Thank you SO much. I could hardy sleep last night worrying about what the problem was. Went to auto zone and got it read and mine was the intake. Watched your video and got it done. Lots of DIY videos are confusing or gloss over important steps but your video mixed with what you were telling me got me all the way through no problem. THANK YOU!!!
Not sure if you check old posts, but I have a 2011 Chevy Equinox and I just had to replace these, instead of taking it to a shop "440.00" I was able to buy the parts "29.99 on amazon" and fix it myself within 45 min. thanks so much man
I wasn't expecting it but with this Video I was able Pull the Exhaust Solenoid, clean it, test it (with questionable results) reinstall and after some road testing the code(s) cleared. (Before the testing was able to clear the pending codes, with just a "permanent" P0013 sticking around) So I saved around $30-$100 and time getting the parts. The part I have didn't even look dirty. Screens/Ports looked Good. Oil Level and Condition good too. Don't think I've ever seen Sludge Buildup in this engine but a quick cleaning seems to have done the trick.
This has been the most detailed and helpful video I have ever watched for working on a car. Thanks to this i now have full confidence in fixing my terrain! Subbed
What a good video man. Amen to your last rant. I do all my mechanic work, my wife and i have 4 vehicles and you cloud just imagine what I’d spend just in cutting rotors and break pads, oil change. Not to mention other more expensive stuff. PEOPLE PLEASE MAKE YOUR BEST EFFORT TO DO YOUR OWN MECHANIC WORK. This job seriously is a walk in the park. Again thanks for the video.
Thank you for making this video....as someone in the medical field I rarely get a chance to save money on care repairs. You saved me $ 300 ! ! God bless and keep making those videos my friend.
You were replacing the camshaft position actuator/solenoid, not the camshaft position sensor, which is located on the sides of the cylinder head at the driver's (left) end of the engine. The links to Amazon actually call these components by their correct name. No complaints on your troubleshooting and correcting the problem, just wrong terminology.
Yes you are right what he changed is called Actuator/solenoid the Camshaft position sensor is different its on the right side of the engine near the battery i found that there are 4 sensor in my 2012 chevy Equinox 1 intake Actuator and 2 Exhaust Actuator and 3 intake Camshaft position sensor and 4 Exhaust Camshaft position sensor thanks for correcting him...
Thank you for video. I replaced my intake one in Sept. 2018, with your help from this video. My check engine light came back on now and it is the same thing. Last time just replaced the intake. This time I'm going to do both. As soon as that code came and how my car was acting I knew I had to come back to your video. Thank you so much!!
I know you posted this a while ago.....but I just wanted to say thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. Seriously, you saved me from having to take the car to a mechanic and getting completely raked over the coals. Thank you again! Great video......the money I saved I'll have a beer for you tonight.
I just wanna say thank you so much for the video it helped me and engraved a valuable lesson in my life it's funny how one never stops learning or being able to learn from a complete stranger you got a good heart keep up your wisdom open
Thank you for this video! Had my sensor replaced by the shop (p0014) a year ago and it was covered under my Warrenty. It was roughly 600.00 bucks that I didn’t have to pay for due to the Warrenty but just a few days ago my engine light turned on again and according to OnStar it’s the same exact issue (p0014) if the part isn’t covered under their parts Warrenty than I’m going to do it myself. Thanks again!

This is a great video. I just wish you would update the title. These are intake and exhaust VVT solenoids. The actual cam sensors are on driver's side of the vehicle on front and back of the cylinder head.
I’m waiting on my parts from Amazon now. As soon as they get here I’ll be replacing both my intake and exhaust solenoids. Thanks for the informative video!!
I need to add it’s because of you I am getting new pistons and rings after six months of a consumption test and waiting for an available tech. There wasn’t a recall issued for Canadian models even though they have the same problem
Oh man thank you so much for posting this my wife's 2011 Terrain just threw a P0014 code and has a rough idle and stalls out periodically. Going to check these sensors now! Hopefully it fixes it. You may have just saved my life.
Good video. The "crazy horseshoe" is Omega, the symbol for resistance. Plus, when you first turn on the meter you should touch the leads together to measure 0 ohms. That way you're sure the meter and leads are working correctly.
So I'm getting ready to change my oil, and I had a friend a few months ago use a scanner to tell me what my check engine was, because it wasn't a constant thing. It had said it was the camshaft sensor. Anyway, I had gotten to the "mouse nest" part and laughed, because I had paused when you said to remove the cover. When I removed it there was a spot with bits of thread and whatnot near the oil cap area.
Thanks for the Video. Besides breaking the White/Beige Plastic Tab on the Exhaust Value's Electrical Connector (I was expecting it to pull straight out)... after cleaning the Valve and reinstalling/testing the road test cleared the codes so You saved me at least $30-100 in parts. As it seems redundant I'm hopefully I'll have time to find some replacement tabs for the Electrical Connector(s)... Hopefully GM doesn't charge $20 each. Might invest in the removal tool if they do...
Thank you for your video. I followed your instructions and succeeded! I can't believe the dealership could even think about charging so much for something that took me half hour to do and that was while holding my 4mo old granddaughter in one arm during it! Lol
Good stuff....just bought a used Terrain...literally on the way home the check engine light came on. Then I saw the date on the dash info screen was Feb 26, 2012.....so the scumbag that sold me the truck disconnected the battery to conceal the fault. It came up as a P0014 Got a pair of CMP solenoids on the way.
Since I dont work at the car dearlship anymore,I have to find someone else to replace it. I refuse to pay $400-500 to fix my camshaft, when I can do it myself. Thank you for this video
GM Dealership wanted $350.00 to replace both because they said both Intake and Exhaust were bad. My son in law replaced both for under $50.00 and it took less then an hour. Goes to show you just how bad the Dealership will rip you off.
We have a 2010 gmc terrian and had a timing chain replaced but it still making a noise and something keeps draining the battery? Before the timing chain was replaced the exhaust solenoid code was on. After replacing the timing chain multiple codes are on now any ideas? The emc and pcm codes most electrical stuff
2008 Saturn Vue with a P0340 and P0341 Only says Camshaft position sensor A circuit manufuction. Thank you so fuckin much for the information about the A for intake and B for exhaust couldn't find that anywhere.
Hi, there! Very good video! Not many people explain their walk-through of the reaper and show every step like you do; thank you!! But is this the same process for a 2013 Equinox that has a V6 3.6L?
Thanks so much for this. Really helped me out. Hats of to working on this in freezing weather. just did mine in 75 degree weather. I'm such a wimp. $61.00 a piece for these things in Southern California from the Chevy dealer BTW.
Mine registered 9 on the ohms meter. I have already replaced mine and now it’s ticking. The motor wasn’t doing that earlier. It only threw one code one time.
I was quoted $517.00 with them say this is hard to get at.while the engine is apart for recall this would be a good time to fix it, thanks for the info
@@TheStruggleville Yes I like the new look of these vehicles and I was considering buying a used one. There's a couple of fixes that you can do yourself such as just cleaning out the PCV valve and hose with carburetor fluid, and some people suggest getting a vented oil filler cap that will resolve that problem and keep the rear seal from blowing.
I just tested both of mine ( 2012 Terrain 2.4l), and the resistance for both intake and exhaust was 12.5 and 12.6. I'm stumped. Aren't they supposed to be between 6 and 8????

okay sweet so this doubles as replacing the VVT (Variable valve timing) solenoids that are both (Exhaust and Intake) that are going out on my 12 Equinox 2.4
I just replaced the one on the far side with the black plastic plug in, and oil is leaking all over, can i be a bad part? I made sure it was snug down but its leaking pretty good
Sounds like its not seated properly. I did this video quite some time ago so the details are fuzzy but it you may want to take the bolt out and wiggle the sensor a bit to see if it will go down any further. Also I believe it has a seal on it, maybe you are missing the seal or sometimes its possible for the old part to leave its seal on the engine and doubling up on the seals can cause a leak.
Okay I just pulled mine out I got a bunch of bearing material in mine stopped it up I guess it's crankshaft bearings I don't know it's not knocking or anything

No oil or low oil or wrong oil will also cause the vvt solenoid to appear bad. Fix the oil first then restore the mil and go from there
