    I can't thank you enough for this awesome, oldie-but-perfect video. Because you were so thorough and covered "all the bases" by explaining how this all works, and then addressing each of the potential sources of problems, you saved me hundreds in repairs (or even a replacement). Your experience is so obvious because everytime you explained some of the reasons that might have caused the problem, I'm like: "How'd he know I did that?" Anyway, your suggestion for simply clearing the little hole between the igniter and the gas did the trick. Before I watched your video, I didn't even know that hole was there. A little soaking and a pin later... Ta-Da!!! Fixed. Thanks for everything!

    Thanks, Bill. You just saved me a very expensive and unnecessary repair bill. I had a handyman come by and tell me I needed all new parts. But it turns out my problem was example 3, a clogged gas hole. Not only can that be a problem but all the little vent holes in the top pieces can get clogged. So, I went through and cleaned out all of the holes in all of the pieces. Now my stove performs great. Thanks for taking the time to put together the video.

    This video you made 10 years ago enabled me, a 68-year-old grandma, to fix the burner on my GE gas stove after tenants almost trashed it. Spent hours cleaning it after they moved, then watched this video about trouble-shooting burner that wouldn't light. Since it wasn't even clicking, I tried replacing the burner switch on the wiring harness. My stove is 25 years old (doesn't look it!) so the part is discontinued, but I found a used one on eBay and now it works perfectly. Thank you!

      @AkuotDiri 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      How did you fix it?

    • @mreddiebjones
      @mreddiebjones 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@AkuotDiri I used a small paper clip, unfolded, and inserted through the hole from outside in. The paper clip won't go far as it will hit a turn in the gas flow direction. However, you will be able to see the paper clip sticking through from the top view. This is also assuming that you can light the eye with a match or BBQ lighter when the gas is turned on and that, when unlit, you can see the spark from the ignitor. 1) See if the burner will light with the eye turned on and a match or other source applied. 2) If it does, take all the burner parts off and see if the ignitor sparks when you turn on the eye. 3) If so, clean the hole described in the video with a small paper clip. 4) Reassemble everything and test it out. If you followed these steps, the burner should work.

    Hey Bill. Question. having an issue with the ingiter. I have gas coming out cause I smell it. I see the igniter sparking but not lights up the gas. One thing I noticed. all other igniters spark goes up, on this one it goes to the side. Please advise.

    • @sivucit
      @sivucit 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reason it is going to the side, is because spark didnot find the good ground on the CAP,. that is why it is sparking towards the base, the ground is transferred from the burner to the base via the SCREW THAT HOLD burner (in my model). ensure ground is properly moved from bottom of the burner to the cap.

    • @ThePatriotsBrother
      @ThePatriotsBrother 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @sivucit
      @sivucit 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThePatriotsBrother The screw that attach burner to the stove is the ground, make sure you replace the screw or tight the screw so the stove and burner is connected well to get the ground, once u get right ground, the spark goes up, reason spark goes side because it could not find the ground and bruner seeks ground to the stove which is on the side / bottom of the burner

    • @gondolacrescent5
      @gondolacrescent5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Melody FPL Good question. All of mine click, but only sometimes. Sometimes none of them click but I’m just trying to figure out where the igniter unit is located so I can repair either a loose wiring harness or repair the igniter itself. I’m betting the replacement cost of an igniter is about 1/3 the cost of the entire stove/range. I refuse to be screwed over by someone or a group of people trying to make lots of money by sitting back and exploiting their ability to price parts 20 times what they cost in total to make, package and warehouse. Best wishes with your situation.

    Bill. thank you for your informative and encouraging presentation! what I found on my range was that the burners had a corroded film (white) from a previous cleaning, preventing the spark for going up. Scraping with a common nail and sewing needle fixed this on three burners (which do not have a small hole in the back of the "U" shaped igniter. The last burner didn't work; it did not go together smoothly. I found that the burner assemblies have a slightly different size mounting pilot; the interference prevented the igniter from extending all the way into the burner---I had mixed up the parts during cleaning and re-assembly. I swapped burners and TA-DA!! All is well. Thanks again.

    The basic trouble shooting is spot on. I was dealing with one intermittent burner and all the rest worked. 50-50 chance burner switch or spark modulator. (coin toss)
    Spent a fair amount of time cleaning up spills and igniter elements all to no avail. Gas orifice on the burner was clear.

    OMG!! Thank you! My front burner has been clicking and the spark was unable to ignite the burner. A little cleaning with a dry toothbrush and it works now. No more lighting with match. Thank you, great informational video.

    Hi Bill,
    Wanted to thank you for the video. My problem was also #3. Gas was working, igniter was sparking properly, and burner would light with a lighter, but not from the igniter. I didn't even realize there was a small separate chamber with a small hole in it next to the igniter. I used a toothpick and probed the small hole a few times and burner started right up. Great video. Thanks very much for taking the time to do it.

    Thanks for your helpful advice regarding the small hole (orifice) next to the ignitor. I ran a fine wire through the hole and opened it up. The burner now lights like a charm. Saved me a lot of time and money.

    Thank you sir!!! Not only did I fix the issue with two of the burners on my stove, I learned something new and useful! It was as a easy as cleaning that tiny little orifice and both burners are working now.
