  • Hello folks! I think I received hundreds of comments from my last video saying I should really get some sawhorses to take to the cliff because everyone thinks I'm gonna kill myself! I aim to please, so here they are!
I have watched several videos on different sawhorse styles, but settled on one by Steve Ramsey (for a simple folding sawhorse with shelf), and part way through discovered yet another video by Sharpey's Workshop showing an even simpler one that I really liked. I ended up using a combination of both of those designs to come up with my own version! The nice thing about Sharpey's Workshop version is that it requires the least amount of hardware (2 hinges and some screws), no challenging cuts (the lap joins could be omitted for the sake of time, or lack of tools but I really like the sleekness they add to the overall look). The only thing I purchased for this entire set of sawhorses was one pair of hinges ($5) for the second one I made.
I tried to design a fabric shelf for the bottom, but it didn't quite work out as well as I was hoping - I will either tweak it, or just use an old ratchet strap again, or try a wooden shelf design. Or just leave it Michelle, cuz who cares. 😂
Clyde is doing really well following 3 tooth extractions and some other work to his mouth (gums), and a deep ear cleaning (plant matter found in one ear!). I can't get over what a sweet soul of a dog he is 💝 Makes me sad to think of all the great dogs out there without homes 😔
See you all in the next video!
    M 💕

Now that I have been able to see a bit more of Clyde, close up, and hear his bay, I can definitively state that he is 100% Treeing Walker Coonhound. Thank you for adopting him. Most folks are not prepared to care for these hounds. They need room to run and they can be very vocal (especially at night). Clyde is a lucky dog to have such great owners now. Good work on that sawhorse!

@@michygoss7148 , I have had the blessing of taking care of dozens of hounds over the past two decades. I rescue Walkers. I have had others; English Foxhounds, American Foxhounds, Blue Ticks, red Bones, mountain Cur, beagles of different varieties from pocket beagle to Harrier. Clyde has a big blockhead like one of my larger TWCs. That dog was bread to chase bear originally before he was abandoned and fell into my care. Clyde is a bit larger boned than the average TWC perhaps but he really looks and sounds like a TWC. They are so loyal and affectionate. Mine enjoy baying loudly in response to packs of coyote and sometimes, just to hear the sound of their own voices echo off the mountains around them. My window panes rattle from their nightly cacophony. Keeps the wolves at bay.

Those are fine! There are as many sawhorse designs as there are carpenters, and it depends on what you need them to do. Yours are light and portable, as they ought to be. And, believe me, you always need a couple sawhorses, for one thing or another. They can sit under your cabin, waiting to be a table, or to hold something being painted, or whatever.

That's what I like.. Adapt ideas and make your own final product. I also don't like to "steal" ideas or just copy them, I always think of exactly what I need and then modify or combine accordingly. Good use of scrap or repurposed wood. I had some particle board pieces around the shop, which I tripped every day over it, last weeek I took the pieces, cut them and made a table for my 3d printer. It came out quite nice, not a craftsman beauty but more functional than it needs to be. On the other side, well, we all know how the particle board works.. 😉 Cheers, Michy, keep on.

For your shelf idea on the lower part of the sawhorse, put a piece of plywood with a hinge on one side and a simple screen door hook or wood cleat on the other. That way when you fold the horse up the plywood shelf will fold up towards the top and when you put the horse to work you can hook it or have the cleat hold it open so that it is more stable. Thanks for sharing.

Great saw horse build but don’t overthink the bottom shelf. Two suggestions 1) just use a scrap piece of plywood on site for your bottom shelf with 4 screws protruding down through the plywood on the outside on your bottom braces so you just pick the shelf up and out of the way when you fold up your sawhorse, and if you need a bigger cutting, clamping surface screw a 2x6 to the one side of split top 2x4. It’s a sacrificial pice that you can damage and replace easily. Nice sawhorses, great design

Hey girl. About the shelve. You can make it simple. Make the width the full span of the sawhorse. Understand it as a shelve resting upon the two sarg (horisontal pieces aligning the legs). If you make it as a solid piece with a cut out for the placement of both sarg, then you get a very rigid and transportable sawhorse with all the options you wished fore... 😉

Thanks for doing this video... I want to replace those two cheap-ass plastic sawhorses with a wooden variety of folding sawhorse. This is perfect. Stick those saw horses in the shed or under the cabin on the cliff when you're done building. They can be handy for things outside of construction. I like the one with the cloth stretcher. Very cool design.

Except it didn’t work! Haha. Dang it. I’m sure it can be modified cuz it makes them even more lightweight than a wood shelf.

If you want girl you can mount a sacrificial two by four on the top of the saw horse so whenever you need to cut into it, that is the two by four it's not a big deal. Than later on when you've made too many cuts into that top two by four than just replace it. Btw you'll be happy too when you get to use those saw horses to finish up that job on the cabin they help bigtime. smart move girl smart move.

Good build. Fine dogs. Clyde too. Your imaginative and adaptive, if your vision isn't correct, you update and move on. Great stuff. Compelling story. My experience has been that by the time I figure it out I'm done with the project. Better to positively react then to dissipate your focus and time pursuing perfection. Often when repeating something from sometime ago, I just begin anew, clean sheet. It keeps my mind and spirit alive. But this you know and show in your lively spirit. God bless.

Wow, that’s a lot of snow. My grandmas dog, Jethro, would sing (howl) with me, fun times. We found him as a puppy out in a cow pasture, covered in ticks, we cleared him and gave him a bath. You’re going to love the saw horses.

Clyde is a sweetheart. Lucky you have him. I noticed a dog I have not seen before? Not sure what bread it is. Maybe I just have not seen it? That was so much snow good call getting help ! Saw horses should serve you well.

Hi Michelle, great job on the saw horses, instead of burning them you could make a trestle table or a trestle bench seat out of them, seems a waste to just chuck them away. Seeya Rob

Another great video! I'm sure you thought of it, but I would snug up the ratchet straps in the RV shed and maybe add some in case you get hit with a bunch of snow again. Always enjoy seeing what you are up to!

Hi Michelle - Will your cliffside cabin need a table when you are done building it? You could use the sawhorses for table legs. Re-purpose and re-use.
Have a great day. Regards, Randy in Arizona

Good job on the saw horses. Once you start using them, you will find all kinds of things to do with them. Much like a TV dinner tray around the house.
