I'm a big fan of well-made and creative commercials. It was the career that I envisioned for myself when I was younger, and it's what I went to college for. It's probably what I'll do when this all stops working out. So I've loved watching all the fun Super Bowl commercials over the years because they always seem to take risks and think outside the box. But have things changed? Let's take a walk down memory lane.

I found all of the commercials on two different websites, here they are if you want to explore a little bit yourself! ispot.tv / superbowl-ads.com
I'm just gonna type a bunch of the company names mentioned in this video for SEO purposes, don't mind me. Tide, Oreo, Doritos, Mr. Clean, Bud Light, Snickers, Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Nerds, Pepsi, State Farm, Geico, Sabra, Go Daddy, M&Ms, E-Trade, FTX, Uber Eats, Skechers, okay that's enough I think. - ตลก
You know what else would be SUPER?? If you had a nice day :)
Ok I will :)
You too dude
That makes sense I suppose
im not doing too super,man

Real ones know that the greatest Super Bowl commercial of all time was Subway's "Subs Across America"*
Good thing they didn’t include Jared in that commercial, that would have been a disaster
i don't know about that. . . especially because of the end. 😐😳
SUBWAY ACROSS AMERICA
Top comment
I’m so glad, because Scott was definitely in it!
I will never forget "puppy-monkey-baby" because for MONTHS after the super bowl my entire 7th grade class would not stop saying "puppymonkeybaby"
I actually remember that one.
It gave people nightmares forever! 😱😱😱😱😱😱
It’s my grandpa’s nickname for his dog haha 😊
@@hamsterstyle6152 That is too funny.
I think I love your grandpa!
Yep. My dad says it to this day.
SAME
Scott reminds me a little woodland creature turned into a human. i don’t know what this means i just want him to know
i guess he knows now
Why would you say this?! I can't unsee it now 😭😭😭
Omg fr
So you're saying Scott is a changeling? 👀
Lil critter
The genuine hostage energy during the Helix ad. It must have been frustrating to put together a quality and earnest ad spot and then (I assume) get the "oh you forgot these three specific words, do it again" request.
"well rested and no aches and pains" was genuinely hilarious because he looks like he had the worst sleep imaginable
Malicious compliance at its best I bet! ✌️
TH-cam, Please give Scott his little professional qualification card. He actually knows what he's talking about this time and I think he deserves it. Thx in advance
I think, instead of for ads, it should be for expert it quiz shows!
This time. 😂
I'm gonna write an email to Mr. Tube directly. This should be resolved by next week.
I appreciate the wardrobe changes throughout the video to correspond with each decade
10:37 I've never heard a man laugh as hard as my pastor when he saw this commercial at the church's super bowl party
😭😭
"This is just a advertisement for my whole channel, nope it's a tide ad." Lmao
You and your channel are always such a delight Scott, thanks for the work you put into your videos. 😊
Jo and Scott! The youtuber crossover we need and deserve!
Hope you’re doing well, Jo 💕💕💕
Jo! It's so cool to see you here - hope you're having a lovely day!
Omg Jo! I remember one time in a video I noticed you had Strugglr merch, so seeing your comment here is awesome!
Praying over you, Jesus loves you
I feel the same way about all of the nostalgia bait. Please. I BEG. No more reboots, remasters, remakes or just general uses of past creations - there needs to be an end to it.
Reboots, remakes, reimaginings ... regurgitations.
I think it was NPR that discussed the astronomical cost of buying and making a Super Bowl Ad. Bottom line: expect more.
Unfortunately theyve been doing it since antiquity even Shakespeare has retellings of older stories
I loved it about the first 5 or 10 times... then I saw how many trash movies and shows we got just because it was nostalgic but the writing and everything else sucked, but since it was nostalgic, they assumed we all would just love it! Lol I think I got to that point somewhere around the new bill and Ted and the new space jam. I gave up after those lmao
I think we should be remastering/remaining trash movies, not classics. Not a very hot take but still.
I would honestly love to watch a video of Scott explaining advertising trends and the psychology of it throughout the different decades. Gotta use that advertising degree lol
"theyre treating jake from state farm like dr who" is possibly the funniest possible sentence i have heard recently
My friend worked on the Puppy Monkey Baby campaign. The picture with her holding it is hilarious.
this ad haunts me despite nobody else seemingly remembering it 😭
I can remember the ad but I can't remember what product it was advertising lol
@@julianlaresch6266 lol. It was mountain dew. But that was advertising at the time. Just make it avant garde for short term memory
I hated that ad but I still remember it so they did a good job I guess...but I have to take away points because I did not remember what it was advertising lol!
@@SuperNicktendo I thought it was an energy drink lol
Currently watching the super bowl and yeppp every commercial is “hey look at this celebrity! You know this celebrity right haha buy our product!”
DEEP in the T-Pain discography with Invisible Girl. Well done.
Nothing says "The Great Recession is over like 8,000 car commercials" is some biting political commentary. Great work, Scott!
I don't think I've seen the tide ads before. those are great
They were fun in the context of a commercial break. It had a similar feeling to getting Rick Rolled. Getting fooled by something so obvious so many times, you start laughing at yourself.
@@thehousecat93 I can't help but think if it had been anyone other than David Harbour, it just wouldn't have worked half as well.
and they have a nature that makes them leak into the brain as auto complete very memetic
I appreciate the tiny nod to Toby Kieth at 0:46
Thanks Scott.
For real RIP Toby was one of the best country stars ever
The Best Buy Ozzy Osborne + Justin Bieber "what the fuck is a Bieber" commercial is still one of the funniest things ive ever seen
My dad , the most normal small town guy ever, was chosen to be in the Winona commercial with Winona Ryder out of a bunch of random people from Winona MN. He went and filmed the whole thing and they chose to play the one without him in it. He was so bummed :( we told EVERYONE we knew he’d be in the Super Bowl!😂
I’m kinda sad he passed over the 80’s Super Bowl commercials cause I wanted to see him talk about the Michael J. Fox Pepsi ads that aired every year from 1986 to 1990 as those I feel are some of the best commercials the Super Bowl had to offer.
That 2000s Coca-Cola commercial is so special to me. Ended up watching it in the theaters. It did not get me to drink coke at all but the "give a little love and it all comes back to you" has become one of the biggest life lessons that I take with me everywhere.
much like SNL, super bowl commercials didn't "used to be good but suck now," they always sucked, and they were always good
this is such a true comment
That may be, but the thing he said about ads being ruined by being released before the game is undeniably true
@StuartGelin yep it takes away from their supposive punch
always has been
"You've always been the caretaker."
The interruption of "Nope, it's a Tide ad" at 15:25 genuinely caught me off guard and made me laugh out loud. 😂
I started watching you when you were first starting out, mostly because you would pull apart and critique adverts and that's what made me fall in love with this channel. Since then you are just killing it and I love all your videos but please I'm begging you do more vids on advertisements, it's a niche idea that I know I love and I'm sure others will love and it will let you put your degree to good use. If you're not feeling that, keep doing what you're doing, peace and love, can't wait for the next video xxx
Its been many years since i actually viewed a Super Bowl, but i remember the Clydesdale commercials always being top notch!
Oooooh the one with the puppy too! I revisited it a lot that year. So cute.
The costume changes when talking about each decade is 👌
Having the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny actually playing while he made the joke was perfect lol
Wholesome Toby Keith moment. RIP
For real RIP Toby was one of the greatest
genuinely before country became bro-country @@gabrielglover2649
literally, got chills after he sang that cuz you know this was 99% most likely filmed long before he passed …
Toby Keith died?!?!!
@@shannonceleste5557yes, stomach cancer on February 5th of this year
How come the raunchy 2000s ads were allowed but M.I.A. doing a split second middle finger at the Super Bowl got her sued and made her career run out of America lol
The lume joke was so outta place, I burst out laughing
I love when people take their personal niche interest and put hours into doing something no one else would imagine doing with it. The power of passion!
I love your take on too many celebrities, I feel like you can connect more with a commercial when it comes with random strangers that could easily be just like you, compared to having to look up to celebrity status quo.
I miss the Allstate Mayhem commercials! They do a few of them for College ball still but I still look them up to watch them yearly 😂
i am convinced that commentary youtubers get funnier when they have a kid. scott you’re on fire bro
i was having a terrible day until i found out Scott was a Vikings fan. thank you funny TH-cam guy
“Are you a middle schooler with scrambled eggs where your brain should be?” with the cut to (Charlie?) d’amelio took me OUT
At the end: Scott: "You could go watch this video, or this video, or this other video!"
Me: "I've seen them, Scott! I've seen them all! Multiple times! AAAAAH!"
Lol, no but for real, I've watched every vid you've got, haha! They're all great! You're one of my comfort youtubers.
Me “watches video about ads”
Also me “skips the only actual sponsored ad”
Budweiser also had a string of commercials in the 90’s where a bunch of bullfrogs were the “spokesmen”. Commercials were so charming back then
I remember it well. (I’m also old enough to remember Spuds MacKenzie from the 80s, so there’s that.)
I remember the biggest advertisement in the superbowl when I was growing up being the Wasssuuup? Ad. You would think it’s kind of stupid funny at first , but actually it’s good on different levels too. On the surface it’s just friends calling each other saying what’s up in a funny way. Subconsciously you realize they’re having a little inside joke with each other and they’re all getting their buzz on with bud light. It’s relatable and easy for most people to imitate. While other Super Bowl ads might be spoofs of other media, the wassup ad was spoofed in scary movie. Personally I like it better than Dilly Dilly too, that’s just my opinion.
Yes we all said it for what felt like forever 😂
in college I made money on the side by reviewing commercials and it was so weird watching all the superbowl ads knowing that I’d spent a good 15-20 minutes answering focus group questions on alllll of them
The only one I still remember specifically is the Bubly sparkling water ad that debuted Michael Bublé as spokesman. And I specifically praised them for the wordplay there, so if you can’t stand that campaign… sorry, that’s on me.
Was not ready for the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny reference
My favorite SuperBowl commercial ever is the simple 'Mean' Joe Greene Coca-Cola commercial
The best Super Bowl commercial was definitely the Oreo fight at the library. Science said so. 🤷🏽♀️✊🏽
19:50 wasn’t ready for THAT song but I’m so glad you included it! 👏🏾😂
All I know about American Sports is the stuff they mention in The Bear, so I appreciate this extra insight for us laymen 🎉
Exactly why Binky Dad was the best commercial of the past few years. Funny premise, repeatable phrase, and no celebrity cameos
Modern advertising may be about "Be as annoying as possible in order to be remembered better", but I can't think of a single person that would watch an ad and NOT go out of their way to avoid that brand if they can due to how annoying their ad was (or hypocritical whenever it's an ad trying to pretend the company is eco-friendly or morally superior in some way).
THE GOAT OF TH-cam BLESSING MY FRIDAY AFTER WORK END OF WEEK RELAXATION TIME! THANKS
I loved the commercial with Hey Arnold being thrown this year. 😂
Love the little Toby Keith reference in beginning. Overall a great video.
Well at least he didn’t mention puppy monkey baby…
I started binging the channel again for a few days and BOOM new video! Thanks Scott!
The note about the abundance of celebrity “cameos” is actually a great one to point out; I genuinely don’t notice the product when there’s someone I recognize talking, which was immediately validated by Aubrey Plaza showing up and my eyes going from her, to the product, back to her and forgetting the product. Hadn’t considered that being one of the reasons I don’t remember ads anymore.
I took a shot each time Scott changed clothes in this video and I'm now locked in the Indianapolis zoo driving my car with a penguin in my child's seat. Thanks Cramer!
Scott makes the type of videos I'd like to make if I were a TH-camr. And I'm glad that he makes them because I don't have the patience to be a TH-camr. Thanks dude. 👍🏾
Absolutely loved this video Scott!! This was a ton of fun
The 2018 Tide ads were hands down my favorite of all time. I was in college, soon to graduate, I’m a graphic design major, but obviously have an interest in marketing.
When I saw those ads, I could not help but fall in love. The fact that they had me questioning if every ad was a ride ad was brilliant. Because they didn’t just do brand association. That stunt made you think of Tide every single time you saw any other brand. Because you had no idea if it was a true commercial or just another Tide ad.
I went to class the next day, and my typography professor, who was a retired graphic designer that worked for an ad agency, spent the entire class talking about all of our favorite ads of the Super Bowl and I got him to give his take on the Tide ad campaign. Best class, and best Super Bowl, ever.
Man Scott great video as always!!
I just wish you mentioned the weird "sad" superbowl commercials that popped up from time to time because they legit felt out of place (Nationwide's Boy Commercial for example)
But either way it was a great deep dive into Superbowl ads!!
scott cramer makes videos on things that I didn't think about but am SO curious about
Commercials are reflective of society at the time. The best commercials are during economic booms and the worst are during recessions. We're in such a deep depression for the last 4 years that there is no hope left - and the commercials reflect this
And here I am in 2024 furiously tapping the "skip ad" button 5 seconds before the skip option is even available on some stupid mobile game Im never, ever going to play.
As always, banger video. Sad to see the one with Weird Al not make the Cramer cut…but, I’m a bit bias. This still made my day better. :)
The most memorable Super Bowl commercial I remember was the Jeep Gladiator commercial with legendary Groundhogs day Bill Murray 😂
Idk what was referenced more, Scott’s old videos or T-pain 😂
This video actually made me laugh out loud! Thanks, Scott!
Genuinely after you said they aren’t as good as they once were, I started singing Toby Keith and almost died when you sang with me
The return of the orange American eagle flannel. And I see you switched up the undershirt color with it. Well done, Scott.
Man, every time I watch Scott's video I feel like I'm flying halfway across the world to Fargo to listen about all the things uncle Scott learnt about in the last month. Awesome vid on a topic I never even thought about, as always xD

OH GOD I forgot that commercial! I LOVED that commercial as a kid
This season has been the most frustrating season for the Vikings. Please don’t get injured next year Minnesota!
This is truly a Scott Cramer moment
I just wanted to say I’m so proud of you how far you’ve come, I’ve been a subscriber ever since the video on Chevy’s horrible ad campaigning. Cant wait for 10M. Thank you for all the videos man ❤.
Great job Scott, terrific work.
Love the Toby Keith tribute ❤
I like the Doritos time machine! That was one of the best ones as well. “ It’s the future”😂
I did not expect a Josh Dobbs reference in this vid. I actually had to replay the moment multiple times if u actually said that. So funny 😂 love u Scott
the commercial that remains in my brain still is one from a few years ago where this family moves and their dog is accidentally left behind, this puppy goes on a great big journey to find them, and then once they are reunited, they PUT THE PUPPY UP FOR SALE ON AN APP-i remember being SO upset 😭
I remember looking up this Mastercard commercial trilogy from forever ago where a dog needs to find his way home and by the end of it the family is so excited to have him back - I didn’t know they remade it but worse.
Scott is so great.
17:55 No, I was thinking:
"Scott, please stop eating baby carrots with hummus cuz that's what I'm eating right now and you're freaking me out"
I thought it was a Cheeto
I’ve been on a binge watching all your videos because I haven’t been feeling good so it makes me very happy how many references I understand in this video now
Hello from Sioux Falls, awesome ur close by! I just found ur channel today. I’ve been binge watching you alllllllll day! Ur hilarious!!! Can’t wait till I see you hit that 1 million, you deserve it
Scott is a certified advertisement boy button
vv
Puppy Money Baby haunts my every dream since I was kid
I love that Scott's style is just buying things that he says he's gonna buy.
3:06 I was listening without watching while working on my laptop and I had to rewind because I couldn’t tell if you said monster or mobster. _Lobster_ would have been maaaybe my 10th guess? Old ads were WILD and I’m kinda sad I never got to see any of this stuff sooner. I didn’t have access to a TV until adulthood and by then, everything but the one or two standout Super Bowl ads were pretty shit. This was such a fun video!
This video has taught me something truly incredible - All the lame, unfunny shit my coworkers throughout the 2000s would reference all came from Super Bowl commercials apparently. Holy shit! I never knew!
HI SCOTT. I FOUND UR CHANNEL RECENTLY AND I LOVE IT
6:22 THIS IS ONE OF DA BEST ADS EVER 🔥🔥🔥
I’m not much of a football person, so I don’t really see the Super Bowl ads, but there was one that I caught a glimpse of that has stuck with me ever since: The Rocket Morgage Barbie Ad. Still lives in my head rent-free.
The tubi commercial last year tho
Love Scott's "pre-emptive" big holiday videos.
This video was more meta than I expected lol
Watching a video about Ads, with a sponsored ad, and Ads for his other videos
Wait do I like watching ads? 😂
I was skipping the ad read as I typically do in TH-cam videos, but then I saw your son and I had to rewind because he looks so big!
My wife and I had a daughter shortly after you guys, so I was super interested when I saw his curly little hair lol I just had to rewind and watch the entire ad read. I can’t believe you made me do it, but I did it.
And now I have to buy a helix… with our $80 budget. Thank you, scott
You know I don't mean to shit-talk your degree by saying this but ads have a very antagonistic relationship with viewers in most cases. At best, they seek to take away your money, time, and attention. At worst, they seek to make you feel less than, inadequate and want to emphasize the thing about yourself you most despise. They make use of psychological tactics to target your weak spots. They cover city views with monuments to consumerism.
I know it is a dramatic way to put things, but I think we all really need to put ads into context and maybe just maybe it can help alleviate the rampant consumerism plaguing us.
Rip Toby Keith, thanks for the tribute🕊️
Scott’s videos are just such a comfort
Always enjoy your content man
