Your videos are incredibly helpful. For the last 7 years, I've had one burner that didn't like to light on a brand new stove from day 1. Of course, it happens to be the burner that I want to use the most. After watching this, I fiddled around with it and now it lights right away every time. I didn't see anything come out of the hole when I probed it with a paperclip, but perhaps there was a bit of dust in there or something. I also built the oil changing vacuum device you did a video on. It is an honor to be your subscriber Sir, keep up the good work!
Very useful video. My stove doesn’t look anything like that one but there is enough info in the video for me to find and fix the problem I’ve had with my stove. There has been one burner that is very slow to light since I bought the house 20 years ago. Amazing that a three minute video fixed a two decade annoyance. Hats off to you my man.
Thank you Chris.. this happens to me occasionally and I had no idea how the igniter works or what to look for. Now I do!! Thank you again and take care.
I wish I had a gas stove just so I could take the top cover off and look at all the interesting parts that you showed us on this video! At least now I can help my friends out if they ever have this problem😁 thanks for another video filled with great tips!❤
Great informative video. I jumped up and went to my stove . The left front burner has not worked since I moved into my current home. After trying all the suggestions, turns out there is no gas getting to the burner. I checked the other four burners and you can hear the gas being directed to the burner. I still appreciate the tips for future reference.
You used the process of illumination perfectly and you will find the problem shortly by a little more probing. These systems are simple. You’re almost there. You’ve got this!!
Thanks for the information. Just did that and my burner is lighting even though my type of burner is different from yours. All the way in South Africa❤
Some older 20 + year ago era stoves had a trigger switch behind the gas burner knob to trigger the spark. They tended to fail, somewhat of an easy fix but you had to go in under the burner tray to get at the wires, which was a pain.
I see this video and find it very hard to imagine a person who didn't learn it by just hanging around his/her mom in the kitchen... then I hear "Beloved! if you are a bastard to a single mom who haven't had a chance to learn and teach you ...." and it all makes sense. Thanks for the video.
I was just making chocolate syrup and it boiled over. I mean ALL over. How do I clean wherever it ran down? Mine doesn’t come apart. I have been having trouble lighting but I think after watching your video I can clean that. I’m afraid the syrup ran down around the base and under the top somewhere. What a mess. Not sure what to do. Well. Back to cleaning. Thanks for the video .
Yes just get in there with "as hot of water as you can handle" and clean clean clean. The water won't harm anything. Let it dry and give it a go. Tip: use a toothbrush to help get in around the ignitor (fyi: you can't get an electrical shock, no worries)
one thing that wasn't mentioned was with that orifice bit having carbon build up. It wont be at the top but inside the tube, so you'd have to grab something like a paper clip, unbend it and clear it out the tube
Gas stove will ignite with a match only. Cleaning doesn’t help. It doesn’t click anymore. I have a friend who new how to fix the clicking part, However that didn’t work either. Something is wrong with the electronic part of the stove. For now I’ll make due with matches. 🙃 Good video, thanks.
Sometimes the actual ignitor can go bad, they work similar to a BQ pizo starter or fluid lighter, except some are powered and others not (Non flint). Depends on stove, some have left and right separated, some have an electronic board that feeds the power to all of them. Matches are cheap though so that's good to.
And if you've cleaned/washed the stove top and burners with liquid cleaners and it doesnt light....let it dry. Or light the burners with a match to dry them quicker. Mine wont start if they get wet but they easily light again when they dry out.
My problem is that sometimes the burner won't stop sparking, usually after a spill or cleaning. To be honest, I'd much prefer the old fashioned pilot light...that never cost you hundreds of dollars for a new circuit board and a service call that after diagnosis and waiting for parts took weeks. JMHO
The problem was back then is that your house smelled like natural gas plus it wasted a lot of fuel when you consider the millions of homes that had pilot lights.
Have a close look at the igniter as you try to light it. The porcelain around the outside can have a small crack that spark will follow and your see the spark actually follow the crack

Wow thanks for that!! I'm glad you figured out the burner issue!!
This video has made my top 10 list of most useful youtube videos. Thank you.

This saved me!!! It was the little hole that was clogged. Fixed easily with a safety pin.

Greetings from Canada!
Yes!!!!! Out of all the videos that I have watch. YOURS was the winner 🎊. Thank you!!!! Much appreciated your knowledge!
Thanks for that great feedback!
Oh the spider had me wincing! But that's a great tip
Oh gosh, me too! Should have had a trigger alert 😂
@@SweetColo haha yes a "Spider ⚠ Warning" for next time please Chris
Your video helped me to sort the non sparking ignitor problem.
Simple & easy guides, thanks a bunch.
Great to hear!
This is amazingly easy to understand and follow. Fixed my problem. Thank you.
Brilliant!! I can’t wait to try these on my JennAire, which I love but has 2 burners that do this ❤
I fixed the problem by myself. Wow! Thank you a lot!

I will use this info for my outdoor grill side burner

I don't have a gas stove, but still very useful info to help someone who does..
Solved it. The little supply hole was plugged. Thank you
Once you understand it, it's pretty straight forward. Glad it helped.

Matches can get you by for a long time.

Awesome thank you that worked for me :)
Fixed my problem. Thank you.

Thank you very much for sharing.
Sometimes there's grease buildup around the gas handle that's prevents from the gas to reach the burning well.
@@UmanPC then what do you do? It didn’t work for one of my burners
What’s the gas handle
What’s the “gas handle “?
@@nikkisfavs5465 "Handle" I mean gas knob 😄
I have this issue. Thanks!
I'm going to do that right this second!
You sound like Scotty Kilmer’s less outrageous cousin.
Lol!
@@chrisnotap Seriously, thanks for the video though. Have this issue and hoping to fix it soon.
It worked!
Just going to check one of mine now.
Great video
Or even shorter, just grab your fire lighter, the butane buggers with the piezo lighter.
I have an oven sheet that goes on the bottom to catch spills. Can you use one for the gas burners?
That’s a good question. The best would be to find it online and see what it says about gas stoves.
It just needed a little wipe xD thanks!
Great tips
Thanks

If I don’t have regular toothpaste can I use the one for sensitive gums?
Lol yes!
@@chrisnotap 👌🏻🙂
THANKS!
You're welcome!
Many thanks! The orifice was clogged on mine.
It's usually something simple. That's great!
👍👍👍.Thank you Chris
My pleasure!
What about if it's wet around the igniting metal part?
Any water on the ignitor can cause it to not spark.
Good tips thanks for sharing YAH bless !
I miss my gas stove. Bought a new house with an electric. It'll be years before I can swap it out.
Or sell it and buy gas. Why be sad ?
Got this to 1K likes 😎
my stove lights up fine but the problem is it turns off as soon as i let go my hand on the knob, what could be the problem?
Tried everything but one of the four burners will not ignite…no spark there
Have a close look at the igniter as you try to light it. The porcelain around the outside can have a small crack that spark will follow and your see the spark actually follow the crack
💖
And if that doesn't work then likely a switch.
What if you don’t hear the ticking anymore on any of the burners? What is that issue?
Go on TH-cam and search “ignitor not working” along with your brand of stove. That will give you a starting point on where to start checking
Isn't that shocking!
2 seconds in and blocked.
Do what I did, get an induction stove. No more ignition issues, incredibly precise temperature control, no more c
No more combustion products to vent.
Unfortunately you didn't address the more serious problem "NO SPARK AT ALL"!!!
👍👌👏
Watched the whole video
Got an electric stove 😅
Was that your wife’s toothbrush?
Shhhh. Quiet.
@@chrisnotap😂
Hmmm still mad at u 🤔
