Just passed the one year mark on my CSP and upgraded to the CSR. Be aware when moving credit limits between cards, it can temporarily drop your credit score because it looks like the card issuer decreased your limit. Especially if the card with the new higher limit takes a while to register on your report.
I got the CSP my last year of college, made the min spend (fronting club expenses / friend dinners and then getting reimbursed) and got that 60k bonus. I'm planning on upgrading to the CSR when I hit the 1 year mark because my PEV is higher for the CSR for year 2+. Thanks Sebby for your CSP vs CSR calculator, and for other insight videos like this! It helps make me feel at ease knowing I'm maximizing money I would have already spent on everyday things :) Keep it up & tell Mandy I said hi.
@@david7anto you can only hold one Sapphire card at a time, but it's a 48-month rule for earning the intro bonus. Before my 48-months are up, I believe I could downgrade to a Chase Freedom or FU and then sign-up for the CSR again once I'm out of the 48-month lock.
Im struggling to find my CSP usefully now that i have had the amex gold for about 9 months. I am only keeping the CSP for the UR points and booking my flights with my points that i have and getting the benefits on trip delay and what not.

Store whatever points you get for hitting min spend, then product change to CSR, then transfer points to airline partners to get most value?? what you think?
I might have missed it in the video, but I called in to Chase today to upgrade, and one thing you can’t do with the upgrade is take advantage of the sign up bonus on the reserve, you need to apply for a whole new account and downgrade the preferred to a freedom or slate. Hello. I just got my CSP card. So I'll have to wait a year to apply for the CSR, Understood. My question is, is it best to upgrade the card or apply for the CSR card? Thanks for the information in this video.
I have the CSR right now 2019, so in 2023 I can get the bonus again to re-apply. Would I then need to down grade to CSP in year before my 4th year ends. Then they will let me Upgrade back to CSR to get a sign in bonus or they will just give me the availability to gain the bonus by spending $X amount? Thanks!
You would have to downgrade to a non-Sapphire product (although not sure if that includes the regular non-Preferred Sapphire) like Freedom or FU if you want to stay within the UR arena or to a Slate if you won't care for that card. You can't have a Preferred and a Reserve at the same time. It's a "one or the other" deal.

Your APR should reflect a small decrease with the change on any card that uses a "variable APR rate". This means that if it goes up, your APR will go up and vice versa.
Can you upgrade to the CSR from the Chase Slate, but I only have $5500 CL on it, and already fall in the 5-24 rule chase has (so can't really get anymore Chase cards!)? Do you really need the 10k CL to upgrade to the CSR? I can increase my limit but will have to sacrifice an inquiry, and don't really want to do that since I can get just get a different card from a different bank
Great Video as usual and very informative. I just have a quick question. So if I open the CSP and get the bonus then maybe 18months later i upgrade to CSR, would i get the sign-up bonus for that as well? If not how long do i have to wait till i am qualified to get a sign-up bonus? Thank you
The last part of the video applies to me as well, student and looking at the CSP and wanting to go CSR when I graduate and start traveling more. Thanks!!
My wife and I both got the preferred due to a split purchase that allowed us to each hit the 60k bonus. I'll eventually switch to a reserve but she has no plans to use the card and I'll want her to downgrade. Should she use her card for the remainder of the year getting 1% (she makes minimal purchases) so that chase doesn't think she just got it for the bonus? (which we actually did)
YES if your wife wants more cards from chase and have only recently hit that min spend (your wife probably won't want to be bad side of chase), NO if your wife doesn't care about chase cards or if it has already been close to a year and it's almost time for annual fee fun time. OR just have her apply for a freedom unlimited for 1.5% if you want the extra points, then product change her CSP to a regular freedom once she hits the 1 year mark.
Hey Sebby. I have the CSP and received the 60k SUB. After a year I would like to upgrade into the CSR, would I be eligible for the CSR SUB if I product change into the upgrade?

Good video. Question: If I want to drop credit limits on two of my Chase cards (as I want to apply for a new card), is it better to secure message or call direct? I don't think Chase will give me more credit.
Juan Campos I would just apply for the card and if denied call the rep and ask then why you got denied blah blah blah and ask “can I please move over existing limit from my other cards to open this new account, I really love the benefits blah blah blah”. Does upgrading (from CSP to CSR in my case) cause a hard pull on my credit?
No
Yay new vid! #SebbySquad #NotificationSquad #TH-camAlgorithm
You should have done dragonball z example then i would have understood
Can someone let me know their experience with trying to get both sapphire bonuses? My plan was to open to the preferred, have it for a year, close it, bonus hunt else where for the 24 months (time required by chase to qualify for a bonus again & while staying aware of 5/24 obvi), then get the reserve. Thoughts?
No, Sapphire cards have a 48 month rule (4 years).
4th???
Doesn't the 2.5% fee pretty much negate any benefits you get from using the credit card? Pay tuition using credit card just to get measly 50000 points? This is some God awful tips you're handing out to students.
Why does your voice sound deeper and slightly slower in this video?
6:34 🤣🤦🏼♂️🤣🤦🏼♂️🤣🤦🏼♂️
😁😄😃
Please focus on topic. No need to go over all the permutations. Super frustrating

I just canceled my CSR before the $450 annual fee kicked in. There wasn’t a downgrade path from it to a no annual fee card. I’m planing to get the US Bank altitude reserve card next.
Even if the fee hits, it's refunded if you cancel/downgrade within 30 days.
You can generally downgrade to Freedom, CFU, Slate, CS, CSP: www.asksebby.com/blog/chase-product-change-rules-2018
Should've done a digimon reference
woohoo chase freedom unlimited owner since August 2019

If I start with the Chase Freedom Card will I lose out on the sign up bonuses when I eventually get the Chase Sapphire Reserved? Thank you
If you upgrade from freedom to Sapphire then you won’t get bonuses but if you sign up new account you will
No bonus for upgrades: th-cam.com/video/Adds1DCNB9g/w-d-xo.html
No bonus if you currently hold a CS/CSP/CSR: www.asksebby.com/blog/rules-to-know-for-chase-credit-card-applications
@@jbarres80 Yep. It's generally better off to sign up for new cards for this reason.
