    Campers, regardless of brand, are notorious for hidden leaks.
    For anyone else interested in buying a used camper... Ask the seller if you can do a mold test. Mark your mold tests so they can't switch them out. Usually takes 48 hrs. If they wont, keep looking.
    As for the video... Excellent production. Very well shot and edited!!
    Definitely a new fan of the channel!

      @@michygoss7148 The reason for all this is the rain gets in from the outside corner trim. It's all around including the roof edge and even around windows. It all should be removed cleaned, and reinstalled with marine caulk sealer not the crappy cheap ribbon caulk the RV builders use.

    People sure do suck occasionally that’s a fact. It’s too bad about the camper but thank goodness Steve is a jack of all trades. I know fiberglass is not pleasant to work with but it should really help with your situation. Just make sure it’s all sealed up and it should be fine. I feel your pain I had a farmer lie to me about a tractor’s condition that I bought from him. Like you guy’s, I spent a lot of money for it. Then after a short time using it I had to spend quite a bit to make it right. One advantage I had was that I had in writing a condition statement and I refused to buy it with the “As Is” statement on the bill of sale. I sued him and got some of the repair $ back and he had to pay legal expenses. I lost the use of the tractor for an extended period. Sadly, honesty is a rarer human trait anymore.

    That is disheartening. If the sellers intentionally misled you, shame on them. What a crapy thing to do when charging for a camper (or anything) that is in "good" repair. Any time you buy from a private party, you should expect the sale to be as is, but they should also disclose any major issue and reduce the price accordingly. I'm sorry that you"re having this problem. It looked like a great camper and you will make it so. Sending prayer and positive thoughts.

    Unfortunately, leaks are just a part of owning a camper/RV or any structure one drives down the road. As they say, every time you drive down the road its like a house going through an earthquake. Just a cautionary word to anyone thinking about buying a used camper... if the owner tells you there are no leaks, you can be pretty sure they are simply unaware of any leaks (unlikely) or, they are flat out lying to you. Are there unicorns once in a while, sure, but who has seen one ! Hoping for the best for you with your restoration project.

    I became very familiar with Methylethylketone Ketone Peroxide Spirits in a Dimethyl Phthalate when I lived on Grand Cyman Islands in the B.W.I. Jim Daily had a big 55-gallon drum of resin and we used to sell the resin and hardener. The drum fell off of the cradle and broke the spigot (it was almost empty, and we had to tip it to get the last few gallons out) dumping the remains of the resin on the floor of the small hut that contained the drum. Phew! I lost about 100 K brain cells that day! Great video thumbs up.

    My son is going through the very same thing right now; he was told everything was fine and then found all the mold and rotted wood. Now he has to spend this summer fixing his the same as you folks. On a recent 10 day camping trip in a 2021 camper that he "rented" from a friend, he spent the first three days repairing a multitude of leaks, non-functioning drain lines, and a repair list that was a mile long. When he went to an RV dealer for parts, the tech there told him that most of these campers today are made in Elkhart IN and most leave the factory with all of those leaks and problems because they are litterally thrown together with little to no quality control. The only manufacturer that I can say is the exception right now is Lance Camper Manufacturing in Lancaster CA, known for both their very high quality campers. I owned a small used Lance fifth wheel a few years back and it had zero problems. It was well made and had excellent fit and finish with nice oak trim. When I spoke to Lance about why we never see their campers on the east coast, he said because every camper we make gets sold before they leave the west coast. Good luck with the rebuild of your "No Leak" gem. My advice to anyone contemplating a camper purchase, knowing what I know now is, DO NOT pay anything down until it has been thoroughly inspected ALL OVER, and UNDER, by someone knowledgeable about campers. That industry is fraught with rain soaked, rotted moldy units. Buyer beware!

    • @michygoss7148
      @michygoss7148  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So true. As I’m learning, pretty much every camper or trailer has problems/water seepage of some sort, just varying degrees. Sad - there really should be some building codes for these units. Okanagan campers do have a fairly good reputation, but even the good ones can develop problems if not taken care of properly. We almost looked at a Lance camper, but she was upfront in telling me it had a leak in the front, so I passed on even looking at it because I simply didn’t want to spend a summer renovating a camper!!!
      And here we are! I’m sweating buckets working away on ours as we speak! 🤪

    What a disappointment this must be... You two will have it better than new. Having had 4 motorhomes, it's them being left outside in the winter especially where there is a lot of snow, any outside seam that requires recaulking is a potential for disaster if not inspected at least every 6 months. You need to find the area where the water is coming in if at all possible... Perhaps you could take it to a car wash and have and one stay inside while one really sprays the seams to see if there are any visible leaks. I am surprised there wasn't any outside delamination of the lauan and the fiberglass, creating a bubble or something along those lines...
    Sexy Lexi you are so creative. And your next project should be an area to store the slide in, under cover.

  • @TimsWorkshopTJY
    @TimsWorkshopTJY 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I found out after many years with RV's that it's a tossup between boats and RVs for Money pits. The key with RV's is to have a covered area to store them. Covers are expensive and don't last. The money saved is building a structure instead. If you think sealing them is the cure all fix it's not. Seal is rubber and like all rubber doesn't last IE leaks start.

    It’s a drag to get surprised like that. The mold testing someone else mentioned is a good idea. You could also use a moisture meter to do an inspection - that should help give you some percentages of moisture behind walls, ceiling, etc. Too late in this case, but worth pulling out such inspection tools when looking over something that’s used - watch the seller’s face when you start checking . 🙂

      All good ideas, another possibility is to hire someone that specializes in RV inspections, they usually guarantee their work. This way if you find a problem later you got a contract to fall back on for the repairs. Cheap insurance in my opinion.

    A good alternative is an aluminum framed camper, they don't droop over time.. But the trade off is that they can be a lot more complicated to fix if you run into into something by accident. Also, Lexi is smokin' hot!

    Good luck with the camper repairs. As long as you get it water tight you can ‘make do’ inside like you did in your shed just for the trip in July then fit it out properly when you both have a bit more time. Shame on the people that sold the camper to you as they must have been aware of at least some of the issues. Keep smiling 🙂 Steve UK 🇬🇧

    I repaired a canoe that had been left in the bush and badly cracked due to heavy snow . Used about 2 yds of the same strand cloth and almost a gallon of resin. The worst crack got 3 layers of this cloth . Did the whole floor between the seat and yoke . Man is that hull stiff now .Haven't seen the canoe for over 5 yrs. But sure the repaired half has survived.

    Here on VI, we have been keeping an eye out for a trailer, either for camping, but mostly as a guest house since we have cat and dog and allergic kids and grandkids. EVERY aluminum skinned camper or trailer has had moisture issues. Some comes from bad engineering, poor joints, to condensation buildup from excessive use, or no use. My dad had a fiberglass Boler, and every spring my parents would be out there, scrubbing the mold (mildew) off the walls, because they would not spend the hydro money to keep a 100 watt light bulb on all winter, which adds some warmth, but mostly air flow and reduced condensation. We are partial to those Escape fiberglass trailers built in Vancouver, but not ready to pull the trigger on a $70,000 purchase, just for guests. (they are too busy to visit anyway.)

      Neighbours of ours just bought an escape trailer at that price tag! Better to just build yourself a tiny home thingy. But yeah, water penetration seems inevitable in these things. 😵‍💫

      @@michygoss7148 Considering the light weight and the included amenities, I guess $70,000 isn't a lot of money. Not everyone has all the neat tools(expensive), resources and the skills you have to build a tiny home. 🙂

    What bad luck great job fiber glassing for a repair is that the plan for the roof seams as well since it's fiberglass? As always good luck and God Bless.

    Ugh. I despise RVs, of all makes and models. In this case I would've given the previous owners a chance of redemption. It is possible they didn't know, maybe? True what Lexi said about others having it much worse. Having a camper leaking is definitely a "1st world problem". Keep on keepin' on Michy.

      Lol. It’s true. He really has zero interest in the whole TH-cam thing, which is why the channel is more mine, if you will. He entertains me a little here and there as I film, but he definitely just won’t participate in filming things he’s doing.

    How is it that I just found your channel. TH-cam just doesn't suggest enough of the GOOD TH-camrs. I've gone thru and watched, about a dozen of your vids. I gotta admit.... I'm impressed. Your VERY smart, ambitious, and not afraid to get a little dirt under your finger nails. And yes ... You are a great looking woman. Do you have a sister in the states? Lol. I'm a 30 year journeyman carpenter and it's NOT that easy to impress me, but you've done it.

    Look on the bright side. It isn't something you'll be living in full time. I live in my 5th wheel camper. My first one developed a leak over the bed while I was in it. Fixed the leak. Found a better one and sold the first one. 4 years into living in this one and I just finally developed my first leak. Very small leak but it was there. Thankfully an easy fix. Good luck on your repairs. Not sure on Canada laws but where I'm at black mold issues can't be sold as is. There is recourse here
