I always knew I'd never have the stamina for the road, but it would have been awesome to be the "local talent" now and then, as long as i wasn't facing the Road Warriors, Vader, the Steiners, Davey Boy, etc etc

One thing that helps to make Curt Hennig the GOAT, is that he always let the jobbers get in a little bit of offense, maybe a minute or so, before destroying them. It always made them look just a tad bit better

S.D. Jones was a rare case of a Wimp (jobber) having a WWF figure!
The best wimps were the 1's used to grow the storyline. Like Brady Boone when Demolition kept Decapitating him and Billy Jack Haynes & Ken Patera (the Trail Blazers) came to his aid, only to get squashed themselves.
Or really entertaining moments like when Dave Studemeyer di his rain dance to the HonkyTonk Man's song.
Also Shawn Michaels once super-kicked a wimp outside the ring, then waited for the ref to reach 9 count, before sliding back inside and winning against a wimp by count-out!

To be fair, even from the little footage shown it looks like The Gambler really did love his gimmick, since he came down to the ring with a hand of cards. At the very least, that helps make him memorable, which instantly makes him one of the best jobbers in this entire video. I do wonder, though, who could be considered the most competitive jobber, i.e. the guy who actually had decently competitive matches every time but just never could actually win a match in the end.

Most competitive job guy? Barry Horowitz. He had the size and almost had the athleticism. If you needed a semi-competitive but ultimately a squash match, Barry was your guy.

@@zlinedavidYeah, but Horowitz actually wound up being given a minor push during his feud with Chris Candido/Skip in 1995/1996, so I think that kind of DQs him from contention.

About time someone put these guys over. It wasn't mentioned, but Buck Quartermain also worked a while with ECW. I go back a long way as a wrestling fan, so I remember job guys from the days when all you saw on TV wrestling were squash matches. Guys like: Tomas Marin, Joe Turco, Rocky Tamayo, Mike Pappas, Mike "Porky Pig" Loren (who often came to the ring with a piglet on a leash), Pete Doherty, Lenny Solomon, Vicente Pometti, The Cisco Kid, Lee Wong, Juan Caruso, Pancho Valdez, Jim Lancaster, and way more than you can count, and they existed only to get the holy hell beaten out of them. And of course, the King of the Jobbers himself, the unpredictable Johnny Rodz.

My coworker has a friend that has been in the indy scene. I don't know what's come of it but, this friend received a phone call from the NWA to come and do some jobs locally when they come to town. I guess he told my coworker that if he could he'd have him come to the ring with him one time. That sounds like the coolest thing to me. That would practically be a dream come true.
