She still has no desire to run a large set up so what we been doing is I get the cards we split the spend to make sure we hit large sign up bonus. There is one advantage I see in both spouses collecting cards from the same issuer... You can refer each other, getting additional points from referral bonuses.
    So for example, if my wife opens an amex platinum with a 60k point bonus this year, I can actually get another 20k bonus off a referral from my Amex Business Gold card, making that one application worth 80k total for our family.
    Another thing I noticed is that not all Amex cards carry the same referral bonuses... The Amex Business Gold card for example gives 20k points per referral (vs. just 10k for alot of the other amex cards).

    • @AngieStonesPhD
      @AngieStonesPhD 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did the same with my kids :)

    • @SolidLiquidFox
      @SolidLiquidFox 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's how my wife and I started in the SPG cards. We each grabbed 1 then referred each other for 5K Starwood points. Now the play would be as you described for the Platinum followed by product changing your Platinums for a gold and a green each (if the rumors on the upcoming green are true). Then get a Schwab Platinum after that.

    • @szearc
      @szearc 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SolidLiquidFox Nice! But actually I wouldn't do those product changes - with Amex's once in a lifetime bonus, I have heard that you may become ineligible for that card's signup bonus even if you got that card through a product change. (Amex has a rule where you are not eligible for a signup bonus if you have ever had that product before)
      Instead of product changing, I would just use referral links to open the Green card and Gold card and open them up separately. Amex now lets you refer from any card to a different product. Although the referral link initially shows the offer for the same card, once the referred player clicks on the link, they can actually change their card selected to any other Amex card they want, and the referring player still gets the referral bonus for the original card they referred from. (this doesn't work for cobranded cards, only if referring from amex branded cards)

    @kartikniyogi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks Shebby for this hugely informative video. My wife has a little better credit history than me. So I get high end cards on her account and pick low hanging cash back cards on my account.
    But I am slowly moving up the ladder to get mid level travel cards like BOA premium or Amex gold.
    Again thanks a lot 👍. You are the best!!

  • @szearc
    @szearc 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am running a similar setup except instead of the Chase trifecta, I have an Amex quadfecta on player 1: Schwab Platinum, Amex Gold, BBP, and Business Gold card... As a backup we have the BofA Platinum Honors setup earning cash back at 75% extra.
    Currently we are also building out the hotel keeper cards, last year we opened one SPG luxury card, and two SPG business cards, for a total signup bonus of 300k marriot points (plus referral bonuses) and today I just opened up two more SPG personal cards for the 75k bonuses since that card is going to be closed to new applicants beginning in February. The plan is most likely to finish maxing out marriot cards on the amex side with one more luxury card, for a total of 6 marriot keeper cards.
    After this last SPG card, player 2 is going to focus only on business cards that do not affect 5/24 for a couple years, until under 5/24 at which point she will start with opening the Chase business cards followed by 5 other chase cards to max out on Chase before doing anything else.
    Player 1 in the meantime will continue to open the Hilton cards, and airline cards with downgrade paths.

  • @szearc
    @szearc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wish they would relaunch the Ritz card, with 100k points signup bonus and no 5/24... that would be awesome

    Hi Sebby, I recently asked a question in Fico forum about techniques on opening up more cards in quickest way. Some people mentioned about AAoA scores problem if I apply too much within a short time frame. I researched AAoA and I know it is about the house rent thing. I think if you make videos about AAoA scores would be helpful for many viewers as many of us do not know about it and it seems like it will be a problem if we are gardening in high speed.

  • @SolidLiquidFox
    @SolidLiquidFox 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Your SPG strategy is similar to ours but my logic is to have most of the Amex/Chase cards under 1 Player. That way its easier to hit those 35 nights to platinum. Player 2 should only keep 1 personal SPG card at $99 (or Lux if ok with $450 AF) in case there is an Amex offer for $40 off $200 with a Marriott brand. That leaves them free to focus their Amex slots for Hilton or Delta. So P1 (me) has Ritz, Chase Biz, 2 Lux, Amex biz and soon a regular SPG before it going away. Logic says 1 lane rule should disappear in the future so that's a Marriott Boundless card to be added down the line.

    • @szearc
      @szearc 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      SolidLiquidFox That makes alot of sense if you know you will have alot of marriot stays... For us, I'm not sure if we would be able to maintain 35 nights per year just at Marriot however

    • @SolidLiquidFox
      @SolidLiquidFox 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I probably wont hit Platinum the next 8 consecutive years, but it will be easier to achieve lifetime status as a long term goal. Given 7 nights in certificates and $600 in Lux credits taking care of about 5 more nights, 23 out of pocket nights per year is a less daunting task those years I decide to meet the 50 threshold for Platinum.

    • @mav922able

      @@SolidLiquidFox with the new Marriott card changes coming up I believe the 1 lane rule will go away as well, maybe even on Feb 13.

      @@SolidLiquidFox not sure if this would make sense for you to do but I hosted a meeting at a Marriott last week(I usually hold these at IHG) just so I can get 10 nights credited to my rewards account just for holding an event. My event is 9-5 related, and I figured with 15 nights coming from the cc and 10 coming from my event I am already at 25 nights(gold status). The conference room I got was $150+taxes per day. Could 10 nights credited be worth $150+taxes?

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Upgrading doesn't make sense unless you've had the card: www.asksebby.com/blog/should-you-upgrade-your-american-express-card
      Path #1 (If you travel enough):
      a) Apply for Aspire = 150k bonus
      b) Upgrade Ascend to 2nd Aspire = upgrade offer
      Path #2 (If that doesn't make sense based off travel):
      a) Apply for Hilton (no-AF)
      b) Apply for Aspire
      c) Downgrade Ascend to no-AF option
      Rational for #1 = signup bonus + upgrade bonus vs. upgrade bonus
      Rational for #2 = signup bonus > upgrade bonus

    Thanks for the great video!!Can you comment on AUs, How does/would it affects their Chase 5/24 status?Does it block an AU from their own sign up bonus for a card where they are currently/already an AU if they wanted to apply for their own card?and how to rectify if so... with an eye one 2 player set up??For example an AU on an INK Biz preferred or a Chase Marriott personal..

    • @szearc
      @szearc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Authorized users on personal cards *do* count towards 5/24, so if you are under 5/24 be sure not to add that player as an authorized user on an non-business cards until after you are done with Chase. If both players are under 5/24, instead of adding authorized users, I would have each player refer the other to get referral bonuses and open up the 3 business cards + 5 personal cards, so you can complete your Chase cards, then move onto other issuers.
      If you have already added an authorized user, I believe the business card authorized users do not count. For the personal cards, I have read that if you you have authorized users and get instantly denied for an application because of 5/24, you can call in to Chase for reconsideration and if they say that you have too many accounts recently, you can tell them that your new accounts were authorized user accounts and they may approve you.
