would be really smart if Sega would be to supply both of them on a same cartridge and put little timestamps of separations of when the original versus the sequel came out. I know I'm asking a lot from having Sega to give us a actual timeline]

The reason there is no music is that you have the arcade attract mode turned off. Arcade games had it attract mode feature where you could configure them so that they wouldn't make noise unless somebody was playing the game if you had the arcade in someplace like a convenience store where the constant noise would be irritating

Legit the only Sonic arcade game I knew about before your streams was Sonic The Fighters. I guess Sega Sonic the Hedgehog too, but I had only seen pictures of the title screen not really knowing what it was. Either way, it's interesting that there were this many Sonic arcade cabinets out there. Also, bit of a hot take here, but I don't understand how Mighty and Ray are so popular. I know people say they're "forgotten Sonic characters", but you gotta give me a reason to like them other than that. At best, they're discount Sonic and Tails, and at worst, they're nothing burgers.
It could also be popularity rising due to appearences in the comics

At least Mania Plus gave them unique powers that made them just about as fun as the rest. Mighty in particular being the most fun with how his shell can shield projectiles and giving him a meteor stomp attack.

Im glad your playing these games on a [TOTALLY LEGAL SEGASONIC ARCADE MACHINE].
Sonic Fighters had the worst downloadable demo when released on console. They let you download the whole game (I think) but only give you like 60 seconds. But there are 54 seconds of intro animations giving you just 6 seconds of actual gameplay before it resets.
And Sonic Fighters is what I remember as a really great game. Lots of characters, and I could easily beat it as a kid. THe intro animation explains the dirt simple story well.
Interesting, I think I've learned a bit more about the acrade games than I thought. (Never knew about the War Against Drugs Screen until now) I've never been to an arcade outside of David Busters so knowing these used to be in arcade's (all be it most only being in Japan) is really cool to hear.

19:25 Something I just realized: all the characters get an emerald corresponding to their colour. Sonic gets blue, Knuckles gets red, Tails gets orange, Espio gets purple, Bark gets yellow, Bean green, Fang a dark blue/purple, and Amy pink. I guess that's why they went with these colours lol
Fun Fact about SegaSonic the Hedgehog:
The prototype of the game had a different level order.
The 1st level was still Volcanic Vault, the 2nd was Trap Tower, the 3rd was Landslide Limbo, and the 4th was Icy Isle.
And since the game was a prototype at the time, the final level was Desert Dodge.

The person who did the voices for Sonic CD was technically a Japanese voice actress reading English lines. So in that regard, no.
Unless I'm confused, I've at least heard versions of Sonic's and Eggman's voices from Cosmic Fighter somewhere before, but Im not too sure.
Fun fact: The actual reason why Mighty and Ray play exactly like Sonic, in SegaSonic the Hedgehog at least, is because SegaSonic was originally going to be a game called SegaSonic Bros. Before Mighty and Ray were a thing, before they had their special abilities introduced in Chaotix, the Archie comics, and Mania, in their place was a red Sonic and a yellow Sonic that were supposed to be Sonic's brothers.

This was the best one yet. There were a lot of mistakes with these arcade games. But these are so nostalgic. I really wanna play SegaSonic the gameplay and animations are so nice. There’s also voice acting and cutscenes.

Just want to bring up there was a scrapped localization of SegaSonic The Hedgehog that had Eggman replaced with Robotnik from SatAM.
Also SegaSonic Arcade should be remade for mobile.
14:18 So, the reason Sonic and his friends go to Wild Water Way after Landslide Limbo instead of straight towards Eggman's Tower was because, actually, they DID head to Eggman's Tower, as we can see in the beginning of Wild Water Ways that the trio cross the bridge leading to an upwards entrance to the tower.

I've heard of all of these, but Sonic the Fighters is the only one I've played. I had it in Sonic Gems Collection for the Gamecube. Some of the characters' stronger moves are virtually impossible to use with the Gamecube controls, I can say that for a fact.

I knew about most of these games thanks to the Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia, but the Patrol Car and Cosmo Fighter games were completely new to me. And very hilarious when talked about this way. 😄
Honestly, if Sega makes a new Sonic Fighters that fixes the issues of the original and adds new stages, characters and other stuff, I'd probably buy it
